April Update

I have one finished pair of socks plus another started pair to post this week. The finished pair are Tea and Scandal Socks, which I knit with the Crystal Palace Panda Silk yarn in a very pretty silver blue that I won (thanks, Adrienne & Laura!!). I used a little over 300 yards of the yarn.

At the beginning of the month I cast on another pair of socks that I am calling my hospital socks since right after casting on I would up in the hospital for a week with multiple pulmonary emboli. I worked on them while in the hospital and now take them with me every week when I go back to the doctor. At this rate I am sure that it won't take me long to finish them!!

Finished March Project

I found this pattern on Ravelry and was really taken by it. It is the Mystery Sock '09 from Through the Loops. I had made a pair of socks for my Mom and my Grandmother demanded a pair so these are for her.

I really, really, really like this pattern. The small cuff detail, ropes down side of foot that continue down heel, the foot pattern that ends in an almost heart on the toe. This pattern is fantastic. I highly recommend it to everyone.

This is also the first time I have used the Panda Soy yarn from Crystal Palace and I am in love with it. It is my current favorite (sorry Malabrigo!). It is unbelievably soft and silky and the pattern dapples wonderfully. I used two balls of the Hazelnuts color (about 360 yards). Fantastic project that I am extremely proud of!

The foot model is my Mom by the way. She is in town visiting after my hospital stay in March and for Easter. I have to watch her like a hawk so she doesn't snatch them!

12/12/12 April entry: Haruni in my fav ultramarine CPY Panda superwash

Pattern by Emily Ross (free on rav) was very well written and a joy to knit with my favorite yarn for shawls. I had 26 gms leftover from the 3 balls =150 gms. The only change I made was to use a 2mm crochet hook and single chain 8 sts instead of 6 between the leaf tips for the crochet bind off (which was easy and a clever method). The drape of the yarn in this pattern is perfect and I love the way it feels. :)

12m/12p/12boy - March - Brenda (Owlsrook)

March Project Completed - Mini Mochie Scarf in Colour #115 - Purple Dawn. I am not completely happy with this project, as this time the yarn knot curse struck, and there were a few breaks & ties in the yarn, which through off the colour blending from one shade to the next shade nicely. I gave up trying to recreate where the colour blends should start, as it was wasting to much yarn. Anyhow, finished project is about 64 inches long, and I would estimate 310 to 325 yards used. Despite the yarn breaks, I really enjoyed using Mini Mochie, and I will be doing several projects with it this year.

February Scarf Finished

Finished my scarf and I just love the colors. Used almost two skeins of the Crystal Palace Mini Mochi - well over 300 yards. Size 9 circular needles and the One Row Lace Scarf pattern by Turvid. Perfect length when you make it double around the neck and slip the scarf part through the loop. Love it!

Olympic are over how sad

I for one love the olympics. I watch every sport I can. Living close to Canada, we get to watch almost every sport as the TV coverage there is wonderful. I heard NBC did not even show all of the closing ceremonies. Shaking my head wondering why not. About the pictures now that the Olympics are over we are back to our normal weather pattern, windy, rainy and cool.

But, here is a my final projects. Mochi Plus Oz shawl. Wanted to see how it looked in a shawl as I had not seen one done yet. This was yarn I won in last years contest. Love how it feels and looks.

Then I played with some different yarns from Crystal Palace. Hats in Bunny Hop, Blanket Buddy in Puffin.

Also...umm remember I love the games....my dil, picked out this type of afghan pattern and colors so a baby blanket. One big granny square. But, she will love it so that is the important part.

Then being this is the first of March. Oh my were did Feb go (oh right Olympics).. Thought I would post a start project. This is a Kit from The knitter.

February Finish

Here is a scan of the finished Panda Soy socks. The way the color blocks fall in the cuff was really pleasing. Sock count for the month is five and a fraction. There is this pair. There is the sock and a third that was done before the needles broke (now a UFO, sigh). And there is the pair that was started last year, with the second sock knit this month and the one from last year frogged to before the heel (toe up) and reknit. This pair uses a Cat Bordi heel, while the other three were flap construction. Since time was tight, these were finished with the EZ sewn bindoff, while the other three were done with Jen's Surprisingly Stretchy Bindoff. That will probably be my new standard ending - it is nice (found in Knitty).

When I feel like fighting with the camera again, I'll replace the scan with a picture of all five socks. Think that is enough socks for a while - next month something different. Let's see, my headband was lost - maybe a hat?

February Projects, Finished.

With a few hours left in the month, here are my two projects for February in the 12/12/12 KAL.

My first project is an Herbivore shawl using Mini-Mochi in the Treasure Chest colorway. I love the way this yarn looks in this shawl! I think I'll be making it again in different colors eventually.

Since the shawl took less yarn than expected (only 230 yards or so) I started a new project last night to get enough yardage for the month. This second project is a neckwarmer/button-up cowl using an altered Accordion Scarf pattern from the lastest Knit Simple magazine. I'm happy with the way it turned out, but I'll be making it again and altering the pattern some more.

Olympic KAL - Finished Project - Team Finland

Here is my finished project for the Olympics 2010 KAL - just finished this afternoon. This is for Team Finland in the Ivory and Royal Blue of their flag. I used 4 complete balls of Bamboozle so about 360 yards total. This is a pattern from the Signature Scarves book by Nicky Epstein. I did not include the fringe from her pattern.

This was my first real project involving cables and I am very happy with the end result. The pattern is very well defined and the drape of the Bamboozle suits the pattern well. It's nice how thick the fabric ends up with cables too.

I think this may qualify for Olympic Spirit, Team Spirit and Alpine Skiing.

just about "blinged" out

finished these on february 22nd but wanted them to have a wash and block to look their prettiest!

bling from 50 socks/50 states

panda silk with lots of beady magic
us 2.25mm needles
beads all the way down the heel flap
and the front to the toes
added extra beads to center lace motif
and modified heel flap to match the toe
(and yes, i have to change my own pattern because i can't help myself)

i think i have enough bling on these now. =P

Finished some more

I had some panda silk DK and wanted to see it in a shawl. Pardon the pictures as the wind picked up and it started pouring down rain. Thank You Laura for helping out with this one. Pattern is pimpelliese Easy to pattern to do once you chart it out yourself.

The start of the shawl along with the start of a baby blanket. Shawl won out.

Yes this is a long shawl.

Sometimes I do not say No loud enough or fast enough. I was asked to make this vest. I never did say I would but somehow went home with the thread for it. Pattern had to be redone as I did not have the correct cotton thread so the motifs were bigger. But here it is modeled on my neighbor.

Feb socks finished + Olympic project

I finished the 2nd Rainbow CPY bamboo cotton sock last night. My most fav socks ever for fit, softness of the yarn and enjoyment knitting. Adrienne Fong's pattern. Wonderful combo of the pattern and yarn. I've already decided to make many socks in this yarn when I can get some sent to me. :) Taking a break from the other pair of Rainbows in the Amerika yarn for the Olympics KAL.
I'm showing a pic I just took of my Olympics project. The restraint and discipline needed not to begin early has caused a lot of "reward" chocolate to be consumed. I took an insert from Fred's suitcase and have had this "package" on our sofa table ready to go and not get "lost in a safe place" which can happen around here more than I'd like to admit.
The afghan shown is one I knit for our anniversary a couple of years ago. It still hasn't been blocked since Fred loves using it so much. I DID take off as many corgi hairs as I could in honor of the pic, really! Our own Dr. Laura designed it and it is one of my most favorite knitted projects. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/warm-hearts-comfortghan
When it gets a bath and is blocked, I will show it with another finished project.
Happy knitting up there from way down under here at the peacock palace in paradise

My valentine scarf done

Here's my Valentine scarf, done in 2 skeins of Panda Silk. I used it all but a few yards.
