More for Me!

I posted earlier about these mittens. (Details on February 1) They took 196 yards of worsted weight wool and are my own design. Of course, they match my coat. I wore it to the yarn store.

By them selves, they are not enough yardage. Then I remembered the KAL on Ravelry. We did/are doing a two color brioche scarf from Knitty called Rodekool. Yarn called for is CPY Mini Mochi.

I ran short on yarn, frogged back, still was a little short, was able to get yarn from someone else, and I finished about January 30 for the final time. 195 yards of yarn.

Yarn: CPY Mini Mochi in Neptune Rainbow
Needles: US #5/3.75 mm

Originally, I had bought another yarn, because I don't have local access to Mini Mochi. Decision was made to knit the scarf in that yarn also. I'm not sure who will wear the scarf, it may become a gift. One yarn is Jojoland Melody superwash. The other is Aussi Sock. The pattern is tricky, so I decided to knit it again while I remembered the tricks.

SKAJAN10

Here's mine.
Panda Silk in mint cream solid for cuff [and of course planned for heel & toe]
Mini-Mochi for sock body - Tropical Ginger. (one of my faves)

it's further along now, and i'm into that lovely mauve band you can barely see starting on the needles.

it's a new design i'm calling either 'play it again Sam', or more simply 'ZZig'.

done with ONE!

actually, this would be my second holiday knit but it is the first one to count for the kal.

traveling woman shawlette

mini mochi in violets rainbow
us size 6 needles

my first holiday knit would be these rainbow socks for my niece with the short row heels from h*ll! i must have knit the heel on the left sock at least 15 times if not more (5 days worth of knitting) before i finally got a heel i could live with. the right sock took me no less than 3 tries. funny, the yarn survived all that torture.

and to make life even harder for myself, i decided that the socks had to be mirrored. yes, i did.

now, don't nobody mention nuttin about short row heels in my presence. i don't wanna know.

anything goes

just to show that i do occasionally finish pairs of things....

"water lilies"

cascade heritage paints

and yes, i know that i only had to kitchener the toe on one sock after my progress picture. heehee!

and here are my "kai-meis." i actually finished these before we started the "anything goes" kal but wanted to share with you anyway.

"kai-mei"
mini-mochi in violet rainbow

this is the newer version of mini-mochi. it has a tighter spin to it so it is not quite as splitty as the first batch. being single ply, there are still some thick and thin spots and it is still a pita to frog (no, don't ask). it still knits up nice and fluffy!

love the new spin!

...on the mini-mochi!

i got some of the newer version of mini-mochi to play with. it has been spun a bit tighter so is less splitty than the first shipment. i love it. of course, i loved the first batch too. the yarn seems to fluff a bit after washing. it is still not fun to frog but being a single ply, i am not surprised.

the progress pics

these are initial and final pics of the princess nadia FLAME mini-mochi sweater. you can see it on her in a post below.

i did actually share these progress pics for my ufo with adrienne and others previously, but don't know if they count.

if you are looking, you can see that i changed the sleeve lace and made it match in the red section- the skeins are sooooooooo generous that it was easy to snip and go find the color i needed and start again.
remember you can join a break by knitting one or two st. with 2 strands. trust me, it won't show,
but you do it at a side edge not in the middle of the front.

we have winners! for real this time. susan, laura, debi, and i have so enjoyed seeing all your starts and finishes! and as i've mentioned before, you all have definitely added to my to-do list! please feel free to continue posting your holiday (or not) projects for us to see. i think i can still squeeze a couple of more projects on to my list!

we had susan generate 50 numbers for the drawing. there were 454 entries (100yds/entry) and we knitted/crocheted a combined total of 52,059 yards (and this does not even account for the projects that were started but not finished (it wasn't "ME"!). debi has graciously withdrawn her name from competition; but just to let you all know how generous she is being...she was the winner of the grand prize and her numbers came up at least another 10 times (i think she wins for most yards!). so smoochies to debi from all the people who had the numbers after hers!!!!

the winner of the
grand prize drawing is:

congratulations to all the winners. please email laura at proflauraATfirststepinternetDOTcom (*not clickable-you have to fix the AT & DOT*) with your address, your choice of yarn and colors. (if you don't, i will have susan send all left-over yarn to me ;D).

**cathy and peacock mom, please email laura with your choice of yarn and 3 different colorways.

who wants some mini-mochi

...before it is released to the general public?!

me! me! pick ME! actually i am going to be good and not get into it. BUT i am willing to share. if you go over to the socks and more blog, you will find a little drawing for some mini-mochi.

crystal palace yarns is giving 4 lucky people 2 skeins of mini-mochi. all you have to do is leave a comment here before december 2, 2008 (midnight pst) and you are entered. winners will be selected by random number generator. unfortunately, the drawing is restricted to people who live in the usa.

now, don't say i didn't tell you.

ps. make sure you leave a comment on my post about my "pair" of mini-mochi. don't listen to debi. she cheats. thank you.

it's a pair!!!

...of mini mochi's!

mini-mochi in strawberry-lime rainbow (#106)
knit as a toddler sock to show one repeat of the colors
i cheated (was told to call this a design feature) and used the opposite end of the ball for the heel flap so that you can see the lovely color transitions on the instep.

and the wrister i posted earlier.

oh! they are suppose to be two of the same thing and they're suppose to match! dang! maybe you all will take pity on me as i knit these as samples and i knit so slowly that this may be the last you will see from me. besides, there is not enough yarn left to knit a second of either thing... SOB!

can you believe that they each used 22 grams of yarn? or 171 yards should this count...please?!

leave a comment on whether you think this should count for kal entries or not. who knows what we might use to draw a winner for another prize...hint! hint! time is drawing near!!!!!!

mini mochi #2

(whispering) ... everything laura told you about the mini mochi is true.

look at what i am playing with!

mini mochi flame rainbow (#102)

the colors are just like noro but the yarn is butter soft, the color transitions are very subtle, and THERE IS NO VEGGIE MATTER!

this fingerless mitt project is a sample for susan; and will not be a "pair" because there ain't enough yarn! yes!
a valid excuse not to knit a pair! i will be writing the pattern for the mitt and a matching scarf. (and i think this pattern would also make some wonderful socks so will be doing that too. susan said i could). now to wait for this yarn to be available for real. i wonder how many skeins it takes to stuff an over-deep queen size mattress?!

you are gonna love it! trust me!

mini-mochi #1

toddler sock i just finished, using the exciting new mini-mochi yarn from crystal palace.
it is a superwash merino and is so very very soft and luxurious.
it is also, LOL, addictive... very much hard to stop!

right now i feel very blessed to get to test the yarn as there's only enough for samples for the moment. shipments will be coming soon! except, LOL, you are going to have to come to my house and search for it. i want at LEAST 2 of every color Mini-Mochi and am thinking 10 of each color might be more reasonable, so i can roll around in it and braid it into my hair and ....
er um.
for this yarn? i'd give up chocolate.

on the needles now 11/1

these are two colors of the new superwash Panda Wool, called Psup [Pea Soup] for shorthttp://www.straw.com/cpy/yarns/pandaSuperwash-card.htmlhand.... this is a striped toddler sock in new pink print and mint print. here are the colors Psup colors

this is a new color that's coming in panda cotton, called Joyful. it is much prettier than photo shows, so will do another pic tomorrow. panda cotton
this is the magnificent, wonderful, terrific, gorgeous, can't-stop=knitting Mini-Mochi, which is a superwash merino sock wt yarn. i am knitting the "intense rainbow" - more colors here at Mini-mochi colors. this yarn will be in your stores in early jan.
This is a new scarf i'm working on, which is a Tibetan Prayer flags design, and is using the 5 colors of DK panda silkDK Panda Silk ... it uses natural, forest, cranberry, denim and then the buttercup tones in Panda silk {doubled} panda silk colors
..... these 5 colors are water/air/earth/fire/spirit in the traditional Tibetan symbolism, and of course are the colors in prayer flags. i plan to knit in traditional symbols also - the OM, wheel of the dharma, endless knot, dorje, etc. Scarf will be a gift for my longest friend Kaitlin.

i have another thing on needles, a peach and forest wrister, but the forest didn't photo well, so will try tomorrow

blessings, L
