finished little mitts

I finished my lacy mitts, and have cast on a leaf shawl for my mom, but doubt it'll be done by Wed...

Holiday Project Finished - Noro Striped Scarf

Finished my Noro striped scarf. I am really happy with how this turned out. Although the yarn is pricy the results are very good. I used four skeins of Noro to complete the project - about 420 yards. 6" x 75". I think it looks great and has gotten some nice looks and compliments when out wearing it.

Holiday Project Finished - Mom's Christmas Socks

OK finally finished my Mom's socks for Christmas this morning. These are the Spring Forward pattern and I used Berocco Sox Metallic about 350 yards or so. These were my first attempt at a pattern sock and went really well. I think she will love them.

rules for the holiday (or not) kal

just a reminder that you do need to post a progress picture of your project to the blog sometime during your knit for your project to count.

if you are using a ufo which is 50% or less completed, you will need to post a picture of the ufo in its current state of "unfinishness" for your project to count.

the complete short list of rules is over on the side bar.

Holiday KAL

I ended up finding a seasonal job, so I ended up knitting mostly small things instead of the bigger projects I had planned. I'll get to them eventually!

A Thursday Cowl, out of Cascade 220. This was such a quick knit that the only WIP photo I have is when it was being lightly blocked
Traveling Woman Shawl, Crystal Palace Panda Cotton Print.
WW2 Watchcap, out of Wool-Ease for my Dad. This has become my go-to patten for guy gifts.

A Poppy Hat out of Caron Simply Soft for my newest cousin.

Arwen Cloche Hat, using some vintage wool/acrylic yarn that I dyed with Kool-Aid and food coloring.

52 Week Challenge - November

With the cold days coming I decided to knit a pair of Berties for me. My stash showed some cashmere in grey (yes, I love all shades of grey!) winking at me and so it was a joy to finally knit my old pattern once again after years. Here is the progress pic:

Now they are finished and it´s cold outside and cashmere definitely is a fiber that keeps your fingers warm. Just in time.

Holiday Kal

This is a package that I sent in the Worldwide Christmas Stocking Swap. My partner was Rose from Independence in Kentucky. I had to wait with posting this one, as my camera crashed in the past month - and on that camera were my photos of this stocking. She received it yesterday - it took 3 weeks to get there.

I did knit the stocking in October/November, hope it can participate in the Holiday KAL

this is it for me!

one last project done!

forever and a day
my design for an "infinity" scarf/cowl that will live on after the craze is over

lots of slipper sock gifts

Arwen slipper socks for gifts from alpaca dyed with Wilton's food coloring. I made 2 other pair and can't find the pics of them, but same pattern. Already gifted and being enjoyed. :)

November 52 week entry

I was hoping to have this blocked before posting, but need to post for November's entry so it will appear in the future dyed and blocked when space and weather permits. This is Jared Flood's Girasole blanket and he says 1800 yds required. I used our friend's alpaca 8 ply in natural fawn color. Wonderful pattern and clearly written.

At the finish line..........

I'll start with my starts. My dil loved this yarn. I won it on the Yarn Crawl (a most wonderful weekend in the spring when 23 yarn shops from south of Seattle to the Canadian border all get on a list. We fiber nuts try to go to everyone). This is a Noro no longer available. My own pattern like you can see I know.
My knitting legacy will be she knitted socks and clogs. Well from my eyes more but family and friends that is what I am know for. I was asked for green clogs so here are the start of them.
These next 2 pair of clogs........If anyone remembers the Shawl I did for a friend that needed a hug. She had given me some yarn and I made the shawl and....now clogs for her and her husband. I used the same yarn Knit Picks Memories...Fly Fishing but on this pair a brown
and this pair a blue for the other strand. I plan on giving these to them tomorrow. I know times are tough in her world right now and I just hope this brings a smile and some warmth to her life.

My dil, wanted some fingerless mitts. I casted on Fetching from Knitty. Made a few of these over time.

Drummmm roll, finished items........... Yes, every year I do take pictures of my knitting with my rather small..(ha ha) Christmas Cactus. This will bloom long after Christmas. Started blooming mid November.

I finally did something just for me...me ....me. I so love these elf slippers. I love wearing them and the jingle bell making noise with every step. They fit just perfect, I was worried as we have a front load washer and I felted them a bit too small and had to stretch them out. They fit like a second skin. The start picture........
I plan on wearing them to the Christmas parties we host at our house if I don't wear them out by wearing them all the time. If you are in the neighborhood stop by.

My next cast-on will be this afternoon. A group of us knitters are making an afghan for the Lakewood Police Guild. This has squares for each police officer that was killed last Sunday. The Police Guild gave info (after calling and telling them what we were doing) for each officer so each officer's square(s) will be special. If this one afghan goes like we hope, then each family will also receive one.

I am so touched to be able to be a part of this, I am watching the mailbox for the package of yarn, needles ready, so I can start. Hope I can get pictures of the final afghan to show.

Moonchild Socks

Adrienne, I love the socks - just beautiful! Thanks for the wonderful pattern. I used size 2 dpn on most of the leg but when I got to the foot I switched to a size 1. They fit great and I really love the gradual slope of the toe. Yahoo... I finally finished! The yarn is Dream in Color Smooshy sock yarn in Beach Fog. At least I finished one item for the Holiday KAL. Now on to the next project... :) Happy Knitting to all, and to all a good night. Renee' aka yoyosocksister

Holiday KAL project & 52 week KAL progress

Well, I managed to finish ONE project for the Holiday KAL! But, knowing that the deadline was approaching did give me the motivation to finish so I'm glad I participated.

It's folded in half to fit in the picture:
Project: Prayer Shawl
Cast on: 10/3/09
Finished: 11/29/09
Yarn: Lion Brand Homespun - Wild Fire (about 2 and a half skeins)
Needles: US 11

I am making progress on the fair isle vest that I've been knitting off and on since July:

This may be my December 52 week KAL project if I don't also manage to finish the Miss Marple socks I am knitting. I'm really hoping to finish both!!

My third finished project

The improvised socks went really quickly. Here they are:

I used Briggs & Little Tuffy in 'Cocoa' and 4mm DPNs. It's my first attempt at improvising anything more complicated than ribbing, and I'm mostly happy with how they turned out (although I have my doubts about the cuff).

granddaughter's stocking

Here's the cute teddy bear stocking for my granddaughter completed

Taos hat and red scarf

Here's my Taos Hat, and the scarf for the Red Scarf project

Sunday, November 29, 2009

Hi, here are my totals for the November 52 week and holiday KAL. I made the black cowl (about 100 yds and 370 yds of Homespun Tudor) and the prayer shawl. I may go and increase the prayer shawl when I see in with it's new owner. The color is more correct on the computer picture. She has been in the hospital for 3 months. Please pray for Kim and her two boys. She is much larger than me but I know she has lost at least 50 lbs. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I am going to my families home today to celebrate.

xxoo,

Jody
