Slightly Fierce but Friendly Dragon

Here is the start of a dragon I am making for the future son-in-law. He saw the one I made for my son and showed an interest in it:

So I an now making him one for Christmas. The yarn I am using Red Heart Supersaver yarn in dark sage.

I got lots of great knitting time this weekend (it was the last weekend of soccer, so Saturday was a long day), and finished the pinwheel blanket I'm knitting, as well as a scarf for a friend of mine.

First, the pinwheel blanket. This is for my husband's cousin, who is having a baby in December; we'll be seeing her next week, though, so I'm glad to have it done so I can give it to her in person.
It took three skeins of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted Solid, at 220 yards a skein, so 660 yards total. I ended up knitting a moss stitch border on it, which I'm pretty happy with.
I may have to knit one of these for me!

I also finished the scarf I'm knitting for a friend out of my handspun yarn; this is a merino/tencel blend, and I used about 200 yards of it for the scarf.
The stitch is out of one of Barbara Walker's books, a basic feather and fan with a cable in the middle.
So there they are. And since I'm one of the ones who was posting intermediate yarn amounts (sorry!), I'll put my full totals for FOs here, and not post any more yardage until I finished something else (if I manage it; that sweater is hanging over my head).
Neckwarmer: 150 yards
Scarf: 200 yards
Socks: 300 yards
Baby blanket: 660 yards
Grand total: 1310 yards (did I do that math right?)

socks for my brother

this is the start of socks for my brother's birthday...from last year. it really is not my fault that he has yet to receive a pair of completed socks. it took him almost a whole year to send me his measurements. even now, i am not sure that he measured his foot correctly...a heel flap of 3 1/2"? still seems kind of long to me. and i rarely see him at a place where i can whip out a tape measure and measure it myself.

the pattern is old navy, a nice change from a plain 2x2 ribbing. he wanted blue socks. so he is getting blue socks (regia line steps #5374). i cast-on 72 sts on us 1.5 addis (2.5mm). the pattern is not a true cable so there is a lot of stretch to the leg. will probably knit the foot in plain stockinette or maybe carry some of the ribbing down. don't think those little twirly things will be very comfortable in a shoe.

Frogs and Dishcloths?????

Friends for Adrienne and something to use to clean up after being at the pond.


Yep that is the current progress. Since Adrienne spends so much time at the Frog pond I thought I would make frog slippers to taunt her while she is there. She said she talks to the frog while there. This is another in my critters patterns so I am not sure how they will turn out.

Also a simple dishcloth for the heck of it. Was chatting on the phone and so I just grabbed needles and cotton and started knitting.

This is a pair of sock that I played with patterns. "A Play with Patterns" is what I will name them. I casted on and then started playing with different 4 stitch patterns. When I liked what I had, I repeated it. Fun knit if I can say so myself. The yarn is "On Your Toes" I used 350 yards for them. The yarn has Aloe Vera in it. I wonder if that will mean soft feet.
This pair of socks was a test knit for the Sockathon Yahoo group. This is the Nov. pattern. I finished them last month but could not post them until now. The designer is Kala Hotakainen. I sent them off before I could get better pictures of them. These are in Panda Soy and I used 350 yards.

Blueberry Waffle Socks

So I haven't finished the baby sweater for my niece yet so of course I had to start something new!





I'm using the Blueberry Waffle pattern by Sandy Turner and I'm using Berroco's Comfort DK in a gorgeous purple color.

I'm knitting very slow this week...

Well I started knitting my youngest granddaughter her hat, she picked out the pattern. I am going to put flowers on it instead of holly. Still haven't tackled the socks. I am very sick with the flu. I had to rip out my grandsons hat out, since it looked so big. I finally got his head measurement and now can get started on it. Here is a picture of my progress on my grand daughter's hat.

Two in progress photos, one ready scan

Yesterday I made a photo of two works in progress. First is block 5 of the Wolhemelblanket. Second is a pair of socks I am working on.

The block for the blanket is ready, and that puts another 110 yards into my account for this month. As it is pretty dark still, I scanned the block this morning.



Cute stitch. I like it a lot and thought it was easier than it looks to be. For Wietse's blanket I need 12 blocks in total, so I have still 7 to go. Block 6 is released on Wednesday.

Go Socks, No Camera, Ugh!

I finished my first pair of socks yesterday, but I can't find my camera, ugh! I have started 2 more pairs (only one will get done by the deadline, I am sure), but unless I can get a "start" pic soon, I worry they won't count, so how far is too much? One pair is going to be toe-up with the leftover yarn from my first pair, I figure that is easier than trying to figure out the yardage from the first one, since I used yarn from 4 CPY Panda skeins. :o)
The 2nd pair is also using 4 skeins of CPY Panda, so I guess if I actually got them done in time, I will have to guess at their yardage, yummy colors (will post which ones if I ever find my camera, lol) using the free Charade pattern found through Ravelry.

More Progress & Projects

I've been making progress on my projects. The Errant Socks I'm knitting for my mom now have heels. It won't be long before I'm counting this pair as an FO.


I started a new pair of socks for my daughter. These are in my "to go" bag that I take with me when we are out shopping or I have an appointment. You never know when a doc or dentist is running behind and knitting on my socks is a lot more fun then reading a magazine that's over 6 months old. I'm using my basic toe up sock pattern. This time I'm using a k3, p2 ribbing on the instep and leg. The yarn is Knit Picks Essential Multi and the colorway is Fruit Punch. It's a very cheerful color.


Finally I started a scarf for the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games that is being held in Boise, ID this year. The pattern is Meandering Stripes from the Knitting New Scarves book. The yarn is Red Heart Supersaver in White and Delft Blue.....everyone donating a scarf has to use this yarn. If you're interested in knitting a scarf for the Special Olympics you can get all the info here. There's plenty of time to knit and mail in the scarf.

waterlily sock

I started this "waterlily" sock by Stephanie (verybusymonkeyon ravelry) using Lorna's laces sock in "whisper" color just yesterday. I really like this pattern which is easy to follow and fun to knit. It looks more complicated than it is. I'm doing a short cuff. I bought the pattern to help her with her vet bills for her horse, Jonah, and got a bonus of truly enjoying knitting this sock. She has a blog which tells you more about her horse and patterns.

I'm using 2 circs alternating with 5 dpns depending on the section I'm knitting (trying to convert to beginning with the circs ala Adrienne's terrific mentoring.) :) Apologies if I'm not following protocol for reference to the pattern. I don't know how to do the name and click tricks, but really want more knitters to enjoy this pattern from a lovely designer.

I stopped at 31" across and used 4 skeins of the 6 I have. 920 yds. I'll make some booties and a vine lace hat with some of the yarn left. Pingouin corrida no. 3 It is a much prettier soft aqua than the pic shows. I like the way my mistake in the start makes a flower instead of a plain hole.

New sock started - Brenda (Owlsrook)

I just got my latest order in from Knit Picks, and cast on this sock in Knit Picks Essential Multi Yarn - Confetti Colorway. So soft. The pattern is by Wendy Johnson - Double Eyelet Rib Sock, which is a free pattern on the web. Really pretty and very quick to knit. I will use this pattern in other items for sure. Cast on Nov. 1-2008.

I have also cast on a shawl, but haven't done pictures yet, so will post that later.

Update on Sock Project

Here is progress on the sock I am working on. I made the cuff short because I was not sure I would have enough for a longer cuff. Even though it is a 50g ball, it looked like a small ball I want to be safe by making a short cuff.

this is the magnificent, wonderful, terrific, gorgeous, can't-stop=knitting Mini-Mochi, which is a superwash merino sock wt yarn. i am knitting the "intense rainbow" - more colors here at Mini-mochi colors. this yarn will be in your stores in early jan.
This is a new scarf i'm working on, which is a Tibetan Prayer flags design, and is using the 5 colors of DK panda silkDK Panda Silk ... it uses natural, forest, cranberry, denim and then the buttercup tones in Panda silk {doubled} panda silk colors
..... these 5 colors are water/air/earth/fire/spirit in the traditional Tibetan symbolism, and of course are the colors in prayer flags. i plan to knit in traditional symbols also - the OM, wheel of the dharma, endless knot, dorje, etc. Scarf will be a gift for my longest friend Kaitlin.

i have another thing on needles, a peach and forest wrister, but the forest didn't photo well, so will try tomorrow

Socck for me

These socks were part of a Ravelry challenge. I didn't quite make the 10/31/08 deadline, but they're done. The orange yarn is Yarn Place Chaussant, the red yarn is Oasis Aussi Sock, needles 2.5mm. Yardage about 400 yds.

The socks were started 9/29/08, and posted shaortly after.

The purple and green hat is an original design with colors picked by my dh ,. He loves it, and it turned out well, but as a designer one just has to "twiddle" a little.

I wanted to firm up the cables some, so twiddled with the design. The red below is the final design, with a photo on white and on blue so you can see how background can have an effect on your impression of colors.


Both hats were knit with Kaya from Crystal Palace yarns.

Now he loves both!
the hat uses two different yarns, and so the stranding adds extra warmth, as you are alternating colors for the cables.
I need to find a mannequin head so you can see the crown as it's very kewl.

but. i failed to take the in progress shots! WAAAH.

now i will go take photos of the sock i am knitting with new Mini-mochi! lucky girl me!

more completed projects

Long time, no post. I was busy finishing my mystery socks in Fuchsia Panda Cotton! Here is the completed photo:

and I knit some mini items for a contest my LYS is having:
This mini sweater is Crystal Palace Yarns Panda Wool (magenta):



Total yardage for the socks and dishcloth: 350 yards (gives me a nice round 500 yards total to date for this KAL). I won't count the mini items because I didn't show progress photos and there's not much yardage there anyway.
