the object of the kal is to knit a pair of adult size socks (with minimum 3" cuff length) using the colors of tour de france. (it does not have to be Crystal Palace yarn! but we will have a special prize for socks in CPY yarn if enough people play.)
- yellow
- green
- red and white
- white
- or the national colors of your declared country
please leave a comment on this post if you want to play. remember to state the country you are rooting for (and it doesn't have to be your home country). edited to add that the country doesn't even have to have a rider in the race! (unfortunately, i still can't find a country with colors i like! sigh...)
on your mark! get set! RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!
edited to make this a tour de france SOCK kal (per laura's request).
ps. you cannot use the same project for tour de france and the 52 week kal. sorry.

Of course I want to play! I'll be rooting for America and will use red, white and blue.
LOVE IT!!!!!
I'm IN! USA as well (RWB)....but if I were better at intarsia having socks to go with the king of the mountain jersey would be fun :D. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loves to watch the Tour!
I'd like to play too. Rabobank (Dutch team) will be mine if it is okay with you
Yep, I am in. I have green yarn and am rooting for the USA.
Jody
It will be fun to see which socks are made. I'm already hopelessly addicted to socks at the moment and Fred will have another pair of Yankee Fox Mike socks which will make him very happy. :) I might have to knit a pair for myself, too.
I´m in, for sure.
Team Milram.
Diving into stash right now.
But there is still something to knit for participation in the anything goes KAL.
hi maz;
i don't follow tour de france. this is laura's baby...so is tem milram-germany?
thanks
I will play. I choose USA. Looking forward to seeing the socks.
Hi Adrienne,
Milram presumably is Germany. There are at least names in it that look German... found by googling for TdF teams.
I am inclined to prefer a team in which colours I would like to have socks :-). But I go with Germany. Black-red-gold then.
hi maz...
i was thinking of waiting to pick a country based on colors too.
wonder what the flag is for "lost in la-la land?!"
Oh,hell, let's have a meeting and DECIDE what our flag colors should be. I mean, we live there, and all. I think we should decide!
RAINBOW COLOR OF CHOICE (VARIGATED)PPPPLLLLLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEE. i HAVE LOTS OF STASH. THEN I CAN USE MY MOCHI FALL RAINBOW!!!!!
Jody
Oh Adrienne, the colors of la la land for you is pond green or frog green your choice.
I think I will be casting on a red, white and blue pair July 1st using Panda Soy for the July mystery KAL on Ravelry. These will probably count as my 52 week KAL project too, so I don't know if they can count for the Tour KAL as well or if I should just watch this one from the sidelines. ;-)
Whether it "counts" or not, I'll be rooting for USA and will enjoy seeing all the Tour Socks that are knit! I just love this KAL; such a fun bunch of knitters!! :-)
i'll check with laura to see if double dipping will be allowed.
no big deal, I don't mind sticking with just the 52 week KAL! Some more info just came out regarding the mystery KAL and my socks may have more colors than red, white and blue anyway! I'll still enjoy watching what everyone comes up with for the Tour Sock-along!! :-)
La la land colors are like peacock feathers. Trust me. I LIVE in la la land here with the peacocks who rule the place. :)
i like those la-la land colors! i can do those...
only kidding. don't want to get folks confooseded.
cathy; i am going to put your name on the sidebar; in the event that you find the time to knit an extra pair of socks.
Put my name there too. I am not sure if I can do two!
Jody
OK, I shall try - I will look in my stash tonight & pick something, then I'll see ir there is a country that goes with the colors. I hope that is OK
docM
I suppose we have to knit two socks - right? LOL
I'm knitting for the USA
Count me in! I'm rooting for Team Astana(Italy). I think Contador will win. I have a question. Italy's flag colors are red, white and green. Do I have to make a pair of socks with all the country's colors or can I just make a pair of red socks?
i want to play too. rooting for lance. color undecided. i only have one ball of new Psoy yellow.
so will have to see!
Would 'footies' count? I think they wear footies in the Tour De France (LOL)

Count me in Laura, I will dig through the yarn when I get home hope I have some yarn in flag colors. Hmmmm maybe I will have to buy some more.
jane should know not to ask me if we have to knit 2 socks for the kal. i have an idea how many i will probably end up with. :P
hi beth;
you need to join the blog for the kal. please email laura or me so we can send you an invite, ok?
OK, I sent an e-mail to join - I found yellow yarn last night - I picked a pattern this AM before we came to work & i'm ready to go tomorrow.
docM
I have yarn for this contest, red, white and blue for the USA and red black and yellow for Germany. Do I pick a team that has both colors? I am not sure if I can do two pairs for the 52-week and Tour de France. But, I have the yarn to hope!
Jody
I'll play too. Brazil-no particular reason except I like the flag design. Have some Panda Silk in Bamboo green color.
I'm in but I haven't chosen a team yet!
If it's not too late, I'd like to join in too :) I plan on knitting with green for the sprint.
never too late! will add you now! did you want to pick a country too?
Thanks :) Not sure that I'll have enough time to finish two pair this month...
