Baby Socks

I have a lot of leftover sock yarn, so I thought I'd use it up and get some Christmas knitting done at the same time. My niece is the same age as my son (4 months), so I knew I'd be able to check the size and fit on him.Hopefully she won't mind that they're blue. Her mommy should like it, though, because she's told me that she's sick of always dressing her in pink!
Pattern: My own cobbled version, casting on 36 stitches and working a short row heel
Yarn: Knitpicks Memories, about 100 yards total
Needles: 4 Circular needles US size 2

Baby Soft Cardigan Progress

I've got the back and both sleeves done on my Baby Soft Cardigan, I'm so thankful for this kal, it will definitely help to have some holiday projects done early this year!

progress report - ELF hat

Doesn't look like much does it? It will be stocking cap. For my niece. The pic does not do the colors well. It is a stocking cap that will have an "elf label" in it and will be left outside on Christmas morning for my six year old niece to find . . . assuming of course, that she will believe that one of Santa's elves left their hat.

By the way, my seven year old son is getting a similar one . . . I guess elves are going to losing hats all over the place this Christmas . . . fortunately, my sister and I live five hours apart.

The first week is gone and there's progress to report

Spending a few days in bed with a cold and the kittycats and some knitting is good.
I'm 30% done with the Henry scarf. I love this. The silk/baby alpaca yarn is gorgeous and soft and lovely, and the stitch pattern is just beautiful and interesting.

The Ribbed Pullover from VK Winter 06/07 is coming along as well. I'm 16 cm into the body knitting it in the round.
And I've realized that I have absolutely no clue when it come's to men's sizes. No clue. But it will probably fit. I think. And hope.

And suddenly all my plans for lovingly hand-knit Christmas presents seem utterly doable!

Almost forgotten

A progress photo of something I almost had forgotten. I am in a Christmas Stocking swap, and the send out date is in November. Time to hurry the thing up though so I can go back to my own knitting...LOL! But it sure looks funny to see the calf of the sock stand up at the table. The white yarn is Scottish Aran Wool, and the green is homespun Merino in the colour Olive. I have used 50-60 meter of the green, and now almost 1 ball (=90 meter) of the white. Totals will follow when the stocking is done.
Wolhemelblanket's KAL released the second block today... that is next on my list.

Another project...

I had a minor Myster Sock KAL setback, but here is another project I started yesterday--a Tudora neckwarmer using some leftover Malabrigo Silky.

and the winner is...

i will be bad and will not tell you who won the welcome prize drawing yet. as much as laura and i love yarn, we decided to withdraw ourselves from this drawing (and i really wanted to win too).

i am old-fashion. in my mind, the only way things are randomly drawn is to write all the names on slips of paper, fold them all evenly, put them all in some kind of container, shake well, and have someone draw a name.

here is the container.
(being mindful of the environment, i am reusing paper!)

i waited for an impartial person to come home from work. let him relax and eat dinner. then asked him to draw a name from the bottle.

what?! enough, already?! who's the winner?!

THE WINNER OF THE CAREFUL HOLIDAY (OR NOT) KAL
WELCOME DRAWING
WHO GETS A CHOICE OF ONE OF THE PRIZES LISTED ON THIS BLOG POST
IS:

are you all holding your breath?

i can be really bad when i want.

and the winner is...

MariaE

maria, please take a look and see which prize you want. of course, you will be required to post a picture of your winnings after you receive them so we can all drool over them (only joking, but i am sure everyone will want to see your prize yarn). i will be sending you an email later asking for your address so i can forward your choice and address to susan at crystal palace yarns. congratulations!

keep knitting and crocheting. we've got lots more prizes!!!!!!!!!!!

eta: did anyone notice the name i just gave this kal?! must be freudian! it's all about the frog pond! ugh!

another dishcloth progress photo

I started another dishcloth tonight! The yarn is Sugar 'n Cream in the color "Summerset". The pattern is here. I chose this pattern because it shows off variegated yarns well. I finished the Bee Stitch cloth, but I'll post them as group once I determine my yardage.

It's been awhile since I knit dishcloths, but they are fun little projects! Of course, the next step of the mystery sock pattern gets posted tonight so I'll be sock-knitting again soon!!

My felted bag progress

The beginning of bag #1

Three bags ready to felt

Small one is for gift cards

These all still need to be felted and the larger bags still need handles as well, and maybe a handle on the small one too, not sure yet. I will also need to find buttons for them too. Minor details, right?

I have never made an I cord before and I need to find out if you attach it to the bag before felting or after.

I made all three of these bags with one skein of Patons Classic Wool Merino in the color Rosewood. The skein is 223 yards and I hope to have enough left to make the handles as well. I do have another skein in case I run out though.

I started these bags yesterday afternoon, so they are a fast knit. I really like them. The pattern is called Teeny Tiny Felted Tote. I adjusted the pattern by cutting the directions in half to make the card holder.

While I am waiting to learn how to make the I-cord I think I'll work on a scarf for the special Olympics. I saw a couple patterns on Ravelry today I thought I'd like to try.

I'll post the finished pictures of these bags when I finally get them felted and blocked.

I am loving this group... I am getting a lot of Christmas knitting done.

Scarf

The start of my KAL. I am excited to be doing this and it is out of my my "comfort zone"/
Some people I know have pushed, nagged, smiled and all encouraged me to plunge in.
Thank you

Finished a bag

I finished up this bag today. It is a test knit.

if you are on Ravelry that is the link.

Wow, it took almost a full cone of Peaches & Cream cotton works out to 600 yards. It is kinda big it is hanging from my doorbell if that helps with scale. But, this makes 2 presents done and off my list. Still plugging away on my clogs. I am planning on a felting day where I do all my felted projects at one time.

my beginning

Well, it's slow, but started.

The photo is a picture included in the pattern and my tiny, but valiant start, LOL.

Progress photo

I started a dishcloth using the Bee Stitch cloth pattern. It's a fun and easy pattern to knit. Here's a progress photo:
According to Ravelry, there are 95 yards of yarn in Sugar 'n Cream print or ombre skein (there's more yardage in the solid colors), so I guess I'll wait and see how much of the skein this uses to determine my yardage.

I've never kept track of my yardage for a project before so this KAL will be a learning experience for me in that regard. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, I'm all ears!! I'm really wondering how I determine my yardage for my fair isle sweater project since I'll be using partial amounts of 5 different skeins.

Everyone's project photos so far are looking great! Keep up the good work!

My crafting...

I cast on for a Juju doll for the oldest girl on October 1st. That is just about finished now So today I will be casting on The Endpaper Mitts for my mom for Christmas. (I will finish casting on and then get a picture) I also have a hat for the BIL to cast on (I am thinking the Carlsbad Hat) While all that crafting is going on I will be crocheting Dishcloths and working on a shawl for grandma. Not to mention the sewing that I have to do... Excuse me, I think that I better get busy! heh

On the Needles

This is the Maizy Lace Sock Pattern from Crystal Palace Yarns Web Site, and I am using Knit Picks Dancing Yarn. I cast on with one circular needles, and as per picture below, changed to two circulars for the heel and foot sections. Despite the difference in color on these pictures this is the same sock and same yarn. My camera seems to pick up different colors depending on where I take the picture and the lighting.
This is the Maizy Lace Sock, now on two circulars and finished heel, now onto the foot section. The true color of this yarn is close the the colors shown in this photo, but a little more pink toned in real life. I really like the heel on this pattern, as it has garter stitch edging which I think looks nice.
This is a sock started for another group, it is actually the second sock started in October, as I frogged the first one and changed needle sizes for a better fit. The yarn is Sisu.

Finally starting something!

Actually, I was getting antsy and started a couple of "Malabrigo Loafers" cuz I just had to get going! But as far as projects starting after October 1, I started socks! And trust me, this was NOT in the game plan-only loafers, Calorimetries and Tudoras or Cowls! But, nevertheless, it was a good excuse to join Through the Loop's Mystery Sock KAL and to have hopes of getting a pair of socks done for a well-deserving friend!

The first cuff is finished through the first clue, only I think I'm going to frog it and go down from 72 to 68 stitches as well as reduce my needles from 1 to 0.

ETA: The yarn is Koigu PPPM (color P820 56) which I purchased long ago (one of my earlier sock yarn purchases when I first got hooked on socks!). And yes, Adrienne, the colorway is definitely 'you' and Nartian's palette than mine! So see? I do purchase colors outside of my palette-but usually as gifties for others! This had been purchased with my Nebraska friend in mind-sorry, not making it your way!-lol!

Emily Stitch Socks

Wow, you all are so fast! Can I be president of the pokey club, 'cause no way can I keep up, lol. I do have a pair of socks started in CPY Panda Wool, using both Periwinkle and Violets colorways and the Emily Stitch pattern from Melissa Morgan-Oakes "2 at a Time Socks".

Birthdya knitting and other stuff.

I posted in September, but not again recently. I finished one pair of socks on Oct. 2. This is the 3rd pair on the gift pile. They're for a SIL and I used every inch of the grey/brown yarn. This man has wide feet. Yarn is Grundl Hot Socks Cotton Stretch and the pattern is Harvest Cables by the Sock Guy. There were some problems with the larger size pattern, starting with a cast on that didn't fit the stitch pattern multiple.

I have one more pair of men's socks to knit for Christmas and a Christmas stocking also.

I've started some birthday socks. This yarn is Grundl Hot Socks Sockenwolle. The stitch pattern is from my new Japanese books. I also am knitting socks for a Granddaughter's birthday. Her favorite colors are red and black. The pattern will also be from a Japanese book. The red yarn is Regia 4 ply.

I also started a Ravelry mystery sock, which needed to be orange. The yarn was bought at the TKGA convention in Portland OR. in September. The yardage is short on this yarn, so I have a contrast toe. The orange yarn is Yarn Place Chaussant. The red is Oasis Yarns Aussi sock. The picture shows the sock sole, to better show the Chaussant yarn. This is a lot of socks at once for me!

I'm also knitting myself a sweater that I have wanted for years. I just recently got the yarn, Noro Silk Garden. The pattern is by Nancie Wiseman and is called Autumn Leaves. My colors don't fit the name. That's what's on my needles right now.
