Oak Creek Socks

And some of you thought I didn't know how to knit on toothpicks!!
Finished these off on a trip to Phoenix for mil's 75th birthday party. Knit with about .8 skeins of Supersocke 100 in sierra-effect (about 344 yards). on size 3 toothpicks. Started around December 10th, finished today, december 31st. I know that they could use a good blocking, but they ended up on someone's feet before I had a chance. Pattern is a hand written generic sock pattern that I had stashed in an old knitting bag a few years back. No idea where it originally came from.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone! I've really enjoyed reading through your posts and being inspired by your projects. Quite a few have ended up in my queue on Ravelry.

I finished 10 pairs of socks for Christmas presents - making the total 18 pairs. One pair for each of my family - except my poor Mother. But, it has become a tradition that I don't finish at least one of her gifts and give her the yarn, needles, and pattern wrapped. Out of Crystal Palace Yarn, I finished these socks for my niece. Using just under one ball of Mini Mochi in Jenny Lake (173 yards), these are Cinnamon Bay Socks by Phyll Lagerman. Knit up on 2.0mm. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/sdhsmc86/cinnamon-bay-socks-by-phyll-lagerman

To finish out the year, I wanted to try the Noro Keyhole Pattern again, this time actually making the keyhole. I got some Mochi Plus in Blueberry Pancakes on sale at my LYS. This is a quick knit on US10 needles and used about 140 yards. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/sdhsmc86/noro-keyhole-scarf-2

Looking forward to sharing 2012 with all of you!

December Prime Time

Here's my December project! It's called Billion Dollar Hat and is from the book Punk Knits. I used 3.5 skeins of Paton's Classic Wool held double, which comes out to 365 yards (735 total yardage, but only one "strand" counts). Made this with two size 10 circulars at the beginning and switched it all over to one circular as I was doing the brim.

WIP - I think I'm about halfway down the hat here

Unfelted!  I'm like The Scarecrow. =D

Finished!

kal is moving to ravelry!

after reading your comments and looking at the polls (which are finally “helpful”), i’ve decided to move the Carefree KALs to ravelry starting in january. we will finish the current prime time kal on the blog.

the plan will be to have a “no chat” thread for you to post your progress and finished pix. i will use that thread to track your completion for the kal. i will talk to susan about prizes for 6/12 finishers. if you wish to donate a prize for non cpy finishers, please pm (or email) me with what you what to donate. everyone who finishes the kal would be eligible for the non-cpy drawing. only those who complete 6/12 would be eligible for the cpy drawing.

please keep your membership in the Carefree Blog, just in case things need to change.

if you are not a member of ravelry, please join us over there. our group is "crystal palace yarns: kal's and other things."

December Prime Time - PHEW

I nearly blew it. Thought I couldn't finish out the year... I'm dealing with a very sore elbow and my knitting has been quite limited,
BUT I had this pair that I forgot to post! I think Tour de Sock left me slightly loopy. It didn't do my elbow any favors. This is my second pair from Panda Soy. The pattern is Waterslide from the Six Sox KAL. 300 yards.

Prime Time KAL - 12/11 Finished!!!

For December I knit a hat for my daughter, Tracie using Dream in Color yarn (with cashmere) from a Sept 2011 DIC Club and Van's Twisted Rib Hat which was a fun pattern. It had a brim you flipped up so you knitted the rib using the reverse side. I used size #7 needles for it. Then I knit a scarf from stash yarn for my Church. I used size 13 needles and crocheted around the edge and added fringe. Finally I knit a rifle scope cover for my sil. No pattern available so I drew a pattern using the dimensions so hopefully it will fit his rifle. I used size 7 needles and Red Heart Woodsy yarn.

December KAL

He are my projects for the year long KAL, I did a knitted scarf, a knitted hat, and a crocheted hat. It is hard to believe that the year is over.

December KAL

Here is my final entry of the year!  Whew!  I finished it just in time for us to leave town.

I made the Out of My Head Shawlette.  I knitted the pattern as written.  It used an interesting (slightly confusing) method to get started that I think I did properly. I screwed up the lace pattern a time or two which required many anguished sighs and much teeth grinding to get back on track. (The pattern requires at least 350 yards and I reckon I used at least that much.)

I think it turned out okay although I wish it was a little bigger. I seriously need a lesson in blocking.  I honestly don't know how to do it to good result.

Happy New Year to everyone!

December Primetime

WIP Pic

Finished Pic

Made some plain old vanilla socks for myself in between all the christmas knitting. I got the yarn on clearance for $0.79 each, so less than $2/pair. Can't beat that! I used almost the entire 2 balls as i made them a little longer and wider than my usual, so 330yrds.

Almost made the whole year again. Thanks for a greay KAL.

December Primetime

Whee, here we go! I was banning from little needle knitting until Monday. I used Lion Brand thick and quick (four skeins)
Project 1-speedy cable cowl
Project 2-speedy cable hat
project 3- Fear of Commitment cowl
they were all done on really big size 13-17 needles
Projects started 11-2011
Projects finished 12-15,18-2011 (so far.)

December Project

After the dismal failure of my Holiday (or Not!) project, I knit a pair of socks for the husband.
Andy's sunny socks
Andy's Herbstsonne socks finished
Started: 12-9-11
Finished: 12-13-11
Yarn: Zauberball Starke 6ply Herbstsonne (Autumn Suns)
Pattern: 72st vanilla socks
Needles: 2.5mm

I did get through half of the squares of the blanket for the Holiday (or Not!) KAL but I will have to use it for next year's KAL instead!  Hopefully it will be finished before the end of winter. :)

December Prime Time -- I did it!

I am pleased as punch -- I made it through 12 months! Here is December: another pair of slippers, but this time silly, and a thick, warm, stretchy brioche hat from Mochi Plus. Merry Christmas everyone (or whatever makes you festive).

Prime Time KAL - December finale

I guess I'm going out with a bang! I used 7 yarns in these socks, six different colors, although some of them look the same in small bits. The pattern is inspired by a sock in the Spin-Off sock book.US #!~-2.25 mm needles were used on the leg and US #@-2.75 mm needles for the fairisle parts. They were finished December 22.

Dec Primetime KAL

I finally finished the Fiddlehead Scarf by Linda Blakely. Before blocking, 54". After blocking: 80". I used 164 gms of Wired for Fibre "Lauren" which is a worsted wt. About 300 yds. Love the yarn which is sadly discontinued. The second project is a gift for Chris and it took 2 days to make at an easy pace. ~ 120 yds of Sugar 'n Cream cotton. I had 3 gms left from a 70.9gm skein. Pattern is Dragon Dishcloth by Susan Bowlby. It is large and I know Chris will use it as a placemat on his tray for eating in the garden. :)

Baby fumes

So, my niece was expecting a baby in August. And I did become overcome by a huge urge to knit for the baby. And new mom too. I made socks and hat for baby, and socks for mom. But then a friend said her daughter-in-law was expecting her second child in November. No problem, I thought. Surely I could knit several pieces of a baby set (pants, socks, hat, sweater, blanket). This was my thinking back in August. My friend didn't get the yarn untill the end of September. No problem. Surely I can knit the pants and another piece before the baby is born, right? Ha, ha. Not quite. Second baby was born around Thanksgiving (USA) and I finished the pants yesterday. I blame it on baby fumes :)

my rav project page

yarn: heritage solids by cascade yarns, 116g = 507yds

P.S. fingering weight yarn + baby pants = still a lot of stitches (doh) P.P.S. why, yes. that is a leather grain look counter top in my kitchen, lots of interesting texture (what were they thinking?? grr)

Carefree Blog or Ravelry?

Do you prefer to keep the current format for the yearlong kal? or would you prefer a move to the crystal palace group on ravelry?

you can either leave a comment here or vote on the poll that i've set up on rav.
Link
12/20: who, on the blog, is not a member of ravelry?

KALs for next year

i am sure that all of you will agree that susan and crystal palace yarns have been more than generous with the donation of prizes for our kals. at this point in time, it is hard to have susan be the only provider of prizes.

what are your feelings about continuing the year-long type kal without prizes? or having member donated prizes? susan would still donate prizes for a drawing where members use cpy for 6 out of the 12 months.

we can continue to have themed kals but prizes will depend on member donations or the use of crystal palace yarn products.

ETA: I've set up a poll on ravelry. Please go "vote."

for ever & ever

As in....I'm going to love you ..... Although I originally thought the name would refer to the length of the garter stitch rows that just seemed to go on...for ever and ever.....

This was made with CPY Fiord --2.1 skeins/191 yds(jet) and Mini Mochi(market spice) -- 1 skein/195 yds on size 9 needles.

How to: Cast on 260 stitches in solid color(fiord), alternate solid color with striping yarn(mochi) -- 2 rows each. End when you run out of yarn, or like the way it looks, or just get tired of knitting it. Bind off in stretchy bind off. Pick up and add 4 rows of garter stitch on ends. Weave in ends...block by throwing it around your neck and dashing off to work. Squish into your pocket when not around your neck.

Came out to 8" by 58"
Started Dec 14th,
Ended Dec 21st.

I am keeping this one. really, really soft.
