June KAL

So I have three projects for this month. I have a felted hand bag. This used up my remaining two skeins of wools yarn I had. I made a yarn doily because it is what my mother-in-law wanted. and finally I made a crocheted reversible cable scarf. I really like how this turned out. I recycled the yarn from a vest that did not fit well and used it for the scarf.

I know Adrienne is modest and wouldn't be sharing this news with the group, but I'm grinning ear to ear and know you'd all like to send her your congrats. I had written to her about frogging the start of the Jasmine scarf due to a couple of major errors (needle size and picot CO flub) and she wrote back and sent the following regarding her entries in the Alameda county fair:

My lovely package of Mini Mochi came yesterday!! It is color 123-Brandied Apricots and I love it. The colors aren't true in this picture but they are luscious. Now for the perfect project. Thanks so much for the great prize and I really enjoy seeing everyone's projects. So many neat pieces.

Early for June

My rav project page Artichoke pattern, in Panda Silk (about 1.4 skeins = 285.6 yards). Beads from Joanns. I started on May 27, 2011, finished on June 24, 2011.

These booties will be part of a set but they were enough to give me enough finished yardage for June. Used 10g of yarn (54 yds). Rav page for set . The pattern was written for straights. I changed it a bit so I could do it in the round = no seams, yeah. Much quicker that way. Started and finished today.

Purple Rain

New Project for KAL -- but I am not sure if it will be finished this month!!

I am calling it..."purple rain". It is based on the pattern (free from Ravelry) Shizuku by Angela Tong Designs. She says "Shizuku means drops or tear-drop shape in Japanese. This scarf is knit from side to side with the droplets knitted along one side. The droplets are made with short row shaping." I am making this out of Taos #19 --- which is purple-y. I have 2.5 balls to work with, about 320 yds, and am using #10s. If I finish this up with yarn to spare, I may make a matching hat...fringe and all! This is a gift for my daughter who is a chef at Foreign Cinema in San Francisco.

June Prime Time

I'm lazy. I finished this on June 10 (perhaps before that), and I'm only posting it here now even though it's in my other blog already. =D

This is the Summer Mystery Shawlette by Wendy D. Johnson and it is the first mystery shawl that I ever finished right on schedule! It was knit on size 5 needles with Knit Picks Palette in Tidepool Heather and it came out to just over 300 yards (about 304 yards) for a qualifying knit for this KAL. :)

Prime time part 2

A pair of socks in Mini Mochi. Started with Judy Becker's cast on, created my own style heel up to the cuff.Russian bind off was used for a flexible cuff. Wietse's feet size - he loves them! I did not know though that my camera had such a cute features for images!

Een paar sokken in Mini Mochi. Ben begonnen bij de teen, en heb daar de opzet van Judy Becker voor gebruikt. Ik heb mijn eigen variant hiel gebruikt en na het breien van het boord de Russische afkantmethode gebruikt. Het is Wietse's maat, en hij vindt ze prachtig. Ik wist alleen niet dat mijn camera zulke leuke foto's kon maken.

Together with the first pair I made - for your convenience I pasted the images below..., I have used two balls of Mini Mochi in total.

June Projects

And a friend of mine had some good news and so I decided to make a baby kimono:

This yarn is so soft and nice to work and it is perfect for making baby stuff. Here is the completed set of kimono and hat:

It took all three skeins to make the set. And to round it out I also made some more dishcloths in the moss roses color of this yarn.

I love working with Cotton Twirl. It is a really nice yarn.

Joyette started

I started another Joyette for myself using a DK wt cotton I've had for about 25 years. I just came across it recently and knew right away what I wanted to knit with it. :) I'll probably finish this next month since I'm also doing the Jasmine scarf KAL + knitting a pair of socks for Fred's birthday. Good thing I've had a lot of insomnia lately...

snail mail sur-PRIZE

2011 Prime Time! June project

SIMPLE GREEN CARDIGAN










A simple, lightweight cardigan...the pattern is Neckdown V-Neck shaped cardigan by Diane Soucy. The DK weight yarn will make it perfect for year 'round wear. (It's always fun to see a wrinkled mess become something lovely after blocking! LOL!!)

Yarn: Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool - 1536 yards/400 grams
Needles: US6/4.00mm

June Burnt Toast Primetime

I finished a lot of little things in June, but this is my biggie: a honeycomb brioche .. um shawlie? Mega-kerchief? Pointy scarf? It's quite long enough, and I really like the dimensions, I'm just really not sure what to call it (this is why I do not publish my designs). Whatever it's called, it makes me think of burnt toast.



It's over 300 yards of cashmere and cotton, dyed in my oven (that big brown thing on the couch is the dyed blank). I loved working on this.

Sausalito/Jasmine Scarf KAL on Rav

Prime Time June

I've been working on a little shawl/scarf from Plymouth Zino, a color blocking sock yarn. Here's where it was a day or so ago.

The square is the center back. It's one of these "I wonder what would happen if..." projects

Bleeding Hearts for June!

Mods: Decreased 2 stitches on back of leg after last twisted ribbing row so the heel wouldn't be so baggy.

Tangled up in Blue Hitchhiker

Tangled Up in Blue Hitchhiker -- I loved this project.

(this is my daughter Brooke!!)

I used some sportweight Mardi-Gras (1 skein - 350 yards) on size 6 needles.

Instead of the usual 42 "teeth", I stopped at 32. By then, it was 58" long and 11" wide---Very wearabe.

I would recommend this pattern -- fun and fast in the bulkier yarn!

Prime Time - June

I opted to try a thinner yarn for Rachel Wilson's Magic Mystery Dog pattern. The CPY Maizy is stretchy enough to make me happy with the fit.

The all knits and purls pattern was definitely "carefree" knitting!

Only about 16 grams left from the 2 balls, so these required a bit more than 320 yards.

I am currently working on my first sock design project for the SKA group challenge for June. These will be my Prime Time project for whatever month I end up finishing them! ;-)

I am designing a pair of fair isle socks using Panda Soy in Velvet Blue and Natural Ecru:
I am using Alice Starmore's wonderful fair isle book to help me put together the patterns in the chart. Getting the chart worked out was a challenge, but I love knitting fair isle!! I am working on the leg now, so I should have one finished sock soon.

June Projects

Lots of things to post today. First, I finally finished the Dragon Melody Shawl. This may become my all time favorite. It was easy to knit, although the edging took longer than the entire rest of the shawl. I didn't think I would ever finish it, but when I did it was well worth the effort. It took about 1485 yards of Jojoland Melody Superwash in Blue Dream, a variegated purple to teal. I can't remember whether I posted the progress photo which was taken before starting the edging, so I am posting that along with the finished photo. Please note that the colors in the progress photo are more accurate than the completed photo, where they look very washed out.

I have also started 2 pairs of socks. The first is a pair of Double Tadpole. I loved the Tadpole Socks so much that I am using the pattern again but knitting the pattern on both the front and back of the leg. I am using Schoeller+Stahl Fortissima Mexiko Cotton Stretch in variegated pink.

I also started a pair of plain socks, stockinette with a ribbed cuff, in Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Cotton Top & Top Color. These will look like fair isle, which I love. I can't wait to see how the pattern develops as I knit them.

Prime Time KAL - 6/11 WIP

This month I am making Magic Mystery Dog socks by Rachel Wilson from the 50 Socks/50 States CD. I am using Mountain Colors 4/8's wool in the Sagebrush colorway because I had it in my stash! May not have enough yardage... so it should be interesting. I am also making my grandaughter a scarf with large needles in pink eyelash yarn since the Mt. colors yardage will be short...

I would have added these pics of the gorgeous shawl pin made by bellsisterding's daughter, Karen, but it just arrived today. This was a gift from Ding (Debbie here on our KAL) in memory of Razzle and the workmanship is as lovely as the sentiment behind it. "Razzle's love forever" is inscribed with hearts and it even has a flower like the hollyhocks now sprouting from the seeds we sprinkled on his grave. Contact Debbie on Ravelry (Bellsisterding) if you are interested in getting one of these heirloom quality shawl pins for your special knitting. :) I think the rainbow mini mochi and this pin are perfect together.

25 teeth in -- Size 6 needles -- maxim MardiGras in the Blues.

This is a sportweight yarn -- I have 2 skeins -- total of 700 yds----but I doubt that I will be using all of it. I am going to see how it looks after 1. Thanks to Peacockmom for the inspiration -- it is a really fun project!!
