tour de france

Hi, Finished this right as the last stage ended. Katie made up the pattern! You can see an alternating K2P2 rib and knit rows. This was so much fun. I loved the red/white and blue colors but too short for my toes. She wanted them to not match on purpose. Made me nutty but they are hers for school! Now to finish the 52-wk scarf. Almost done with the palindrome scarf and loving the color. Jody

Girasole progress

My 8 weeks of asthma finally calmed down enough to let me work on this alpaca (allergy to it) blanket that I started a few months ago. I was concerned about how to do the edging, but once I ignored the chart and just followed the word instructions it was easy. All the other charts were excellent and I zipped through this project. I'm using the 8 ply natural fawn colored yarn from our friend's alpaca farm, "Quanden Springs". I love knitting with this yarn and can hardly wait to block the blanket. It has been great to have on my lap during the winter here. The pic doesn't do it justice, but I couldn't wait to show you my break from socks for a while. I do plan to finish the green Bamboo pair for August. :)

Finished Tour de France Socks

I finished a pair of socks for the Tour de France. I don't think I will get another pair in before the deadline.

TdF Nation´s category

Then there are the socks in our nation´s colours black, red and gold. I used a tweed yarn for black and spun some additional (but tiny:-)) golden flecks into it. They can be seen at the heel which I like so much because of the pin stripes that follow the construction throughout the sock. May I say that I had to fight knitting to and fro with two colours (under the heel, attaching the sole)? I was so happy when that was over!
That´s it for today.

TdF KAL Green Jersey

These are the socks made of the olive green yarn I dyed for this KAL. They are pretty easy and will be for a family member who likes that colour very much to go with a khaki pair of trousers.
Category is the green jersey category (for the one who managed to win the most points for sprinters (Hushovd?)).

Yay!

Oh boy, oh boy! I just saw in the header to this blog that there is a mystery sock KAL planned for September! Can't wait!!

:-)

Cathy's July 52 week update

I finished the Flora hat so this can be added to my July projects for the 52 week challenge!
07.25.09 002

Pattern: Flora
Yarn: Knit Picks Shine Worsted - Sailor and Grass
Cast on: 7/7/09
Finished: 7/24/09
Yardage estimate: 100 yards

Cast on post for this project (and the rest of my July projects) is here.

I also started a new project which has been a lot of fun to knit (once I got to the fair isle part):

07.25.09 001

This is the Fair Isle Vest from the Fall 2007 issue of Knit Simple magazine. The yarn is Tatamy Tweed DK.

I need to get moving on the mystery sock pattern because I want to finish those for August!!

TdF KAL - Bergtrikot

Here are my socks for the mountain winner category: They are striped throughout, knit toe-up and I did not succeed in embroidering a bike on the bigger red stripe. I tried several but was not satisfied with the results. No nerves left to try it again. As they are for me there might be another attempt one day.

The finished products

Thanks again for a fun KAL....it kept my interest, refueled my knitting interest AND kept me moving on that bike when I thought I just couldn't ride it one more mile. You guys are the best.

I am loving the socks I'm seeing riding across the finish line!

I've lost my mind...but that really isn't a shocker.

I lost my ever living mind...so bear with me, the explanation is coming. It still may not make sense, but it's mine, it made sense to me at the time and I will defend my insanity until the very end. I decided not only to participate in the Tour KAL, but I thought I'd make as many pairs representing the different jerseys as possible. Now, not every pair met qualification. The green pair meet regulations (and anti-doping says that it tested clean as well) Meets all criteria. It's my entry for the Tour de France Kal.....I'm not sure if it's going to be named Mark Cavendish or Thor Hershov (I just killed his name, sorry Thor, but I'm tired and I am NOT surfing the answer tonight. Maybe Monday.)

The rest of the socks are collectively my entry for the July Kal. In there is the We are the World flag socks (and yes, I started those right after MJ died - I really thought I was clever there for a moment, now I find it cheesy, but it is what it is) The plain white pair apperar to be the Andy Schleck socks, the white with red beads are Pilotti (again, name massacare) and the teal pair with gold beads are Team Astana Rolling Thunder (rolling thunder being the name of the pattern). The shades aren't quite right, but that was my intent as I knit them along. There will be no yellow. I frankly ran out of time. I am spending all weekend at an outdoor swim meet, and I'm not going to mess up some great yarn I ordered just to finish in time. Meanwhile, most of the knitting was, in face, in front of Versus' coverage of the Tour. I also challenged my slim and trim challenged body to ride my exercise bike 10% of the race distance....on level 1 (little resistance). I'm pretty sure I have my mileage done as well, so what can I say, this is a great weekend.
The finished photo is to follow.

Night all!
the crazy one :D

Green socks are ready

This pair is mine, and mine only. They came ready today when watching the start of today's stage of the Tour. The yarn used in this pair is Knit Picks Bare, dyed in Green Tea; 360 meters were used. Pattern idea is mine.

My sock for the Tour de France - it's actually red, white and blue, although the red is showing up more brown. Anyway, it's yarn I had in my stash and I think it's probably Lion Brand. I'm not a great sock knitter, and as you can see this is just a 'vanilla' top down sock knit using magic loop, although I am using dpns for the heel.

Tour de France KAL - beginnings

A girl has to meet some challenge. See my start into socks with our national colours. Two weeks to go for finishing them and the mountain socks and the yellow socks. Oh my... But this is all fine with me as I tend to "forget" a second sock. At least I rarely do two socks of the same pattern, but two or even three socks from the same skein, but without the boring duplicate knitting. Then I wear two socks of different patterns, but from the same skein. So far, only few noticed.

52 weeks challenge - beginnings

Recently the passion for stranded knitting is growing. There are new mittens and finally an old dream on my wish list, socks based on motifs from Simply Socks. They would be my July project. I hope.
