Prime Time - April

For Mother's Day I cast on Spring Socks from the Six Sox Knitalong. These were delivered this week to my mother-in-law in Boise while my husband was visiting.

The yarn is CPY Panda Wool in the color Periwinkle. In real life it is much more purple - a pretty twist of purple and light gray.

Socks for own dear mom, a pair from Cookie A, remain unfinished. Mom was on her final day of a lovely trip to San Francisco with my brother and nephew when she suffered a head injury from a fall in her hotel room and passed away the following day with my father and sister at her side. I was able to bury myself in the frenzy of Sock Madness while waiting to hear news and then as I began to figure out how to deal with my grief. These are the SM Round 3 socks finished on my first birthday without my beautiful mom.

Hi everyone. Here are my April items. I made a Coquille shawl. It is made from Crystal Palaces new Sausalito yarn in Monet. The color is truer in the right side picture.

The other items are three potholders and one lipbalm holder for a swap I am in. They are in cotton thread. Where did the month go? I am going to make another shawl for next month in Mochi!

April Prime Time Project

Well, I managed to find a source for the Panda Cotton, even to the correct lot number. Thank you, Yarn Market. Once it arrived, the UFO March project got removed from the scanner and completed. This used up about half the third ball was used. If there is a pattern for a small hat, I may try one.
Since there was an order, of course it makes sense to go for free shipping, right? So now there are three balls of a variegated green to make a matching sweater for her sister. That will be May's project. And of course to make up the rest of the order, there is enough Panda Cotton in more traditionally masculine colors to make the husband more socks, to make up for not having this as socks. He was just as happy not to have these as socks. This is his gorilla, by the way. Tried to get him to hold the gorilla for pictures, but no luck.
Just got notice that his company is going out of business at the end of June. Son failed bar exam for the second time. Husband just lost his third tooth, roots and all - and COBRA dental just runs for about another year. But we haven't been flooded, nor has a tornado hit us, and the flowers are starting to bloom, so life is pretty good, all in all. Hope everyone else is doing at least as well, and preferably better.

Prime Time - March

Sock Madness 5 hit hard and I've been knitting myself silly. Round 1 - Supporter's Socks in Regia Trend & Color. 344 yards

Round 2 - Nornir in KnitFit Calypso. 336 yards

And my CPY package deal: I made a second pair of mitts using Adrienne's Jasmine Lace Fingerless Mitts pattern, this time in Sausalito. For me, these knit up tighter than with Mini Mochi so I added about 8 rows to the pattern ending just before the cable and closing up the YOs with ktbls.

For additional yardage I knit two washcloths out of CPY Cotton Chenille.

182 yards for the mitts, 122 yards in chenille = 304 yards. I knit the diagonal cloth until I'd used up 1/2 the needed yardage then began the decreases! That's cutting it close.

March PrimeTime

Hi All! I finished several projects in March and wanted to share these:
First up - my Missouri, Waterfall Lace Socks in CPY Merino 5 Ultra Blues. I made them long enough to use up all but 15 yards of 3 balls - so about 315 yards. They are so comfy.

Second - I finished a pair of Tadpole socks for my sister in Chicago who is recovering from hip surgery. Worked these in Fleece Artist Nyoni - about 320 yards.

Third - a pair of Straight Up Socks for myself in Knitters Brewing Company Sockaholic Sweet. I love toe up socks because I can then use up all of the yarn - about 390 yards

Fourth - a gaiter for my brother in law in Patons Classic Wool and Manos Maxima - 163 yards

Fifth - I most excited to have finished Tea Leaves Cardigan by Melissa LeBarre, using up over 1200 yards of KP Elegance from stash.

Of course, I then rewarded myself with a non-sanctioned yarn purchase from Jimmy Beans for the Coquille Shawl. ;-)

March project

So here is my project for March - my first complete pair of adult socks, yaaay I've broken the curse! I've done two socks in the past, but both are singles. I recall giving away the yarn for sock #2 of one pair, so it will never be complete, but the other still has hope (although I have long since forgotten what pattern I used..).

This is Laura's pattern (a free one from the CPY website) called "Silk Road Journeys". Took two balls of Mini Mochi with a bit from both balls left over. I don't have a scale, but I would think that I've made the 300yd quota given how little remains.

All in all this pattern was a lot of fun to do. My ruffle is larger than the original as I didn't have the right size needles - but I like it. Some of the stitch counts were a bit off, and I also did a grafted toe and made the cuff a bit longer, but otherwise it's as the pattern was written.

One disappointing thing to note: both balls were knit from centre out, but they are reversed in colour order which of course I didn't realize until the end, and there's no way I'm frogging and reknitting! so, they're a unique pair of socks - so be it.

On to the next pair!

March primetime

Hi, I have a pile of things for March. Next month I am going to be able to handle fingering yarns. I have two prayer squares, one dishcloth, a Tuesday Evening cowl (nutmeg tones,) and a Reckless cowl (purple.)
I used Encore for the navy square, and Lion Brand for the Earth and sky for the brown and blue square. The dishcloth is Peaches and Creme. The Tuesday Evening cowl is Panda Silk DK doubled. My favorite is totally the Tuesday cowl. I used the whole skeins making it taller. And, finally the reckless cowl. It was TOTALLY RECKLESS. The numbers were off on the pattern and the swirls do not line up. It was also super small because it barely goes over my head. It fits my DD well so she may snake it. I was super disappointed. I may just rip it out and make something else. I am going to try to block it again and see if I can live with it. The yardage was way off also. Nathan just lost both front teeth and had to be in the picture!
I am so glad to be onto different projects! I am going to do the Coquille cowl on the CPY group on Ravelry and the 50 socks New Wheat sock on the 50 socks 50 states group.

I can't wait to do the shawl on the CPY group on Ravelry. It has been a long time with no fingering yarn on my needles.

Mochi Magic

Can you believe that this pile of Mini Mochi up above can become this....shawl?

This was a test knit. Pattern is not released yet. It will be a few days before I am ready to do cables again.

February PrimeTime Entry

I still haven't figured out how to get the pictures lined up, but can't mess with it anymore before I go to bed. I did several projects for February, but I'm really happy with these two shown. The first one is a pair of Gentleman's Socks (Kristi Schueler) in Mini Mochi Feldspar. The hat is the Hatticus pattern and done in Chunky Mochi in Neptune. Both were fun patterns and I'm happy with the results. I used 350 yards for the socks and about 76 yards for the hat. Bring on March!
