Prime Time KAL - 8/11 WIP & Finished

I made so many little things this month I was trying to decide the best way to post them.... sorry Adrienne, I posted the first WIP picture on 8/11. First I made a baby hat for my friend's grandbaby from the book Head & Toes by Gwen Steege using size 5 and 6 needles and Knit Picks Merino Style Yarn in Cornflower, Petal and Vanilla. I also made a pair of booties to go with the hat using Saartje's Booties with size 3 needles from Ravelry. I think they turned out darling and hopefully will actually fit at the same time. The hat and booties together are approximately 160 yards...

Another friend is having two grandbabies within 2 weeks of each other so I thought it would be fun to make the Berry Baby Hat by Michele Sabatier from Ravelry for the little girl. I used Cotton Fleece in Wisteria and Holly Green and size 7 and 8 needles. I made the Watermelon Hat by Stephanie McPhee for the boy using the same needles and Cotton Fleece in Barn Red and Holly Green. To add to the fun I made a pair of toddler socks for Berry Baby's big sister using the Wisteria yarn and the Party-Time Lace pattern from Knit a Dozen Socks by Edie Eckman. The two hats and toddler socks weighed over 100 grams so it was at least 215 yards. Had fun with all the little projects!

August Prime Time Entry

This shawl was no fun! The pattern required 350 meters of cotton. The cotton I used was something I had already attempted turning into a sweater, but after using up 1-1/2 balls of the 3 I'd bought, it quickly became apparent it wasn't going to happen. I figured there had to be enough there to make a shawl. There was, but my complaint is based on the fact that the label said there were 550 yards per ball! I've been lied to before, but this is a bit ridiculous. I used more than 2-1/2 balls to complete the shawl. (The yarn was wound onto large cardboard cylinders, so it was all very deceptive.) The shawl was intended for me, but you'll notice it fits my 7-yr-old perfectly...like she needs a shawl! On top of all that, this was the splittiest yarn I've ever worked with. I needed to work in bright light to make sure I was always picking up every single strand of the yarn. Live and learn.

This is pre-blocking. It didn't stretch much when I did block it.

At least the background scenery in these photos is nice. The start is in the Dolomites and the finish was next to the Ligurian Sea. I had a nice vacation despite the dog of a knitting project I was working on.

I finished my ʻĀnuenue Scarf!!

Finally! I finished my ʻĀnuenue scarf in Mini Mochi in Rainbow Tapestry. It took longer than I expected because my beloved kitty, ʻUkulele, died, and I have been too full of grief to knit on it.

I just finished it today at Hawaiian Beanz Coffee Shop in Damascus, Oregon, and thought that Beanz the Bear made a great model for it.

He thought it'd be a great idea to go surfing in it...

2011 Prime Time August project

I wanted something that I could use as a wrap, but which would also keep my lap and legs warm in the car, and my arms and shoulders warm when camping, so I came up with this shawl-wrap-ghan, nicely modeled by my LYS friend Carol.

I wore it the first time this past week when we went camping in the mountains, where it was rather chilly in the evening, and I found that the design needs some reworking. It's not quite long enough in the 'sleeve' area, so I will remove the white, and knit another 8 inches total all around, then add back the white trim. But for now, for August, it's finished!

Yarn: LionBrand Wool Ease 3 skeins, 600 yards
Needles: US 8/5.00mm

August PrimeTime - More Socks!

What else is there but socks??

This month I left my comfort zone only a bit and a knit toe-up pattern, Diamonds and Cables by Wendy Johnson. That little cable up the middle was a real stinker so I was quite happy when my daughter requested short socks.

Knit in the Provence colorway in CPY Panda Soy but a tad short on yardage. I'll be back soon with a small project to fill out the month.

ETA: I left to cast on a pair of baby booties with the remainders, BUT since I'm only short by about 20 yds, I'm posting this August project to fill out this month.

I bought the Panda Soy above for a baby layette but fell in love with this Hobby Horse pattern when I found it. It's just a big 72 st sock knit with worsted weight and felted a bit. Finish work took much longer than the knitting. (Yes, you do see 3 1/2 yds of I-cord. UGH)

Fulled August Primetime

I finished a couple of fulled bags this month: 1 smaller with 200 yards and 1 giant cabled bag with around 1000 yards.

For the smaller bag, I controlled the tension and stitch count so the colors would argyle. The yarn is a bulky green single from Norway.

For the larger bag, I whipstitched the cables before fulling. The cables survived the washing machine, so that gamble paid off. The yarn is from a sweater I frogged.

August Primetime

Here are my progress pictures for August. All were started in July and finished in August. I used size 7 needles and a size G hook. I used Peaches and Cream. Cleckheaton Country, and 3 mystery wool worsted yarns (2 from Goodwill!)
I will post the finished pictures later in the month.

Fair Update

I ended up entering 11 projects at the fair. Three were in Mini Mochi and all three got first place, blue ribbons.  I also entered my Breeze socks made from left-over Maizy with Panda Cotton toes, second place, red ribbon. That's actually the most accurate photo of the sock color. I'm happy with my ribbons :)

Aug KAL

So I have many projects finished for this months prime time KAL. First I have my only knitted project. I saw a woman work on a shadow knitting project at a LYS and thought I would give it a try. I found a checkered dishcloth project on Ralvery and turned it into a hanging towel. It is going to be more for show, because it is made with acrylic yarn and not very absorbent.
So next I have a crocheted cowl, the pattern came off the Simply Soft yarn label.

Next I have a Kindle cover. If you are Dr. Who fan, then you may recognize that the cover is suppose to be the Tardis. I made this as a gift for my daughter and she loves it.

Finally I have a reversible cabled scarf. I was a little disappointed that I did not have enough yarn to make this a f 60 inch scarf, so it is a short scarf.

Mini Mochi Fest

I had two projects for this month -- each with a skein of Mini Mochi.

Tender Heart

This was from the pattern Tender Heart by desiger Annie Lee. I used 1 skein (195 yards) in Tropical Ginger on size 7 CPY needles.
Rav site: Tender Heart

Then I did Annisette

Based on the Shawl Annis
I used 1 skein (195 yds) of mini mochi in Jungle on size 7 CPY circular needles. I only soft blocked -- because I like the way the "collar" rolls and the lace is soft. Mostly, though, I like the color. Rav site: Annisette

2011 PrimeTime August

Ta-dah! These are my socks for August. I really like the pattern and will more than likely make it again, but this time for me.
The pattern and the yarn combined are very stretchy but came out nicely.
The yarn is Panda Cotton, color "Trail Mix".
The pattern is "Muir Woods (California)" from "50 Socks, 50 States".
Needles: size 2's.
These will be a nice Christmas present for my sister and she will absolutely love the colors.

August socks

A toe-up pair for me this time. Gorgeous yarn to work with - Tausendschön in the colourway Valentin, that I swapped with Angeli (Sokkenmuis). Different panel for front and back foot - fun to do! 325 meters are used.

Fair time

Finished my August prime time shawl. In the Storm clouds. It's soaking right now. Then I will block it along with some other things for the county fair which starts this Saturday. The pattern is In the Pink. Used less than 4 balls of Mini Mochi, color storm clouds. About 694 yds.

Finished Sausalito Scarf

I know I have to post this on the CPY site but it is so pretty I thought I'd post a picture here. This is Sausalito in the Fall Herbs colorway. I added a little garter stitch border at the start and finish and zipped it up with a few beads.

Prize from 50/50 KAL

Look at this beautiful yarn I received from Susan for participating in the 50 Socks 50 States KAL. I love the color! THANK YOU SUSAN!!!

Prime Time KAL - 8/11 WIP

Starting this month with a baby hat and booties... I'll send more info when I post the finished pictures. Going to be cute tho'- I think... They won't have enough yardage so I'll be knitting more... but what - I want to knit everything! :)

Prime Time - August

I didn't show the in progress picture earlier. I've had computer access problems due to house renovations.

These socks fit a size 14 foot. My SIL loves hand knit socks, they really fit. This is my own pattern that i will write up eventually, when things settle down.

The finished socks! Patons Kroy for the solid color and Regia Crazy Color for the contrast. Needles 2.5mm & 3.0 mm

In July, I also knit a sweater for my grandson, an Ann Norling pattern.
