July Project: My First Sweater

This mystery yarn used to be a rather long skirt and I turned it into a great sweater for my youngest dd.  This is my first attempt at a sweater and I didn't want to use good yarn in case I totally mangled it.  In progress:

I knitted top-down and totally mangled that first sleeve.  But it all came together in the end and my daughter is very happy with it.  Finished project:

I trimmed it with a yellow bow.  The bottom is 3 by 1 ribbing.  I was very happy with this project.

June Projects

I won some wonderful yarn from here:
And a friend of mine had some good news and so I decided to make a baby kimono:

This yarn is so soft and nice to work and it is perfect for making baby stuff. Here is the completed set of kimono and hat:
It took all three skeins to make the set. And to round it out I also made some more dishcloths in the moss roses color of this yarn.
I love working with Cotton Twirl. It is a really nice yarn.

May Project

I was lucky enough to be chosen on the Ravelry list to receive this yarn:
I decided to make something for myself. Fingerless mittens and a hat to match:

I used the pattern on the Crystal Palace site for this yarn. This was my first time doing cables as well.

Here they are finished. One is just a tad bigger than the other but that's OK. Here is the hat I made to match. I used Chunky Mochi for the brim and the Sausalito for the rest.

It's folded in quarters. I created my own pattern. Here it is laid out flat:

It was a lot of fun to make and now I have pretty things to wear next winter.

April: Gryffindor Wide Stripes Scarf

My oldest daughter wanted a Gryffindor scarf in wide stripes to match her hat.  Here are the pictures:

This is the in progress one.  It really went quickly.  And the completed project:

I think it turned out nicely.

March: Felted Spring Bag Finished

I finished this up weeks ago but am finally posting it now.  I used about 400 yards of felting wool plus the carry-along of the eyelash.  Finished pictures:
pre-felted

post-felting
It is on the big side but it is very colorful and pretty.

Casting on for March

I cast on for March on Sunday and started working on a stained glass purse.  This is where you carry novelty yarn along with your wool and then felt it.  I am using fun fur in pastels.  I have so much of this stuff and this seemed to best way to get rid of it.  Here is the beginning:

It's all Easter egg colors so I am calling it the "Easter egg" purse.

February Projects Done

I finished up both my projects for February this week.  I finished the undulating rib socks in alpaca on Sunday:
laid out flat

on my daughter's feet

These took up 272 yards of yarn.  My daughter likes them on the short side.  These are really on the long side for her.

And I finished up my first towel in the moss grid stitch pattern.  I used 285 yards of cotton yarn.
I love how the colors pooled into darts across the fabric.

February Project: Undulating Socks

For February, I am making a pair of socks out of Alpaca yarn for my oldest daughter.  I found an awesome pattern in a book called Undulating Rib and I really like it plus it was easy to do.  Here are pictures of the start of the socks:
and on the foot:
I almost have the first sock done.  The pair will probably come in a little under 350 yards so I also have a cotton towel started to cheer up my dryer and keep it clean:

January Project is Done!

I finished the Harry Potter Year 3-4 small sized scarf.  It was just over 650 yards worth of yarn, all done in k1 p1 ribbing.  We decided against the fringe (I hate doing fringe) and my daughter was OK with that.  She just wants to wear the scarf.  It took me about 2 hours to weave in all the loose ends from the gold yarn.

Pictures:
And as it looks laid out on the table in waves:
Now I am off to make something for me.

First Project of 2011

My girls have been wanting their own matched sets of hats, scarves, mittens & socks in Gryffindor colors.  I made the hats in December and am now working on the first scarf in small stripes.  I am making the small scarf and even in the 1 by 1 ribbing it takes up most of my 14 inch long needles.  There will be 14 sets of stripes plus an extra burgandy when it is all done.

I really enjoy seeing everyone else's projects.
