March's Knitting

Well I didn't get my sock finished yet but I did knit a shawl. The pattern is Waves of Leaves and my yarn is Socks that Rock "Grawk". I like how the colors show. The first pictures is of my progress but it shows the colors in the yarn and the last is the finish project blocked.

Hopefully I will get a pair of socks done this month the Rivendell are almost to the toe.

March Finish

Double knit hat - blue is public side and orange is private side, at least until I change my mood.

Finished for now, at least. It's in use - there was snow here last weekend. I'll probably rip it down and rework the top this summer, as it did not taper as smoothly as I had hoped.

The dragon is an adaptation of MMario's Lung Wang Dragon, and the rune on the back is (hopefully) a Norse rune for household prosperity.

Once again, a learning experience - this was not a good bus riding project. It is made a bit large on purpose, as I was not sure of the size (gauge, hah, I don't need no stinking gauge) so it can be fulled at a later time. It is definitely warm. And only two ends to weave in - definitely a plus.

Can you believe it?!?!?!

I'm done with a project BEFORE the end of the month. Whooot Whooot! Here's the Shoulder Cape by Debbie Bliss made out of Marble Chunky. I used about 525 yards of yarn. Now I should be able to give it to her in time to pack away for next fall. A girl can only do what a girl can do.

feb 12/12/12boy progress pics

Hi, on vacation with my socks. I caught kidney stones on Sunday and I want to give them back to whoever gave them to me! I am doing the Simple Side to Side Socks with Flat Feet yarn. The deadline for the Sock Madness pattern 1 (on ravelry) is tonight at midnight so I think I am out. But, I will be a cheerleader.

Wow, thanks for the gifty on the Olympic KAL Susan! I am so surprised! I love the Chili Red color I used in the Panda Superwash. I will email Adrienne when I get home from my California vacation (tomorrow) with my choices!

New Socks Started

I just started the Solid Socks Mystery Socks March/April 2010. What a beautiful pattern! I am using the Crystal Palace Yarns Panda Silk Solid that I won (thanks, Adrienne and everyone). Before I knit the foot I will just have to decide who is going to be lucky enough to get them! (The photo on the left is the cuff and leg, and the one on the right is the cuff, leg, and heel.)

Finished Socks

I finished my Opal Socks! These really flew off the needles, and I can't wait to wear them. The yarn is Zwerger Garn Opal Regenwald / Rainforest in Frosch.

March- stuff in progress, stuff that's finished

I need to be more organized about posting! I have one FO - my St. Paddy's day socks. Here are before and after pictures of them. I used about 350 yards. The pattern is my top down plain vanilla sock and the yarn I used is Knitterly Things' Vesper sock yarn in colorway Shamrockin'. What a fun colorway to work with!

I started sweaters too (I clearly am not a monogamous knitter). This is the beginnings of Jared Flood's Seneca sweater. I'm using Madtosh Vintage yarn in colorway tart and will use about 1200 yards. I'm actually on the yoke now of this sweater and am loving the way it's knitting up.

I'm taking an advanced sweater class at my LYS that I started in mid-February. This is what I have so far. The yarn is Cascade 220 - I'll use about 1200 yards of this as well.


I have a couple more projects OTN that I need to photograph.

March socks in progress

I had to do something different for a while. The shawl is progressing well, but especially on the rainy evenings we had in the past couple of days a bit hard to see. I needed something along the side to play with, and started a pair of socks on Friday evening... LOL! The yarn I am using is Drops Delight

I am from now on planning to note down historical facts...LOL! A personal fact is that I did the gusset decreases in a different way... and I like the result thus far.

I worked on it, on March 21, while watching the World Championship Ice Speed Skating, held in Thialf Stadium in Heerenveen. Sven Kramer won the 10 km in an amazing time. He also won the world title for the fourth time. It is the first time ever in history that a skater wins the world title four times in a row.

Whew! Finished my Nefertiti shawl. It's so soft, I just love this alpaca!

correction about the Roger socks

Oops! I just realized I had 2 skeins of the "dyed in the wool handmade in Canada" yarn and used 56 gms for each sock. I had 59 gms left from each 115 gm skein. So I really used 112 gms of the 115 if I had used just 1 ball. I didn't want to confuse anyone who might be ordering this yarn for a similar sock pattern in size large. At least I know I can make 2 more socks if I make the cuffs a bit shorter or for moi! :)

markers arrived and already on needles

A BIG thank you to Dr. Laura for the pretty markers from last year's 52 week challenge KAL. You can see they are already in use for this little footie version of Adrienne's "Rainbow Over Lahaina" pattern in CPY Panda Cotton. This yarn is my personal favorite for my own socks.
This is the start pic and I plan to knit another pair or more to combine/qualify for a future monthly entry.

Roger socks for month of March

I finished the Anne Hanson Roger socks which fit Fred perfectly thanks to Adrienne's help. The cuff section fits fine as written for the 64 sts, but I had to add enough after the heel flap to get to the usual 72 stitch size for Fred. The cuff pattern stretches enough and perhaps if I had continued in the pattern, the below the ankle part would have fit as well, but Fred has decided he prefers plain ("not lumpy") stockinette below the ankles. I had to frog back to the heel flap when it wouldn't go over his foot. That's when Adrienne rescued me and saved the sock for Fred. I will knit another pair just like them in another medium weight yarn in my stash. I would love to get some more of this yarn. It is a joy to knit. Just the right firmness, but soft at the same time. :)
The yarn is "dyed in the wool handmade" from Canada and "fingering sock medium weight". I got 7.5 st/inch with 2.5mm needles. I love this yarn and also enjoyed this pattern very much. I have 59 gms left from a 115 gm skein. The pic with the skein is closer to the true color, but is much prettier in person.

2 More FO's

I have 2 more finished projects to post. The first is my Saskia Shawl, which I don't think I posted here. I used 806.4 yards of JaggerSpun Maine Line yarn in Teal, which I love.

The second is the Panama Shawl by Monika Eckert, knit in Misti Alpaca Solids. It took 1551.4 yards, and it came out huge - a whopping 96" x 45". I didn't realize that it would be so large!

Now I am working on the Eliina Shawl using leftover Maine Line yarn from the Icelandic Shawl that I made in 2007, continuing with Multnomah, and have started a pair of socks. The February Lady Sweater is coming along very slowly, but I will see my daughter next week and will be able to measure it on her so I can proceed. Progress photos are coming as soon as I have a sunny day.

12m/12p/12boy - March - Brenda (Owlsrook)

March Project Completed - Mini Mochie Scarf in Colour #115 - Purple Dawn. I am not completely happy with this project, as this time the yarn knot curse struck, and there were a few breaks & ties in the yarn, which through off the colour blending from one shade to the next shade nicely. I gave up trying to recreate where the colour blends should start, as it was wasting to much yarn. Anyhow, finished project is about 64 inches long, and I would estimate 310 to 325 yards used. Despite the yarn breaks, I really enjoyed using Mini Mochie, and I will be doing several projects with it this year.

First Sock Done

Here are pics of the first sock completed for the 12m/12p/boy for March.

12m/12p/12boy - mlj1954 - progress sock

Socks for Zachariah . . . socks are my new passion . . . the problem is not second sock syndrome . . . the problem is poor planning on my part.  This was going to be something else, except that I was going to knit group and needed something that I wouldn't be counting on.  So I started this sock.  It was last Wednesday, March 10.  I don't remember the yarn but the good news is that I do have another skein of the stuff in my stash. 

Here is another picture of it.  This stuff is incredibly soft.can't you just feel it???

The other sock, which I will add a progress photo (it is on a different camera), is not as soft.  But Zachariah will love them.  And here is one progress photo (way below is another):

This was made with Lion Brand Sock-Ease.  He liked the way the stripes work out.  The advantage of making socks for him is that his feet are relatively small.  The bad thing is that he has to wear dark socks to school.  We are pushign the idea of "dark" socks with this yarn. 

So, I have one more sock to finish in this yarn and finish the other unknown yarn sock plus the matching one!

Maybe someday I'll make a pair for me.

Sock Progress for March

Blue socks for the SKA lace challenge are growing slowly.The lace is on the back of the leg. Stealth knitting interferes with sock progress.

The green Mystery Socks for SKA are also growing. I'm using these as a break for the stealth knitting. Clue #3 comes out on Monday 3/15. I may not have finished Clue #2 on the second leg by then.

This is my new project for March. It was started on the first, and the picture is a few days old - I'm just about to bind off for the first sock tonight.

Speed Sock Knitting.

Some one here on this blog has encouraged me to join 2 different speed sock knitting contests. In truth we thought one would be done by the time the second one started. So, 2 patterns came out within 4 days of each other.


This is a sideways sock. You knit a bunch, divide the stitches in half knit each half a bunch more. Graph to form a tube. Add a toe, add a toe to the heel, then add a cuff. Over 250 grafted stitches.
Finally this is what you get. The yarn had been in my stash for many a years. If it was wine it would be a vintage year by now. Patons Kroy is the yarn, it happen to be sitting right beside the computer when the pattern came out so seemed perfect to use. This pattern was for Sock Madness.

Iron Knitter pattern. Pattern came out last Sat. One has to solve clues to get the pattern. Clues were tough on this one. Yarn is Knit Picks Gloss. I have some in my family that study yarns are a must. Lots and lots of cables on this pair. This pattern had a heel that I had never done before.
Now to rest up for the next ?????? Oh and packing for Calif. I get 8 days in the sun (there better be some). On an island. Oh my....how much fun can a Mom have. My daughter's job has her in a condo there. We will be looking for a Wedding Dress for her. But, lucky for me she will still have to work so I have all DAY to knit and play on the beach. Counting the days.......hours, minutes, seconds.........
