UFO 2

... is the Wolhemelblanket that I was working on for Wietse's bed. I have already made 7 of the 12 blocks, and am currently working on the 8th block. Photos are showing: On the table the seven blocks that are ready, and the other photo is the block that is currently in progress.

Yankee Fox Mike socks

I've started Anne Hanson's "Gridiron" pattern with Socka 1776 yarn for my husband to wear when he enters our plane in an international air show in Melbourne this coming March. Our call sign in Yankee Fox Mike and the plane is white with a blue belly, white top and red trim and letters.
This pattern is a fast knit and interesting enough to avoid boredom, but easy enough to knit during a good mystery program.
Meanwhile, I am almost finished with the first Sweetie Pie sock (another fast knit) and have about 3 of Adrienne's socks on other needles. Do you think I have a bad case of second sock syndrome? LOL And I bought 2 more patterns this afternoon and can hardly wait to begin those. At the rate I'm going, I can wait for the next year's UFO KAL and be ready and organized. :)

January Progress

Here's my progress on my Sweetie Pie socks, I've got one done and I started the other one last night. I'm really loving how this yarn looks in the pattern, yay!

52 Week Challenge

This is my project for January, after turning these two 50" x 5" strips into ......................

giant slippers. I used a little more than half of three skeins of 220 yard Paton's so I'm estimating 360 yards for these.

Here they are drying after felting down to a size 6 1/2.

And here they are keeping my feet warm on a frigid Maine day!

Have to tease you...

The photo is taken this evening, by lamplight... The leg pattern of Marrakech is worked in, and I am currently working on the heel flap. In the heel flap pattern, there is a little error... But the sock is starting to look so nice!

New project

I'm knitting more birthday socks. The Ravelry SKA group has a January option of socks from an online magazine. That fit my need for grandson socks, so I'm doing Widdershins from Knitty Summer 2006. I made a number of changes to fit the target foot, but one is finished.

update for blanket

I made an update picture of the sock yarn blanket. This time you see the wrong side... and it measures 54 cm at the moment. (500 stitches still on the needle) Still... I have to get to a whopping two meters... so there is plenty to do. But I passed the 1/4 limit, as the measured start on Jan 1st was 38 cm. It does not go fast, but it is growing!

scarf and mitts finished 52 week KAL new projects

I made Laura Chau's "just enough ruffles scarf" and matching mitts ("Wristlets from knit 1 winter 2007) and used almost all of the 200 gms of Aussie Heirloom Merino Magic I dyed using Wilton's violet frosting dye in my crock pot. I had 28 gms left and my husband did the calculations for me: I used a total of 387 yards. This was a fun scarf and the second one I've made. I used some alpaca I dyed for the first scarf for a Christmas gift and will add a pic of my husband modeling it for me to give you a new year's laugh. I started the scarf on New Year's Day thinking the KAL began then. I understand if this scarf/mitt project doesn't count if I started too soon. I finished it Jan 8th and didn't block the scarf since it had to be mailed on the 9th to the States.

Another UFO

I'm plugging along on the last UFO I'm likely to finish in the next few months. On January 1, it was 80% complete. I'd used 8 out of the 10 balls of yarn the pattern called for. I reknit the front band. It's not so short now.

In the last week, I've shortened the first sleeve, so I can use my hands when wearing the sweater. The pattern is Autumn Leaves Cardigan by Nancie Wiseman. It calls for Noro yarn and I'm using Silk Garden. I waited a long time before it fit into my budget. I have now finished the first sleeve and sewn it in. I have 2 of the 4 buttons made from the "contrast" color yarn.

First UFO finished!

I completed the scarf UFO that had been hibernating in a box since April. I don't know why I didn't knit it sooner because it was so much fun to knit!

52 Week Challenge, Month One

This is my January project, another pair of Sweetie Pie socks, this pair will be for me also! I'm wearing the first pair I made right now and they're uber comfy so I have to have more. I'm using Panda Cotton in the dotty Lollipops colorway, very girly and fun.

Don't worry Adrienne... I am going to make the 350 yards with this project. Two balls of Trekking Pro Natura, one in white, and one in grey variegated. The pattern's name is Marrakech. I started it on the 7th.

The pattern is my own and was originally published on the Sockathon Yahoo Group in November. It's now also available as a free Ravelry download. The yarn is Panda Cotton and I used US size 1.5 needles for these lovelies. I'm so glad they're finally done, they're so comfy!

Socks ready

Yesterday I finished the pair of socks I was working on since New Year's Day. These New Year's Day Socks are made for Alexa, in Panda Cotton 0413. She actually bought the yarn for a pair of wristwarmers... LOL! Size is 9" and I worked away 340 yards of yarn.

Sock yarn blanket...

small update: Since Jan 1st I have worked 448 meter sock yarn into the blanket. That equals a whopping 3 inch/ 7.5 cm. The photo is a bit dark, but it is still early in the morning, and grey... I guess a better picture will follow soon.

Show and tell.

So far this year, I've been making serviceable, practical items. I've made a set of three textured dishcloths and a pair of mittens for my oldest daughter. The low tonight is below zero, so these over her gloves should help keep her fingers warm on the walk to school tomorrow!

Spring Forward = Done

Yay, I finished my first UFO today!





These are my Spring Forward socks that I started way back in July of last year. Funny how thing don't get done when you don't work on them! I used 2 skeins of Crystal Palace's Panda Cotton and US size 1.5 needles. Here's the link to my original post.

Cathy's 1st 52 week challenge project

I decided to use my Panda Cotton beaded mystery socks as my first 52 week challenge project. I started this project on 1/1/09 when the first clue was posted. I have completed clue 1 for both socks and am awaiting clue 2 which should be posted this week, I am assuming on Thursday. This pattern is part of the SKA Sockdown challenge on Ravelry.

I want to complete these by the end of January so this is my challenge to myself!

Since I'm using this for the 52 week KAL, should I withdraw it from the UFO KAL? I don't want to complicate things! :-) I really am going to try and finish some of those UFO's I posted!!!

Another One Bites the Dust

Another project finished! Status Jan. 1 one mitt finished and one mitt about 1/3 knit.

The pattern is Stulpen by Petra. The pattern was written in German, but the English translation is lower on the page. The yarn is Regia 6 ply from my stash. I knit 2 pairs of these with my nieces in mind, but we didn't see them for the holiday, so they go in the gift basket for the future.

UFO's

I need to make photo's of the UFO's that I have. Carried over to 2009 are:
1. Sweater for DS 2. Am almost done with the back, so still to do is front, sleeves and finishing.
2. Sweater for me. Just halfway the back...
3. Shawl. It is a simple one, done in kid mohair. Need to work away 3 1/2 skeins.

4. Wolhemelblanket for Wietse. I need to make 5 blocks, sew and work a border around it.
5. Sock yarn blanket. I have 38 centimeters in height and have to make it 2.20 meter in height. Width is almost 2 meters, so every 100 meters yarn worked away in garter stitch is 3 cm in height.
6. Sweater for Wietse: One on circular needles. Had to think how to work the top part, and approximately 20% of the sweater is done now.

My focus to finish before Wietse's birthday are: (Wietse's Birthday is March 20)
6: Sweater
5: Sock yarn blanket
4: Wolhemelblanket

Big projects... but I have calculated that it is going to be managable to finish the sock yarn blanket when I work on it on a daily basis. Photos will follow asap.

UFO KAL - Cathy

OK, here are my UFO's. Not sure if I'll finish any of them, but I'm putting it out there to motivate me!

This first one should be easy enough to finish:
UFO: various cat toys for friends who have cats (some knit; some crochet)
yarn: various cottons, probably sugar 'n cream
95% complete - I just need to assemble them!
how old: these have been sitting around for months; they should have been Christmas gifts!

Next:
UFO: Tofutsies socks - using a pattern in Sensational Knitted Socks

about 60% complete now; I'm a little further along than this picture
I just need to finish the 2nd sock!
how old: I started these 9/08 but keep getting distracted with other projects

I notice a pattern here... none of my UFO's are knit with CPY yarn; I think that's because when I'm knitting with CPY, I actually finish the project!! :-)

I did start a project with Panda Cotton on 1/1/09 that I am really enjoying which is making me think that these UFO's will continue to linger. I'm not sure if this will count for the UFO KAL, but I'll post anyway, and you can let me know:

New Year's Day Socks

Yesterday I was watching the New Year's Concert on tv, which is annualy coming from the Goldene Saal in Vienna. I was surprised by the beauty of the flowers, in orange and red. That reminded me of the fact that Alexa had bought two skeins of Panda Cotton, in which orange, green and red are the main colours. I started a pair... and this morning I turned the heel. It is looking nice thus far. Update on UFO kal will follow.

First FO of the year

I started these December 16. At year end, they were still missing one foot. They are for my DDIL with a January birthday. The pattern is my own and is for sale on Ravelry. It took two tries to get a pair of socks I could gift, because I ran out of yarn on the first ones , twice!

The cuff is knit sideways and the leg picked up and worked down from the cuff, with ribbing and then slip stitch colorwork. One name for the technique is Mosaic, using one color at a time and slipping the other. Each color is used for two rounds. The yarn is mainly Aussi Sock. The black is Kroy 4 ply. All yarn is form my stash.

See, I did finish both socks, and they're really the same size.

I have a few

I have a few UFO's. At the top a baby blanket that is one skein (I hope) from being done. They do not sell this color any more in my area. This has been a UFO for a few years. I finally found the color on line and ordered it so it can be finished. Now I hope I can remember what size needles I was using.

To it's right is a pair of socks I test knitted that the designer never finished the design. So I will finished these off. I started these early last spring. 35% done

To continue clockwise a Burgundy bag. This is a shopping bag. This I started in Nov. So it has not been on the needles that long. Less than 10% done.

Next blue socks that I am currently test knitting. These need to be done soon. About 5% done.

Then the 7th pair of socks for Ken, my DH. He is so in love with these. I found the yarn but many skeins in the same color so I am adding stripes or doing something different so they can be paired up. 50% complete.

In the middle is a pair of socks by some designer named "Adrienne Frog". I started these before the last KAL and never got back to them. 40 % complete.

So these are the ones I found that were close by. May have to dig to find more. But, then again I don't have a lot of UFO's.

(75% done - Hedera)
Starting with the oldest one, we have Hedera, started in August of 2007. I'm just past the gusset decreases on the second sock. The yarn is Maizy in the Hot Feet colorway and I really hope I can get these babies done!:

Next, we have a pair of Spring Forward Socks that I started July 10, 2008. I have one sock done and I'm just starting the heel flap on the second one. The yarn is Panda Cotton in Fuchsia:

The last sock UFO (I hope more aren't hiding somewhere...) is the second Sweetie Pie sock in the pair knit with some red Panda Cotton. I have no clue when I started these but I'm almost done with the second one, I think it only needs one or two afternoons worth of knitting:

Now onto the bigger projects (insert sinister music here). My poor little Tree Jacket that I started in September. I was cranking along pretty well on it for a while but then there was a family tragedy and it got put aside. It's knit with Berroco Comfort. I have the body and most of one sleeve done:

I started my Prarie Tunic back in March of 2008 with some brown Karabella Vintage Cotton. I was doing pretty well for a while, but winter lasted until about late may last year (is it really supposed to snow in May?) in Minnesota so I didn't have the motivation to get it done. Also, it's a top that's knit on size 3s. Sigh:

And finally, my only crochet UFO, my Larger Than Life Bag. I started this in November of 2007 and don't even remember the last time I worked on it. But it would be such a cute bag for spring, I must finish it! It's made with a bunch of different colors of Sugar N Cream.

52 Week Challenge

Progress on Norwegian slippers - somehow this will turn into a slipper!

I cast on for my first month's project in 2009 - felted Norwegian house slippers . I'm making them from stash yarn (Patons Classic Wool) and the pattern doesn't give the yardage, but judging from other similar patterns for felted slippers like these I think they will meet the 350 yardage requirement. They will be huge before felting!
