Prime Time August Project

Hey All!
I made another Coquille Shawl for my sister Cathy during August - along with a few pairs of socks. Gah - I'm already behind on my 52 pair plunge by 2 pairs! I purchased some lovely MM in Red Zone at a cool LYS in Long Grove, IL on vacation and used about 486 yards making the small size. This time I hard blocked it by giving it a good soak and I love how it turned out. Magpie is modeling:

Looking forward to fall getting here and September. Fall to me means College Football Season, which is my favorite sport.

August PrimeTime - More Socks!

What else is there but socks??

This month I left my comfort zone only a bit and a knit toe-up pattern, Diamonds and Cables by Wendy Johnson. That little cable up the middle was a real stinker so I was quite happy when my daughter requested short socks.

Knit in the Provence colorway in CPY Panda Soy but a tad short on yardage. I'll be back soon with a small project to fill out the month.

ETA: I left to cast on a pair of baby booties with the remainders, BUT since I'm only short by about 20 yds, I'm posting this August project to fill out this month.

I bought the Panda Soy above for a baby layette but fell in love with this Hobby Horse pattern when I found it. It's just a big 72 st sock knit with worsted weight and felted a bit. Finish work took much longer than the knitting. (Yes, you do see 3 1/2 yds of I-cord. UGH)

I had two projects for this month -- each with a skein of Mini Mochi.

Tender Heart

This was from the pattern Tender Heart by desiger Annie Lee. I used 1 skein (195 yards) in Tropical Ginger on size 7 CPY needles.

I used 1 skein (195 yds) of mini mochi in Jungle on size 7 CPY circular needles. I only soft blocked -- because I like the way the "collar" rolls and the lace is soft. Mostly, though, I like the color. Rav site: Annisette

2011 PrimeTime August

Ta-dah! These are my socks for August. I really like the pattern and will more than likely make it again, but this time for me.

The pattern and the yarn combined are very stretchy but came out nicely.

The yarn is Panda Cotton, color "Trail Mix".

The pattern is "Muir Woods (California)" from "50 Socks, 50 States".

Needles: size 2's.

These will be a nice Christmas present for my sister and she will absolutely love the colors.

Fair time

Finished my August prime time shawl. In the Storm clouds. It's soaking right now. Then I will block it along with some other things for the county fair which starts this Saturday. The pattern is In the Pink. Used less than 4 balls of Mini Mochi, color storm clouds. About 694 yds.

July Prime Time

I finished several pairs of socks in July, but this was by far my favorite. The pattern is Cowasocky by Leslie Comstock and is due out soon. The design is done in intarsia in the round, knit around then purled back. I don't think I've ever had this much fun knitting a pair of socks before. I'm not much of a toe-socks fan - but my daughter nabbed these quickly!
Knit in about 350 yards of Panda Silk in Jet Black and Natural - the pink udders (or sock toes) were dyed bits of the natural. I actually ran short of the dyed yarn on the last of the toes and had to make more pink. Luckily I had saved the mixture, but messed up the dyeing. The first pink was too light, the second was too dark, but the third pink was JUST RIGHT (well, close enough!)

July Prime Time!

I can't believe we are in August! Does anyone else feel behind on Christmas knitting yet?

I got a few pairs of socks made this month - but I'm most excited to have finished my Maiden Shawl in 5 balls of Panda Silk in Strawberry Cream. I love the blocking process. This went from dresser scarf size to a nice sized shawl.

Shizuku

This was fun to knit and I learned a new technique: knitting drops! It's done with 3 skeins of CP Moochi Plus in #568 Blueberry Pancake.

Isla Vista Shawlette

Isla Vista Shawl-ette : 2 skeins Mini Mochi Spice Market ---on size 6 needles.

I made up the pattern. Reminds me of little waves surounding an island of garter stitches. 78" by 9"---shallow triangle shape.(It grew a bit after blocking!)

i LOVED working with this yarn. The colors are phenomenal. They appear to be different in different light. Don't know how that is possible....but it is.

Purple Rain Scarf

Almost didn't make it in time for June...I actually thought today was the first, and was all ready to post this as July, even though I finished last night!!

Just a little short of the 300 yards.....so I made a

headband. Both are made out of Taos # 19....on size 10 needles. I wanted to make a matching raindrop hat...but did not have enough.

Pattern is:

Shizuku 雫 for scarf &

Easy Cabled Headband....for the headband ( with liberties taken on both!)

NOTE: THIS THING STRETCHES WHEN BLOCKED...what started out as a 62" shawlette became an 84" scarf. My daughter Sarah will love it, though.

My Mods: Made it a boat shaped shawlette -- Increased for 17 drops ( 8 rows per pattern)…stayed the same for 28 drops, then decreased for 17 drops. Pattern as written is triangular. I ended up with 62 raindrops.

Purple Rain ended up weighing 110gr -- 282 yds ( About 2.2 skeins) and headband added another 32 -- total of 314

**I did so want to make a hat with the left over yarn...just so I could call it Purple Rainhat! ......*I might have enough for a baby hat with little raindrop tassles, though....hmmmmm.... will post as an addendum if I do!!

This color of this wonderfully soft yarn reminds me of boysenberry pie. Yummy. Really yummy.

June Finished Project

My June project is another pair of socks. These are knit with Panda Soy in Lemon Cream colorway. The pattern is a Crystal Palace free pattern called Creme Hearts. I modified it by leaving off the diamond motif which is below the hearts on the original pattern.

Early for June

My rav project page Artichoke pattern, in Panda Silk (about 1.4 skeins = 285.6 yards). Beads from Joanns. I started on May 27, 2011, finished on June 24, 2011.

These booties will be part of a set but they were enough to give me enough finished yardage for June. Used 10g of yarn (54 yds). Rav page for set . The pattern was written for straights. I changed it a bit so I could do it in the round = no seams, yeah. Much quicker that way. Started and finished today.

Prime time part 2

A pair of socks in Mini Mochi. Started with Judy Becker's cast on, created my own style heel up to the cuff.Russian bind off was used for a flexible cuff. Wietse's feet size - he loves them! I did not know though that my camera had such a cute features for images!

Een paar sokken in Mini Mochi. Ben begonnen bij de teen, en heb daar de opzet van Judy Becker voor gebruikt. Ik heb mijn eigen variant hiel gebruikt en na het breien van het boord de Russische afkantmethode gebruikt. Het is Wietse's maat, en hij vindt ze prachtig. Ik wist alleen niet dat mijn camera zulke leuke foto's kon maken.

Together with the first pair I made - for your convenience I pasted the images below..., I have used two balls of Mini Mochi in total.

June Projects

And a friend of mine had some good news and so I decided to make a baby kimono:

This yarn is so soft and nice to work and it is perfect for making baby stuff. Here is the completed set of kimono and hat:

It took all three skeins to make the set. And to round it out I also made some more dishcloths in the moss roses color of this yarn.

I love working with Cotton Twirl. It is a really nice yarn.

Prime Time - June

I opted to try a thinner yarn for Rachel Wilson's Magic Mystery Dog pattern. The CPY Maizy is stretchy enough to make me happy with the fit.

The all knits and purls pattern was definitely "carefree" knitting!

Only about 16 grams left from the 2 balls, so these required a bit more than 320 yards.

specifics: in CPY Panda Wool -- baby blue -- 2 full skeins(340 yds) -- maybe 2 yards left...

knit on size 5

Based on the pattern Arcadian -- free on Ravelry -- with the following changes

1. simple picot edging added -- over 6 stitches

2. neck edge done in a double seed stitch

This, of course, came out much smaller than the original pattern -- since the original is done in worsted. HOWEVER, what it lacks in size, it totally makes up for in softness. I was really pleased with the yarn....amazingly soft, yet still retaining definition on the diamond lace pattern. I "sized up " the needles for better drape....and was pleased.
