More for Me!

I posted earlier about these mittens. (Details on February 1) They took 196 yards of worsted weight wool and are my own design. Of course, they match my coat. I wore it to the yarn store.

By them selves, they are not enough yardage. Then I remembered the KAL on Ravelry. We did/are doing a two color brioche scarf from Knitty called Rodekool. Yarn called for is CPY Mini Mochi.

I ran short on yarn, frogged back, still was a little short, was able to get yarn from someone else, and I finished about January 30 for the final time. 195 yards of yarn.

Yarn: CPY Mini Mochi in Neptune Rainbow
Needles: US #5/3.75 mm

Originally, I had bought another yarn, because I don't have local access to Mini Mochi. Decision was made to knit the scarf in that yarn also. I'm not sure who will wear the scarf, it may become a gift. One yarn is Jojoland Melody superwash. The other is Aussi Sock. The pattern is tricky, so I decided to knit it again while I remembered the tricks.

Just for Me

It's all about me and I don't have enough yardage yet. I do have warm hands, however. I had worn out the mittens that went with my winter jacket, and bought yarn last spring. Finally, I made time for me. They're finished and I used up about 196 yards of yarn. Worsted weight yarn knits up much faster than sock yarn.

I'll give details here, while I remember.
Pattern: my own, with elements from a number of places
Yarn: Aussi Wool in amethyst and rose bay, with the fuzzy part a combination of Bernat Sox in pink hot and Bernat Boa in doo doo bird.
Needles: US #4/3.5 mm for the cuffs and US#5/3.75 mm for the hands.

Knitting time about i week (Jan. 20 -28, 2011)

I'm working on a cotton crochet bath mat, which will certainly add enough yardage to count for this challenge.

Things look better

The blue socks, which are my January Prime Time project, will be finished in time. The LYS has my yarn back from NYC. I'll pick it up when they open. The pattern is Niagara by Janel Laidman. The yarn is Claudia Hand Paints. I added one repeat to the width of the leg and two repeats to the length. I should run out of yarn just before the toe on this sock.

I have one mitten finished for ME, Me, Me. It looked like this yesterday.

January Progress - all challenges

Prime Time: blue socks, will be finished if I can get more yarn. My LYS took it all to New York this weekend. I made the socks wide and the leg longer and ran out half way through the first toe.

Me, Me: Mittens, which I badly need and a cotton bath mat from One Skein by Leigh Radford. I hope that it's enough yardage.

More Holiday Knitting

#1 Stocking and Mittens

The stocking is for my great grandson. It's #28 in th4 family series. I used worsted weight acrylic, knit on #5 needles. It used about 185 yards. I also knit 2 pairs of mittens for grandkids, totaling about 150 yds for both pairs. Worsted weight wool knit on #4 needles.

I showed a progress picture for the stocking, The mittens went too fast. Also, it's winter here and the light is not good.
Project #2

I thought I showed progress photos for this one, but here they are. The pattern was an Advent gift by Stephanie van der Linden. It's part of her Advent calendar.

This was my first time doing TAAT. It worked well for the legs, but the feet decrease on the top of the foot, while increasing on the bottom. I finally gave up and used 2 circulars per sock.

More August Finishes

I finished two scarves. The green one was started in January and saved for times when I needed easy knitting. A shop hop trip with my guild provided the time for finishing. The yarn is Noro Matsuri. I also finished my Swiss Cheese scarf. This was a guild KAL, using a rayon blend cone yarn that I bought a long time ago because it was pretty.

My daughter asked for fingerless mitts for running, but she wanted her thumbs covered. The chosen yarn, which has purple in it, is Patons Stretch Cotton Socks. I then used Wool-Ease for short covers for cooler days. I figured that if she is running in even colder weather, she has something else to wear.

A new great grandson will be joining the family in September. He will get a new hat, since he can wear the sweater I knit for his sister. It looks like a tomato. The patter is Ann Norling's Fruit Hat pattern.

Final finish is a pair of Lucy Neatby's Fiesta Feet. They've been on my to-do list for years, and the challenge for the Ravelry SKA was stranded knitting. The feet of these are stranded. Last night someone counted up how many patterns there are on the socks (6). The woman is crazy, but I think we suspected as much.

I have shown in progress pictures for some of these (not the tomato, which was knit in one afternoon), but threw them up here anyway. I already have credit for an August finish. It was a good month for finishing.

Magnificant Mittens

This is another February FO. They are a gift for my daughter in law.

The yarn is a mystery wool inherited from my mother. The lining is cashmere from a cone my LYS owner had. I used clear glass #6 beads. Now to make some for me. The ones I have are growing holes.

Another February project

I've been knitting on a pair of Magnificent Mittens from Anna Zilboorg's book. I've had a pair so long they grew holes. My Dil wanted a pair. These are for her.

I've been on a beading kick recently. The beads on the hand are #6 clear beads. The yarn is a mystery yarn I inherited from my mother. The whole mitten looks like this. I'm lining them in cashmere.

The second mitten is finished. I'm working on the lining. I'll take a picture of both mittens before I put the lining in.

52 weeks challenge - beginnings

Recently the passion for stranded knitting is growing. There are new mittens and finally an old dream on my wish list, socks based on motifs from Simply Socks. They would be my July project. I hope.

Finished the Mittens!! 52 Week Challenge

Today is my oldest daughter's 26 birthday. She requested these mittens to match the scarf and hat that I made her for Christmas. I wasn't sure if I would get these completed, but I did. Just finished and steamed them this morning!!

Now, these fall short of the 350 yard limit, but the important thing to me was that I posted the beginning picture and the finished picture in the time I had given myself to complete these.

I started a new skein of 250 yard yarn, and I didn't even use the entire thing. So, I guess I'm off to find a new project to complete by the end of January that meets the yardage requirement. That's okay--I have plenty of things in the back of my mind just waiting for me to make!

Having this blog has helped me immensely in finishing projects that I start, as well as the birthday deadline!!

how does a pair of socks turn into two pairs and mittens?

Yes, these are supposed to be a pair of socks. What is that you say? They don't match, but it was the same colorway and everything . . . so, how does a pair of socks become two pairs of socks?

So I left the sock that I was working on for Zachariah at home. No big deal except that I was going to be gone for four days. Not to despair, I had brought the other skein and needles and started on the second sock. They don't match. So, he is going to end up with two socks.

But wait, there's more . . . I worked the election as a poll worker and took my "new sock" with me and got to where I needed to do the heel. Not bad. I will take it with me to my knit group gathering on Wednesday. Gee, do I want to be turning the heel and talking at the same time? Noooooo.

But wait, there's more . . . So I took Jelly Beans in Magic Stripes and am going to make Lindsey either mittens or gauntlets.

So, there you have it. That is how one pair of socks turns into two and a pair of gauntlets, or maybe mittens . . .

Mittens Complete

I finished my daughters mittens the other day.

The multi colored pair are made out of Plymouth Galway Paint and used approx 130 yds. The purple mittens are made out of The Unique Sheep Foot Prints sock yarn and I used approx. 100 yds. It gets cold & windy here so both pair worn together will give the extra warm need to keep my daughters fingers from freezing while waiting for the bus in the morning. Grand total yardage for all mittens is 230 yards. I used the Elegant and Easy Cable Mittens for the Family found in the book 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders. I followed the same pattern for the purple mittens but I omitted the cable. I didn't think it was needed since the purple mittens are to be worn inside the other mittens.

I'm still working on the bamboo socks for my daughter and the Errant socks for my mom. I'll be starting a baby blanket for my cousin who is due in December.

Another Project Started

I started another project the other day. I'm knitting mittens for my 7 year old daughter who has informed me that the mittens I knit her last year no longer fit. It's getting cold here in Montana and we've already seen snow so warm mittens are a must. I'm using the Elegant and Easy Cable Mittens pattern from 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders and the yarn is Plymouth Galway Paint. I'll make another pair of lightweight mittens for her to wear inside these for extra cold days and if I have enough yarn I'll make a matching hat and scarf.
