The current sockknitters group has a couple of posts where they say that toe-up is about 50-50 in preference with top-down.
ok, so i'm biased, but i simply do NOT believe it. i'd say top-down predominates at about 75%, with a growth in toe-up.
anyway, i've made a poll here and on the CPYsocksandmore blog, so would love to hear what YOU think.

99% top-down here, although having just learned Colin Andersson's Mach II heel, the percentage will change depending on what non-sock yarn next dares me to make socks out of it anyway, lol.
I"m not much of a sock knitter, but when I am at either of my LYS's, just about everybody is making socks toe up. Now, this could be because of a recent classes, or it just could be a regional thing. I do know that many of the finished socks I've seen online have to be top down or the stitches would be going the other way (I knit sweaters top-down and notice these things).
have not had much luck with toe-up. All my successful socks are top-down. I still plant to try to get a good toe-up one just to compare.
