52-week for May- yeah

Oh my! I finished my first pair of adult socks with a lacy pattern! I am so excited. Unfortunately they are for Sock Wars IV. So, they went to my target, boo hoo. But, My assasin used a sport weight yarn instead of fingering so she had a misfire and I am still alive. So, I am cleaning the house like a mad-woman trying to make up for the time I spent knitting! I used Cascade 220 almost the whol skein. But, I do not know how to do the yardage. I assume it is enough for May. I will try to find out how to weigh the leftovers for a specific count this week. Yeah, for me maybe I can get one more target before I die a valient death.
Jody

Another finished thing for May.

I haven't finished much this month that was knitted. Three prom dresses took up much of my time. If anyone's interested, they're on my blog.

I did make a toy for our knitting guild toy competition. The toys a donated to charity. I knit this in a week. I do have a progress picture. He's unstuffed and held up by a water bottle. Guild meeting was May 11. I picked this toy because it was easy and cute, in that order. This brings my May total to 308 yds. Maybe I can finish the green socks.

Bags

As a challenge I was given some yarn and was told to make something. Well ended up getting more of the yarn and making 3 bags. Was fun.

52 week challenge

Sock progress: April Ravelry socks
The pattern is Entrelacsocks from Stephanie van der Linden. The Ravelry group rules say that the socks should be finished by May 30 to be eligible for a prize. I don't think I will make it. The yarn is Lana Grossa Meilenweit Cotton. I'd hoped these socks would be mine, but they're coming out a little large. luckily I have a daughter with feet larger than mine.
Finished project
This one was a fast knit and I forgot to take a picture. They are Maine Morning Mitts by Clara Parkes. The yarn is Noro Silk Garden. I made them for my sister.

I'm also knitting a pair of socks for my son-in-law. The pattern is vintage. The yarn is Trekking Pro Natura.
What is slowing progress is a shawl that I'm knitting for a yarn company. No picture of that one.

new here

Hi
I'm new to the blog. I'm going to knit some things for my two grands to be. I've some bamboozle that I'm going to knit a hat and booties to match the blanket I've already knit for No. 2 grand, and also some Cotton Chenille to knit into a hooded blankey/towel for No. 1.

52 Week Challange - Debbie (Grandma 07)

I am using my mini mochi prize yarn to knit a ten stitch blanket for my new grandbaby (due around Thanksgiving). This pattern was a bit tricky to get going, but it is now pretty mindless knitting. A nice change from all the chart reading and keeping careful track of rows I've been doing lately. This photo shows the blanket with almost one ball of yarn knit...love watching the color changes!

Anything Goes project

I love this additional KAL. I think we will all get many more ideas from these shared projects. I started this fingerless mitt yesterday morning (5/22 here) and finished the first one (shown on Fred's hand) this morning. He has not taken it off yet and it is 4PM here as I write this. We've had freezing cold weather and he is patiently waiting for the second one. I used 65 yds of Heirloom Merino Magic 8 ply for this first mitt. So the pair will be 130 yds. I did extend the length by 5 more rows and if I hadn't, I probably could have made the pair with just the one ball. 50 gms has approx 105 m. Pattern is Green Thumb by Diana Foss. Easy to follow and a fast knit. Round 25 has an error at the beginning of the written instructions. Should read K2 instead of K1. I think the chart has no errors.

Oops, late thank you post!

I recieved CPY yarn for Susan just when I took Nathan to the emergency hospital (ear infections are back. Boo,hoo for my little guy.) He is feeling much better today as you can see!I picked two skeins I have not used yet. One Cotton Chenille in Cocoa and a pretty Kid Merino in New Blues. Not sure which pattern for the chenille (I saw an Ann Budd pattern but I only one skein.) I will do the CPY pattern for the cat paw prints scarf for the Merino. My first lacy scarf too. I can not wait to try them both. THANK YOU for the yarn and perfect timing in it's delivery. It made my day. Jody

52-week May

Hi, been super busy and sick family all around. Here are the May totals so far. Women's sock progress and one finished. Air Raid sock pattern by Emily B. Miller for Sock Wars IV. I am Past the ribbing and half of the leg section on the second sock. I hope to get it finished before my assasin kills me! She is in Oregon too, so we shall see. Plus the next traveling scarf section that I will count around August. I am now at one sock in five days! The last socks took a whole month for the pair. Yeah for socks. Still working on the Palindrome scarf. I have really bad needles for cables and it is taking longer than I expected.
I am so looking forward to getting the 50 socks book now. They are all so pretty. Thanks ladies for sharing your skills with new sock knitters. I am off to knit like the wind! Knit on!

Winter Frost socks in time for May

Finished my May project of Winter Frost socks by Brenda Lindsay and really enjoyed knitting this pattern. My friend, Jonna, is a wonderful bobbin lace mentor and I'm happy to say that she is becoming hooked on knitting socks and is knitting this pattern in some Patonyle I dyed. This project took 316 yds of Patonyle that I dyed using Landscape dyes. The color is much nicer than the camera shows. I decided to place the socks on the warm hearts afghan I knit for our 40th anniversary last June. I hadn't realized it was designed by our own Dr. Laura until a few days ago. I think it would make a fabulous wedding present with the hearts. It has not been blocked, but will be after this winter (just beginning this week) is over. Meanwhile it will be enjoyed reading by the fire. Gale force winds today (cat 1 cyclone predicted), lots of rain, hail and the peacocks are looking confused. This is the first winter for the new peachicks. Poor little things are huddled close to the windows. Good time to knit an alpaca afghan since it is nice and warm on my lap. On chart E now and hope to have it finished by our 41st in June.

May set of projects for 52 week KAL

I have finished my May projects for the 52 week KAL:

A skinny Noro scarf, using Brooklyn Tweed's Noro Striped Scarf pattern, but only 2 skeins of Noro Silk Garden (colors 47 and 84).
05.16.09 003

Cast on: 4/10/09 (cast on post here)
Finished: 5/14/09
Yaradge: 220 yards

Circle Cloth dishcloth (pattern here)
05.16.09 001

Cast on: 4/28/09 (cast on post here)
Finished: 5/16/09
Yarn: Sugar 'n Cream in Rosewood and Dark Pine
Yardage: 75 yards

Honeycomb Dishcloth (pattern here)

Cast on: 5/16/09 (This is also the cast on post because this was a quick knit!)
Here's the cast on photo:
05.19.09 001

Finished: 5/18/09
Yarn: Sugar 'n Cream in Sage Green and Grape
Yardage: 75 yards
Front of dishcloth:
05.19.09 002
Back of dishcloth:
05.19.09 003

This is a great pattern once you get the hang of it. It's a little tricky at first, and doesn't look like it's working, but if you're careful and follow it correctly, after a couple repeats it starts to take shape! (I did have to frog and re-start once, but I got it on the second try!!)

Total yardage so far for May: 370 yards - so I earned my "Y"!

I am awaiting the final clue on my Panda Soy mystery socks. It will be posted on Friday and then I need to knit both legs. Not sure yet if this will be an additional May project or slide into June. Here's my progress after clue 2:
05.12.09 007

Clue 3 was turning the heel, which is done on both socks, but I haven't taken a picture!

Meanwhile, while I am waiting for the next clue, I decided to pick up one of my UFO's that I didn't complete during the UFO KAL! The Tofutsies socks are once again in progress...

Knit on everyone!! :-)

Thank you

I received my prize yarn and just had to share. I picked 4 skeins of mini mochi in the Neptune Rainbow colorway. The project has been picked and I just have to go and buy the right size needles so that I can cast on :) Thank you so much to Susan for this generous prize and to everyone who voted for my shawl!

52 Week Challenge - Brenda (Owlsrook)

May has been a busy Month so far and I haven't had much free time to knit, but I have finally managed to start a pair of Ribbed Socks using some Autermann Step yarn from my stash. It has a tweedy look that I like for this plain type socks. They are going to be for me to wear with jeans.

Now my task is to manage to get the pair finished in May if life doesn't get in the way first.

socks done

Catching the early rays of the sun this morning, after a weekend filled with rain... the socks I made for Jouke are done. They turned out very nice and look really warm. He wanted to wear them instantly this morning...but alas... first photo!

Green socks: knit on DPN Us 1 1/2 also known as 2 1/2 mm
Used yarn: Gründl Wolle Marathon Yale (350 meters)

Girasole blanket started

Friends of ours have an alpaca farm and offer 5 ply and 8 ply yarn professionally spun in 2 natural colors, fawn and cream which is 80% alpaca and 20% super fine Merino wool. Fred discovered this at a recent visit to this farm where the alpacas graze next to Noel's private air strip and brought back some "samples" (~300 gm skeins) of each weight and color for me to explore. I became enchanted with all of it and have since fallen in love with this yarn. I started Jared Flood's Girasole blanket in the 8 ply fawn yarn. Fred built me a skein holder so that I don't have to cut any of the yarn or wind into a ball. The yarn was up to the top of the dowels when I started. I just got some more of the yarn since I don't know how much this will take. Pattern calls for 1800 yds of aran wt yarn on 6mm needles. What a joy to knit this pattern which is beautifully written with large charts that are easy to follow. It is logical, interesting and my hands don't hurt even when making 5 sts out of 1 since this follows a previous yarnover and there is room for the new sts without a struggle. While missing out on having a LYS here, knowing these friends and getting the yarn directly from them in an unlimited supply which always matches is magic. I will dye the cream for future blankets or vests planned soon when I have a better idea of how much to dye.

52 Week Challange - Debbie (Grandma 07)

Here are my finished socks for May. The pattern is Glynis by Cookie A. and the yarn is Panda Silk in color 3010. This was a fun pattern to knit...detailed enough that I had to keep an eye on the pattern, but overall not really difficult once I got the hang of SSSK and K3tog.

socks in progress

It is starting to look nice, this sock... and I have decided to knit them up for Jouke. We discussed the foot size yesterday... his foot is 1 inch shorter than mine. But he was clear about his preference: rather a tiny bit bigger as he can grow into it... than perfect size and outgrown within a year or so. LOL!

The yarn, by the way is one I recently bought in Zoetermeer: Gründl Wolle Yale. It is a bit rough, compared to other sock yarns (less flexible), but for socks without patterns it works perfect. He will have warm feet when they are ready for sure.

Round 5

Round 5 of Sock Madness came out. The pattern is Dimpled Diamonds. I knitted these in fibranatura's Yummy yarn.

I was happy to finish these while my DH was still up. So he had the pleasure of snapping the finished picture.

52-week for May

Hi, I am doing a Palindrome scarf that I got on Ravelry. I will definately make it longer though. I like the cables because it is reversable and looks great on both sides. I am using some leftover yarn that I got at the Portland Knit and Crochet show last year. Will write later on other projects I have started and the never ending traveling scarves. It has been a busy last three weeks and I am almost recovered and ready to go again.

52 weeks KAL May update - progress and finished

First part for May is this little hat, that I did yesterday when I had to wait for a very long time.

It is made from a pattern by Ruth Sorensen, who does cool things I love and I had some Estonian wool laying around, very much like Kauni or Evilla, same producer. Estonians seem to prefer woolen to worsted.

There will be a picture again, when the hat is blocked and looks far better than now. I think now it resembles my legs. If I could block them too?

42g = 336m, for a start.

One day later:

O my, correction on this: .42 x NM8/2 =168 m .

The yarn yields 400m/100g, not 800. I couldn´t imagine to have knit so many meters in that time and had a more closely look at my figures. So sorry, but there will be enough meters to show for this month :-)

Another win for warm woolies

Here's a pair of 10 inch long (cuff and foot) fraternal twin socks I made for Warm Woolies. I used 335 yds of patons and knitpicks essentials held together. This was my first pair of socks done 2 at a time on one circular....but I had to make them fraternal cos I'm a very SLOW learner :D (the different colors was the only way I could figure it out)

2 new socks started= 3 singles now

I am knitting another pair of Kala's Sweetie Pie socks as well as Brenda's Winter Frost pattern to help my friend, Jonna with her sock knitting. She is fantastic with bobbin lace and helps me a lot. I now bring some socks in progress to the lace class for our coffee break/quick lesson. She's doing great and my long range goal is for her to knit a pair of Adrienne's Round Robyn's House soon. I dyed some cream Patonyle for these socks and I'm happy to say that Jonna wants to learn how to dye yarn for about 4 or 5 more pairs of socks. Lovely to have a partner in this obsession with knitting socks as well as be in a group with the designers of these lovely patterns.

Round 4

Round 4 of Sock Madness. The pattern was released at 7pm April 30th our time. Had to wait 3 hours for it to be released. That was a long 3 hours. I decided to use the oldest sock yarn I had. I purchased it on ebay before I knew what LYS were. Yes it is not pretty. But, if it did not get used soon I was going to have to kick it out of the house. Which may not have been a bad idea. But, I don't like to waste so..... Here is the start. Pattern is Lucky Diamond by Melissa Goodale.
I finished these May 1 so they will count for May. I never thought these socks would end. The seed/moss stitch seemed to go one forever. When I finished them I went to take the "finished picture" and I had left my camera on from the start picture. I had to recharge the battery before I could take a picture. Thank Goodness a 3 minute charge got me a picture. This is the shot for the contest.
They are not the prettiest socks I have ever seen. I did see a co worker of my hubby wearing a blouse that they match so may give them to her.

After I posted for Sock Madness I took out the cast off and redid the cuff longer. It was only 6 rows and curled.

Here is trying to make them pretty.

frogged... started...on my way!

I recently frogged the shawls that I was working on. Five pages in notes destroyed. I had the idea that lace knitting was not for me. Yesterday I found a simple lace pattern on the website of Wolhemel for a rectangular shawl. I started it and am now well on my way... more than the photo shows ;-) It is a project that I will finish for sure.

Whoo-Hoo!

I handed over the Mongol Horde hat to it's new owner today, hoping it would look as pictured in my head. With his permission, here it is, exactly the look I wanted for him! He and his wife are absolutely awesome people (she is a fellow EMT); I have some purple felted mittens on my list of things to knit for her.

New cast on projects for 52 week KAL

On May 1st, I cast on the May mystery sock pattern for the SKA Ravelry group, "kiila by Yarnissima" using Panda Soy in Poppy Red:
05.05.09 001

I also cast on another dishcloth:
04.29.09 010

Pattern is here.
