12m/12p/12boy - July 2010 Completed - Brenda (Owlsrook)

July 8/10 - completed project for July - Lace Shawl - Started July 1/10, Using mini mochi - estimated 385 yards - using a size 3.5mm circular needle. I only modified this pattern by adding and extra repeat in each section, and deciding I liked the Eyelet edging instead of the Picot edging used in the pattern. This was a fun and very quick knit. (Progress picture was posted last week).

Cast on - July

This is my version of the Ravelry SKA Mystery Sock by Chrissy Gardiner. The photo was taken on the hood of my car, explaining the reflections.

The light gray main color is Plymouth Yarn Happy Feet. Turquoise is Wildfoote. I'm also using Trekking tweed, Lorna's Laces Shepherd sock, and Dream in Color Starry.
Needles are 2.5 mm.

I'm still knitting away on my orange socks for SKA June, my Dog Days jacket project, and my swiss cheese scarf.

July Projects

So far July has been a busy month. I finished a pair of socks, started another pair, and started a cowl.

The finished socks are basic ribbed socks knit with Austermann Step. I only used 312.8 yards. I love the way they turned out, but the dark colors made the knitting difficult. The cowl is the Birthday Cowl which I am making in Malabrigo Worsted. I am making it very long so it can be pulled up like a hood. The in-progress socks are Skyp Socks using Regia Galaxy. I love this pattern - it was easy to memorize and I love the way it looks in this yarn.

12m/12p/12boy July WIP

For July I am making these socks - Sultry Lace (Mississippi) by Debbie Haymark from 50 Socks - 50 States with Crystal Palace Panda Soy in Provence. The yarn is wonderful to work with! I'm having a bit of a problem with the fit (the only needle I had in a short circular was a 1 so I thought I'd give it a try - wrong!). The pattern is fun (thank goodness!!! ) I am now working on the second sock and I changed to square dpn in a 1 but they are tighter and I removed two repeats. I think they will be pretty when they are done. If I have enough yarn I won't rip the first one but turn it into a phone bag....we shall see if I need the yarn.

Dog Days KAL

I am making this sweater for my Granddaughter, Haley, and if I don't hurry she will outgrow it. It feels like I've been working on it forever! I am going to finish it by the end of August tho' so maybe she will get some use out of it! I know I made an extra large size 5-6 and it is a darn good thing.

I'm using size 3 and 5 needles, Sirdar Snuggly Magic Yarn and the Hoolded Sweater and Jacket Pattern. The back and both sleeves are done but I still need to do the front, the hood and the finishing.

Here's my finished June Skirt. I sent the email to Adrienne from my cell due to lack of proper computer accessibility. (do I EVER love the face I can email from my text messages!) Now it's time to get hopping and cast on something for July. I should pick something quick and uncomplicated, but we all know this isn't going to happen. Have a good one!

Hi, so glad to be done with June! Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July (or Canadian Day.) I recieved some yarn for a gift anyone please pm my on Rav for a chemo hat in worsted weight. My friend Julie had her first chemo appt. last week and I want to make her things. My rav name is knit-frog-knit. And I am going to either do the "Blue Crab" socks or the "Vegas" ones too for July. Something big first for my hands then back to socks!

12/12/12 July 4th socks for Fred

I didn't finish these in time for his birthday due to a massive brain fade mistake of skipping the heel turn and going directly to the gusset section. I was shocked when I realized the error (after thinking the sock was funny looking and decreasing most of the picked up sts) and had to frog back to the top of the heel flap and do the turn. I had been knitting in the middle of the night to finish on time and did finish a few minutes ago which is still July 4th "up over" and July 5th here down under.
I used 2 full skeins of Crystal Palace Panda cotton in delft blue and 25 gms of the red ketchup skein + a bit of cream. At least he will be able to wear them mid-July when he teaches in the tropics in Darwin. :) Thuja pattern for the cuff and plain stockinette below the ankles.

July Progress

I seem to have missed blogging about these socks. They meet the Ravelry SKA June challenge of vintage socks. I started with a 1944 man's pattern and down sized them.I used less ribbing and more repeats of the cable on the leg. My leg is 7 1/2", not 11". The heel and toe are interesting, no ssk decreases. The gusset does nave a skp decrease, which gives the same left slant. The cable was written out. I charted it to see how many rows before the next crossing.

Dog Days - July Update

My UFO Dog Days project is a jacket I started about a year ago. It is 3 color seed stitch, using dish cloth cotton. I have adapted a Vogue Marcy Tilton pattern for knitting. I started the dog days challenge with a jacket body and one sleeve. I now have 2 sleeves and still need edging all around.

June Project

Socks again.

Tofusie - not thrilled with the yarn. Third time with the Andersson heel - this time I tried something else to get rid of the wrinkle I've been getting in the front at the ankle bend. I switched to continuing short rows for an additional eight rows after the heel decreases were done, using Cat Bordhi's wrap method. Think this is going to work, but it was a lot of knitting backwards (48 stitches at the max). We'll see how they feel and fit after washing.

12/12/12boy June and present!

Hi, Here is my item for this month. It is a doll sweater for my daughters American Girl Doll. The doll was gifted to her this last month too! I am so grateful that a Ravelry member gave it to her that I had to make something for it! But, I will never do another sweater! The whole time I was worried I would run out of yarn too. I will definately use a solid next time too! Too much making the sleaves and body of the work match jazz (picky,picky,picky!) I also hate being a self taught knitter and not feeling comfortable with the directions on a new project. And, too much sewing up. I used 50 gm's of Opal (the same color as my Rhode Island socks.) The doll is holding the leftovers! Now she can knit! We are making her a pair of knitting needles too! It looks more like an 80's dress that needs leggings because of my gauge I think! But, I can't rip it out.

And here is my gift for the last 50 Socks/ 50 States Rav group! A wonderful color I love in Panda Superwash! I am so glad I did not start the Blue Crab socks! I will be making mine red! Yeah, yeah, yeah! Thanks Adrienne for all of your hard work and Susan for the wonderful gifties! It makes no yarn budget easier to take! Off to cast on! Pray for us again too. Darin lost his job (for the third time) and will be off to California soon to get some work! Have a great Fourth of July holiday! Drive safe ya'll! I have never been so excited to finish a project but, back to socks!

July 2, 2010 - I started my July project yesterday - July 1,2010 (Canada Day). I have selected Gail Tanguary's pattern "Lace Triangle Shawl with Picot Hem". Thank you Gail for making this pattern available to everyone. I am using Crystal Palace, Mini Mochi in Colour #109 - Treasure Chest. Have just finished the first 48 row section of the lace pattern. This is a really nice flowing pattern, and fun to knit.

I started this one in October 2009

Now this one is done:

I need to block it today as the shawl is curling enormously. Almost 1600 meters are worked in this one, on 3.5 mm needles.

It came ready yesterday as I have been steady working on it for the past two weeks. Five pattern blocks were added since I picked the shawl back up - so 50% was already done.

A pair of wristers in June... made out of Lambswool for the 12/12/12 boy. Design is my own. On its own 180 m of yarn in it, so it goes together with a shawl... designed by Kerrie Allman, can be found in Yarn Forward Magazine issue 16. Also knit in June...
