So, my niece was expecting a baby in August. And I did become overcome by a huge urge to knit for the baby. And new mom too. I made socks and hat for baby, and socks for mom. But then a friend said her daughter-in-law was expecting her second child in November. No problem, I thought. Surely I could knit several pieces of a baby set (pants, socks, hat, sweater, blanket). This was my thinking back in August. My friend didn't get the yarn untill the end of September. No problem. Surely I can knit the pants and another piece before the baby is born, right? Ha, ha. Not quite. Second baby was born around Thanksgiving (USA) and I finished the pants yesterday. I blame it on baby fumes :)
my rav project page
yarn: heritage solids by cascade yarns, 116g = 507yds
P.S. fingering weight yarn + baby pants = still a lot of stitches (doh) P.P.S. why, yes. that is a leather grain look counter top in my kitchen, lots of interesting texture (what were they thinking?? grr)

Early for June
These booties will be part of a set but they were enough to give me enough finished yardage for June. Used 10g of yarn (54 yds). Rav page for set . The pattern was written for straights. I changed it a bit so I could do it in the round = no seams, yeah. Much quicker that way. Started and finished today.

garter fun
First item is an elephant that used 34g of yarn for knitting = 156yds. Used Serenity sock yarn. Started back on January 16th. Pattern in an online copy of Australian newspaper found through rav. Got sidetracked with all kinds of stuff but finally finished it March 31st. I made this for my 9yr old daugher who loves elephants. Her verdict is love at first sight :) My elephant project on Ravelry.
Second item is a pair of fingerless mittens for my 11yr old daughter. This was a big hit with her, AND her classmates. Used 32g of knitpicks essential sock yarn = 147yds. Pattern my own, just garter st rectangle with thumb gusset made sideways, slip stitch crochet closed. mittens on rav Total yards for finished objects in March 156 + 147 = 303yds. My 2011 projects so far, rav link to things I started in 2011 and hope to finish in 2011.

Fish tails and socks - progress
I participated in the Rodekool Brioche Scarf KAL too. (rav project page) Even the same color of Mini Mochi (neptune) as Lorraine. My scarf took a little less than 1 skein, so about 193 yds. Needles US 5 (3.75mm). Started it Jan 1st, finished Feb 10th.
This was an easy/hard(@#^&) scarf. It's a four row repeat and I just couldn't get the hang of the first row till almost the end. And separating for the ribbed section messed me up both times. The 2nd -4th rows were a breeze. My 9yr old model loves it.
The second project are a pair of toe-up socks I'm teaching. It's interesting how several people can have the same idea at about the same time.
I came up with this pattern on my own after knitting some regular top-down heel flap socks. It involved a lot of frogging. At the time I couldn't find any patterns with this construction, but now I'm starting to see this construction in some published patterns.
These socks are in Panda Superwash, color leaf shades, needles US 1 1/2 (2.5mm). Hope to have them done before the end of the month.
