Holiday (or not) KAL

Holiday KAL 4
Finished my first pair of fancy lacy socks. I'm very proud of them!

I can't even tell you the kind of yarn I used, it was a hand painted skein from my local yarn shop, the pair took about 300 yards altogether, I have sort of long feet.

Last one for Holiday Kal

A simple pair of socks this time, knit in Trekking Maxima. These feel warm, and the yarn resisted to be worked into socks with a pattern. Now you can see the striping in the socks. I think they are cute.

These socks are going in the mail today to Marianne.
I used 330 meters to work this pair, on DPN's #1.5

WINNERS!!!

and the odds of winning were pretty good. we had a final total of 86 projects knit by 17 members! our generous sponsor, susan (of crystal palace yarns), has allowed us to draw not just 8, but 9 winners!

using the random number generator, i matched those numbers with your project numbers. the winners are:
  • peacockmom
  • debi the "clog queen" =)
  • jill
  • angie k
  • gablesdeb
  • nolaboard
  • waistcoateer
  • denver nash
  • yoyosocksister
there were 9 projects which qualified for the special drawing for projects made with crystal palace yarns. each project counted as one entry. and just for fun, i left my 3 projects in the mix. i used the old fashioned "name on a piece of paper, draw name from hat" method for this. my son helped me draw....
  • adrienne
  • adrienne
  • adrienne
what are the odds?! if only i could do that with the lottery! LOL! so, drawing one more name - the final winner for the CPY project drawing is:
  • cathy (n3tue)
ladies and gentleman, you have each won 2 skeins of crystal palace yarn of your choice of yarns and colors. please email me at:

carefreekal at gmail dot com

with your mailing address and TWO yarn choices with TWO color choices. i will send these on to susan after i hear from everyone.

A BIG THANK YOU TO SUSAN FOR ALWAYS BEING SO SUPPORTIVE OF OUR KALS!

ps. the rule is i get to keep the yarn if you don't send me all the information.

we all wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season! feel free to keep posting projects through the end of the year. i will be back soon with the details for a new 2010 year long kal.

rules for the holiday (or not) kal

just a reminder that you do need to post a progress picture of your project to the blog sometime during your knit for your project to count.

if you are using a ufo which is 50% or less completed, you will need to post a picture of the ufo in its current state of "unfinishness" for your project to count.

the complete short list of rules is over on the side bar.

Holiday KAL project & 52 week KAL progress

Well, I managed to finish ONE project for the Holiday KAL! But, knowing that the deadline was approaching did give me the motivation to finish so I'm glad I participated.

It's folded in half to fit in the picture:
Project: Prayer Shawl
Cast on: 10/3/09
Finished: 11/29/09
Yarn: Lion Brand Homespun - Wild Fire (about 2 and a half skeins)
Needles: US 11

I am making progress on the fair isle vest that I've been knitting off and on since July:

This may be my December 52 week KAL project if I don't also manage to finish the Miss Marple socks I am knitting. I'm really hoping to finish both!!

Progress on socks

These are my own pattern, for a birthday in late October. I've been playing with gusset decreases. I like them better now than I did when sock #1 was finished. Yarn is Bernat Sox. Sock #2 is restarted. I forgot to twist the knits in the rib.

There is progress on the black socks. The birthday was in July, but I gave an IOU. Time to get them finished, but after the blue ones. Again they are my own pattern. The intended foot is wide.

Gift socks and other things

This pair is for my grandson. His birthday was in July. They're a little late. I have designed them, but the pattern doesn't show up well. He has wide feet, and yes he's an adult.

I'm working on another pair for a late October birthday. This granddaughter asked for blue.Again, its my own design.

Holiday Kal: Calophi's First Project

Sadly my Fox Faces socks are more than 50% complete so they can't be used for this KAL. So I have here for you the beginnings of the socks I am making for my brother - the Ladder of Life Toe-Up Socks.

I am making the toes, heels, and cuffs the solid green, and then the rest of the socks will be the variegated. Though I MIGHT switch it before I start working on these socks again because I got a fantastic idea for the multi. I might need to buy more multi for it. XD

The yarn is Knit Picks Essential Solids in Grasshopper, and Knit Picks Essential Multi in Turtle.

Holiday KAL - Knit List

I guess my hope to knit list for the Holiday KAL would be:

One Hat, One Scarf, One Bag, One pair of fingerless mitts, One pair of regular Mitts.

So now I have to go stash diving for inspiration.

Clogs are us....

Here are 13 of the 20 pairs I made in 2 weeks. Yes I did get a few felted. All are Fiber Trends pattern.
First time every making the child size clogs. I am looking forward to seeing them felt up. They are the light pink ones in the middle.
Otherwise these are Christmas gifts. I can not even post about them on my own blog.
Just as I was working on the 19th pair my daughter told me her clogs had worn a hole in them. Guess I am not done clogging yet.

As we know there has to be a start picture.....this one above was started Oct 2, well finished Oct 2 also. Below, I used leftovers from the other clogs to make the inside sole on this pair. These are the bright pink pair in the photo above.

My plan for the Holiday KAL

OK, Adrienne asked for our lists, so here's mine:

:-)

1. a Prayer Shawl for my friend who has been having a rough time lately. I chose this yarn in a color I think she'll like, and I think she'll appreciate that I knit this for her:
10.02.09 002
That is my number 1 goal for this KAL because I'm not always good at sticking with large projects and this should give me motivation to finish it!

2. I'd like to knit a pair of socks for my Dad for Christmas. I haven't decided on yarn or a pattern yet, but something in worsted weight most likely because that's what he prefers. He sleeps in them.

3. I want to attempt the Solid Socks mystery sock pattern using my red Panda Cotton. This looks like a very challenging pattern already and we're just on the first clue!! But I'm posting it here, again, to motivate myself to try it:
10.02.09 003

I'm also doing another mystery sock that I plan on being my November finished project. I'll post on that later!

Knit on, everyone!

So, do you have a list?

debi thought it would be fun to post a list of your objectives and then to see how many you actually finish by the end of the kal.

i don't have a list myself. i figure that if i finish anything at all, that will be gift enough for me! :)

so, who wants to start?

i should tell you that debi has been on a clog kick and has knit like 300 million pairs of clogs in the past two weeks (actually i think she said 18 pairs). so if any of you are thinking of gifting clogs, you might just be able to sneak that onto her list ... she probably won't notice that extra 20 pairs.

carefree holiday (or not) kal

will officially start monday, october 5th.

we are still deciding the rules but they will be fairly relaxed and easy.

you will get to knit whatever your heart desires; whether it be for a gift OR NOT! so knitting for yourself will count too. we might even allow ufos! see how easy?

i will be thinning out the ranks of our members after the mystery sock kal is finished. if you haven't posted finished mystery socks, i will be removing you from the blog unless you leave a comment on this post or email me at carefreekal at gmail dot com that you want to participate in the holiday kal. i have started a list over on the sidebar.

don't worry if you are a longtime member of the blog and didn't participate in the mystery. you are safe. i know who you are.

eta: rules are now posted in the sidebar. kal will start on october 5th and end december 5th! have fun!

mystery sock kal

...is over! i'm awake and have had my cuppa coffee.

and the sock "formerly known as it's a mystery sock kal" has a name! like the child empress of fantasia in neverending story, my sock lived for weeks without a name...and at the last possible moment, its name was whispered in my ear....

"moonchild"
aka the sock "formerly known as it's a mystery sock kal"

(i've always wondered what name bastian gave the child empress...and now i know! ya gotta love google.)

thank you all for playing. i love all your creations! and i hope you had fun! for those still working on your socks, please post them to the blog when you finish as i would love to see them!

winners will be announced within the week.

get ready for the carefree holiday (or not!) kal! if you are not a member of the blog and wish to participate, please email me at carefreekal at gmail dot com for an invitation to the blog. i will be making room for new members in the next few days.

Second Market Bag

Here is my daughter's second market bag.

I actually just finished it this evening, so it won't count towards yardage. I did post a beginning photo, and someone (I don't remember who!!) said that they would like to see a completed picture. Both market bags were designed by Cathy Phillips of CAP's Crochet, and I love the way they turned out--if I say so myself!!

Market Bag Completed!!

I finished my daughter's Lacy V Market Bag last evening. I was racing against the sun because I wanted to take a picture outside. Well, the sun won and today it is raining. So, we have what we have. I love this bag. And my older daughter stopped by last night and saw this--guess what?? She wants one, too!! Maybe for her birthday in January!! I have to get Christmas finished first!!

This crocheted in Peaches 'n Creme natural undyed 100% cotton using a size F crochet hook. I used almost an entire cone of yarn, so we'll round it out to 600 yards.

I do love this bag, and again--something I may just have to make for myself!!
