Another Project Started

I started another project the other day. I'm knitting mittens for my 7 year old daughter who has informed me that the mittens I knit her last year no longer fit. It's getting cold here in Montana and we've already seen snow so warm mittens are a must. I'm using the Elegant and Easy Cable Mittens pattern from 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders and the yarn is Plymouth Galway Paint. I'll make another pair of lightweight mittens for her to wear inside these for extra cold days and if I have enough yarn I'll make a matching hat and scarf.

Progress...

Here's a progress photo of my Panda Cotton Mystery sock:
and a new project that I started yesterday, an illusion knitting Christmas tree dishcloth:
You can just start to see the bottom of the Christmas tree:
Thanks to whoever on this blog posted about this pattern first!! It was great inspiration! I've been wanting to try illusion knitting and this is the perfect little project to try it out and knit a Christmas gift at the same time!

One pair socks finished

A progress photo of the second sock, just before the toe decreases were made. Alexa's pair of socks came ready. I measured the yarn that was left... I used exactly 300 yards. On to the next project.

2 down 5 to go!

My first two Christmas presents are done.

I made the Jacques Cousteau hat for my 19 yo brother who does a lot of running in mornings and evenings. I wanted something that he could wear to keep his ears warm while he runs.
The hat is really simple mostly just a 2x3 rib. The decreases at the top make the ribbing spiral. I used 227 yards of Knitpicks Swish DK in Charcoal.

Oops, Just Kidding. The hat doesn't count for this. I made it before October 1st. I forgot. The scarf does count.

The second present is for my MIL. It is the Tiger Eyes Lace Scarf using Madelinetosh Sock in the Baltic colorway. I used 264 yards. This was a nice quick knit, interesting, but not too complicated. I am planning on making one for myself soon.

Shelled Socks Done

I finished the shell socks. If I did my meter to yard calculations right, these socks took about 390 yards.

soles and more

Hey there, I started these fingerless mitts this afternoon . . . It is Sensations Soles and More, sock yarn
262 yards per skein but really cool self-striping stuff. The only problem is that you really need to do gauge (bah humbug) to get the pattern working correctly.

At my knitting club on Wednesdays, one of the women is making a baby sweater out of this stuff.

Puppies ready for adoption and other fo's.

Above are the starts to projects finished. They went very fast. Started Oct 9 finished today.

Calorimetry A head scarf for those that have long hair and do not like hats. Never had made one but going through my stash found the yarn and thought why not. When I make it again I will cast on 8 fewer stitches as it is a bit big. Took another 100 yards of yarn out of my stash. One would think after all this there would be a dent. But, no not yet. This will be a present for my daughter.
Husband's socks. Every once in a while if I make my husband a pair of socks, my stash does not get questioned. House socks or boot socks. These took 200 yards. Briggs and Little Tuffy yarn. I have heard this yarn wears like steel. Yarn is kinda hard on the hands. But, a quick knit after frogging them twice to get a gauge then size I wanted.
Big Sister to the puppies below. I was asked to make these for a young gal. Her feet grew really fast at a very young age and she missed the cute slippers. These are a size 13 womens. Dang big. I so hope she likes them.
More Puppies ready for adoption. I had a lot of fun making these. Faces are needle felted. One pair is going to the same family as the big sister above. The other pair to a good friend. I took about 4 patterns and blended them into one. The Big sister took a lot of math. All together this puppy family took 850 yards. Being that I did not know how they would turn out I am happy with them. I hope their new adopted family love them. They are all planned on being gifts. Hope they are box trained and stay quiet until ready. Tried to teach them manners.

Oh darn now I need to start a new project. Going stash diving.

WoW!!! Thanks!

Thanks for the cool yarn PRIZE! I got 3 balls of Merino 5 in Red Cinnamon! Can't wait to get it! I don't have it yet, but when I do, I have a project for it that I can't wait to start: I want to knit these Genome socks. I found them on ravelry and the yarn is Merino5 Red Cinnamon!!! Gorgeous!!! This picture is a photo from ravelry from the projects list under Genome socks....... Aren't they beautiful??

My first finished project

I needed 58 grammes, this corresponds to 270 yards

KATIE'S FIRST EVER BLANKET!!!!!!

Hi, This post is for my daughter Katie. It is her first project! She is so excited. It has moved from being for her stuffed animals to a cat blanket. As you can see Maggie loves it!!!!! She used Homespun yarn and knit aprox. 100 yds (I think.) I need to go to the store for a final check on the yardage (sorry.) She lost the label. Her next two projects are a scarf and wrist-warmers.

Yeah Katie,

Love Mama

finished items

Hi, everyone. Hope the weather is nice where you are. We are having our first cold snap. I need to knit more and faster! I finally finished my hat. Completed it twice and loved it after I ripped it our to the crown. I used 150 yds and it has a ribbed edge I made up after finishing the bear scarf and wrist warmers I already posted. I second is a wrist-warmer that will be 1/2 crocheted and 1/2 knit. The third is a baby blanket for new babies in my church. i love this color for girls and boys. The last is a ripped sock that I don't think I have the ability to do (viking sock.) I found another pattern that I will try on this. Can you see my cat's paw trying to play with it?
Have a blessed week!

First Candy Corn Bag Done!

One down (minus the I-cord handle) and one to go! I should get the second one finished this next week. I decided to wait until both bags were finished before doing the I-cord in case I ran short on yellow yarn. My niece and nephew should have the bags in plenty of time for Halloween Trick-or-Treating.

The pattern called for equal width stripes of color, but I made the orange section larger and the white section much smaller so that it looks more like the candy.

Fidget in Progress

I started this 'Fidget' (neck warmer) yesterday. I'm knitting it with a luscious yarn - Araucania, a hand dyed wool/alpaca/silk blend. It's not as bulky as I thought it would be, so I cast on extra stitches - 23 instead of 17, to get the width.

purple sock finished

I weighed this and it was exactly 30 gms of 50 gms ball which is "approx 105 metres" on the label. This means each sock would take about 63 meters or almost 69 yards or 138 yds for the pair.

favorite sock

Lorna's shepherd sock yarn in Devon colorway. Anne Hanson's "sock pattern to end all sock patterns". I make a 3" cuff and have a short foot (US size 6) and can make a pair out of one skein which is 215 yards with a yard leftover.

Purple socks

Isabelle sock pattern using overdyed Merino Magic yarn by Heirloom (Australian). It is machine washable 100% wool. This will be a gift for my cousin who loves purple.

New to the KAL

Hi, everyone! I'm a new kid on the block (thanks to Adrienne for sending me this way), so I thought I'd start with an update post on what I've been working on so far.

First up is a neckwarmer that I knit and finished; it's probably going to go to my SIL for Christmas.
That's it blocking this morning (even though I finished it last week). This is knit from Shivaya Naturals Peruvian Alpaca; I used about half the skein, so 150 yards. The pattern is one of Anne Hanson's that I was test-knitting; it hasn't been released yet. I'll probably knit another one for myself from the rest of the skein (this yarn is fabulous). This is the only one of my October projects I've finished so far; all the others have what feels like a long way to go (and isn't the point some kind of project completion?).

The next one is a sweater I've started for my husband. This one will take a while, but with luck I'll have it finished for the holidays (maybe even Thanksgiving, if I'm particularly diligent).
It's a much more chocolatey brown than that, but the sun rather bleached it out in the photo. This is the Big Thaw Pullover, knit in the size for a 48-inch chest, using Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton yarn, in the Toffee colorway. I'm about 125 yards in.

And last but not least, I'm working on a pair of socks for someone else, in her handspun merino/angora yarn (it's Bunny Patch, from Newhue Handspun Yarn, in the Oasis colorway).
I'm improvising this pattern myself, and am another repeat in from what you can see in that picture (two kids' soccer games today provided a lot of knitting time -- but they both won!)(that hasn't happened yet this season; it's been a rough one). I'm at just about 100 yards on these socks so far, and getting ready to end the leg and work my way down the foot.

So, there they are. I've also cast on for a scarf that I'm knitting for a friend out of my own handspun, but as I'm less than 25 yards in, I'll hold off on posting about that one for next time (although I suppose that would bring my grand total up to 400 yards, but is it 100 yards per project as a minimum, or units of 100 yards overall?). Meanwhile, I've promised myself that there will be no more casting on until something has been cast off. Of course, there's always spinning to be done...

Completed Projects

Hi all! Here is my first post of completed projects: 2 dishcloths and a mini sweater.
I'd say my yardage for these projects is about 150 yards.

The mini sweater is for a co-worker who is celebrating her 10-year anniversary at our company. I added the 10 to the sweater with beads.
