52-Week for April

Hi here is the last hat for April. It is for Katie because she will not take it off! Katie is actually wearing the hat inside out because she did not like the ridge pattern. So, I took one flat and me wearing it (that was goofy to photograph while wearing it! Not flattering of my upper arms either!) So, 722 yards total. (Not including the two traveling scarves.)
And question for the masters of this site. My daughter is wearing an adult size hat now! I have told her since she was a baby with 90% head size that God gave her too many brains! But, how do I do hats to fit? Is the hat size measurement above the forehead around the back? And if I have to eventually make it bigger- how do I do this on a patterned hat? I want to make the Grace Lace Hat on Ravelry. Thanks, your sock mastery humbles this newbie knitter! (That is why my name on Ravelry is Knit-Frog-Knit!) I spend too much time in the frog pond! Alas, I am entering a sock war for fun and going to knit (re-try) a pair on socks for me. Wish me blessings on even starting the thing before being killed!

Pothos variation finished

I used 80gms of crockpot dyed Patonyle for this pair of socks. I think I knit them twice with all the frogging involved. My Easter houseguest loved them so I will surprise her for her birthday in June. She calls the ribbing below the leaf section "a cute little waist". I did the usual Anne Hanson heel flap and remainder of the sock.
I plan to finish the 2nd Green Goddess sock for May.

52-week for April

Here is my final hat for this month. (It is one more Phannie hat on Ravelry.) Here is the progress picture. Have a great weekend! This blog is sooo quiet! Is everyone working on the 50 socks book? Or just swimming in the frog pond this month?

Socks for April

I've been busy knitting my own designs for profit. I have a little time to knit socks for a birthday gift. Ravelry's Sock Knitter's Anonymous had lace socks as an option for March, to be finished by the end of April. Here's what I'm working on. The yarn is Fortissima Socka. The stitch pattern is from a German book.

Start of a hat

What a difference huh... the long DPN's compared to the shorter ones that I regularly use to knit with. These are really old - and once there was a point that I almost had thrown them away. I am glad I did not do that, as they really come in handy when knitting hats. And the set up for a hat is what you see on the other photo... using Mini Mochi 104.

52 Week Challenge - April

Wow - this month really got away from me - I don't know where the days went! I did cast on for a 52 week challenge project. It was a Mystery KAL from Rachel's Knitting Room which turned out to be a table runner. I'm using a 400 gm ball of Sugar n' Cream cotton and repeating the pattern until it is long enough for my dresser.

Round 3

Talias Wings.

I had my yarn and needles ready when the pattern was released at 10 am my time. Well a few choices of yarn just in case as we have no idea what the pattern will be.

I casted on. I was knitting away. Wondering as I was going why my yarn seemed to tangle so much. I have never had this problem. I finished the toes and thought I better look closer. I had casted on 2 socks on one needle using the same ball of yarn. I was using the inside and outside. I cut the outside yarn and picked up the other ball that was behaving.

I am done with them. I finish last night. This was an interesting knit. Fun pattern.

And now may I present my Sock Madness Round 3 socks......

52 Week Challenge - Brenda (Owlsrook)

I cast on this new lace scarf last night, using Knit Picks "Shadow" Lace weight yarn, which is 100% Merino Wool and very nice and soft. The Color is called "Jewels".

The pattern is "Lacy Green Scarf" designed by Ginger Smith. It is in the Love of Knitting Magazine, Spring 2009. Since the green lace yarn I have in stash is destined for another project, I decided to use the Jewels color instead, which I think should also set off the pattern well. It is a sampler stitch style of pattern, which uses different stitch patterns for each section of the scarf.

I am about to start the second section now. I am interested to see how it looks when finished and blocked.

52-week for April

Hi, on a hat and scarf frenzy. Three hats finished two Rook and one Phannie on Ravelry. I had tons of Noro around and thought I would use it. Yardage total is 470 yds for all three (rooks 218yds and Phannie 252yds.) I actually used more on each because both Katie and I have "too many brains!" She is eight and wearing my hats! I will definately make more of these but with better yarn. I will post an occasional traveling scarf pic from each group but have them all if you want to see them and give a basic guess-ta-met on a basic one. (Two scarves 5" wide and 50" long.) Totals will be in August.

52 Week Challenge - Brenda (Owlsrook)

Completed my Roundabout Socks - 344 yards in total - Arequipa Yarn - 2.25mm needles, Ladies size Medium.

Two projects completed now for April, both of which were socks, so now I am knitting a scarf in lace weight yarn, which I cast on tonight, will post in progress photo of it tomorrow.

A quick knit

At the moment I am feeling really miserable - pollen again :-( Sneezing and coughing like a madman... and the medication that I need to take is not working at all. YUK! Still... I did do a little knitting...created a quick dishcloth in a nice blue cotton. 109 yards went into this one.

52 Week Challenge - Brenda (Owlsrook)

Completed Moc Croc Socks - knit using Knit Pick's Imagination Yarn - color is "Munchkin", I did these two at once on one 32" Knit Pick's Circular Needle size 2.25mm. They took 330 yards of yarn for the pair.

Cast-on/progress photo was posted on April 6th.

This is the only project I've done so far for April, but I think I will cast on for a new lace scarf tomorrow.

52 Week Challange - Debbie (Grandma 07)

Here they are, my first finished colorwork socks, and my finished project for April. The pattern is from Sock Madness 3 on Ravelry and I used 2 colors of Panda Silk. The colorwork was intimidating to start, but once I got the hang of it, these were a lot of fun to knit. Oh, and I finished in time to move on to the next round :)

All done

Okay, I used 334 yards of patons classic wool to finish my first pair of socks for warm woolies. I finished them yesterday. They were a pleasure to knit up and pair number 2 are on the needles!

2 pair of socks started

The Green Goddess pattern by Nancy Whitman fascinates me the way it spirals and makes such an interesting design. Clearly written and a joy to knit. This is Patonyle cream yarn that I dyed in the crock pot with Wilton's teal frosting dye and a splash here and there of some bottled grocery store blue food coloring for a bit of variety since I have so much of this yarn dyed in the teal.
If you want her patterns or some of her yarns, you can contact her on ravelry while her website is broken.
I hope to finish this pair in April, as well as another pair in more of this yarn I've started at the same time, Pothos by Lorri Romesberg. I saw it when Debi posted it and joined the Six Sox KAL for the pattern. I really like the leaves in this pattern and the way they stand out in the reverse stockinette.

progress post

My April project is progressing nicely; I have already finished the first sock:

04.08.09 002

This is the Sampler Sock pattern from knotions.com.

Mini Mochi socks

There is a little story behind this pair of socks. I purchased the Mini Mochi as a birthday gift for myself. Two balls... and in The Netherlands the Mini Mochi was totally sold out. Ugh! Little Knits had them available, so I was happy.

My plan was though to make a set of wristwarmers for me. I did cast on the regular 48 st that I needed for my hand... but in the end it turned out too small. But I did like the little pattern that was in it and turned them into socks for Wietse. I was pleasantly surprised by the flow of colours though... but in the second sock it was interrupted (2 knots). The effect though is fun to see and Wietse loves his new and comfortably warm socks! 2/3 of one ball is used to create this pair.

52 Week Challange - Debbie (Grandma 07)

This is my cast on for April. The yarn is Panda Silk in a print and a solid. My first sock had to be ripped back to the ribbing because I knit it too tightly, but this one is doing much better. The pattern is from the Sock Madness group on Ravelry. Now if I can just finish before my division fills up!

Ok Starting an April project... BUT

I bought the yarn and the new needles. I INTEND on knitting two socks at once on one needle.

So far this is what I've accomplished...

Sock Madness 2

I present my Tokena Socks.

Not the prettiest picture but, taken at 3:30 am what can one expect. I finish these yesterday/this morning whatever one calls that time of day when you have not been to bed. The socks have to have a photo on an adult pair of feet for an entry that is the reason for the pose. First time doing Fair Isle. Not sure I want to try again in the near future.
I had forgotten I needed a progress picture. So here it is.

Wietse's sweater is ready

I started this one in March and posted a progress picture around the 13rd of March.

It came ready yesterday... Wietse's sweater. This time I found the needles a bit harder to deal with - a set of single pointed needles known as Takumi (US 6 / 4.25 mm)

I had 2.5 ball of Cascade 220 left, after using the rest a while back for the Groninger Blanket. Just enough so it seemed for a sweater in his size. (86-92 cm)

550 yards of Cascade 220 - enough to get an A for April! LOL!
He likes it... and it is looking so comfortable on him!

tesserae socks completed for April

I really enjoyed knitting this easy pattern and Fred has already asked for another pair based on wearing them while he was walking around the house collecting corgi hair on them. I tried to get most of it off for the photo, but you'd never know. :) This used an extra 5 grams of Cascade Heritage paints in another colorway for the toe. Size large calls for 450 yards and the skein had 437 listed so I believe at least 450 is correct if not more. I do recommend this pattern. It has enough interest while knitting, but easy to do watching a mystery. Typical of Anne Hanson's knitspot patterns, it is clearly written and logical.

Falling Leaves socks

I started this terrific pattern by Nancy Whitman a couple of days ago and have decided to frog it and use the yarn for her other pattern, Green Goddess. The yarn is Cascade Heritage paints and I think the leaves would show better in a more solid or tone on tone color yarn. I have lots of Patonyle and will use some of it to knit this pattern. I thought you might like to see it though and profit from my error in yarn choice. You can see the leaves close up in the pics, but not really on the leg due to the yarn. It looks like the darker picture.
I am very impressed with this designer's ability. Her clearly written patterns are right up there with my other favorites, Adrienne Fong and Anne Hanson.
The yarn is the same I used to finish the toe on the 2nd Tesserae sock. I did run out of the other colorway of Heritage for that pair and needed 5 extra gms to finish. When Fred gets back from town I will take a pic of him wearing the socks and post so you can see my April project.
