my beginning

Well, it's slow, but started.

The photo is a picture included in the pattern and my tiny, but valiant start, LOL.

Progress photo

I started a dishcloth using the Bee Stitch cloth pattern. It's a fun and easy pattern to knit. Here's a progress photo:
According to Ravelry, there are 95 yards of yarn in Sugar 'n Cream print or ombre skein (there's more yardage in the solid colors), so I guess I'll wait and see how much of the skein this uses to determine my yardage.

I've never kept track of my yardage for a project before so this KAL will be a learning experience for me in that regard. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, I'm all ears!! I'm really wondering how I determine my yardage for my fair isle sweater project since I'll be using partial amounts of 5 different skeins.

Everyone's project photos so far are looking great! Keep up the good work!

My crafting...

I cast on for a Juju doll for the oldest girl on October 1st. That is just about finished now So today I will be casting on The Endpaper Mitts for my mom for Christmas. (I will finish casting on and then get a picture) I also have a hat for the BIL to cast on (I am thinking the Carlsbad Hat) While all that crafting is going on I will be crocheting Dishcloths and working on a shawl for grandma. Not to mention the sewing that I have to do... Excuse me, I think that I better get busy! heh

Sandra (mintdee)

On the Needles

This is the Maizy Lace Sock Pattern from Crystal Palace Yarns Web Site, and I am using Knit Picks Dancing Yarn. I cast on with one circular needles, and as per picture below, changed to two circulars for the heel and foot sections. Despite the difference in color on these pictures this is the same sock and same yarn. My camera seems to pick up different colors depending on where I take the picture and the lighting.
This is the Maizy Lace Sock, now on two circulars and finished heel, now onto the foot section. The true color of this yarn is close the the colors shown in this photo, but a little more pink toned in real life. I really like the heel on this pattern, as it has garter stitch edging which I think looks nice.
This is a sock started for another group, it is actually the second sock started in October, as I frogged the first one and changed needle sizes for a better fit. The yarn is Sisu.

Finally starting something!

Actually, I was getting antsy and started a couple of "Malabrigo Loafers" cuz I just had to get going! But as far as projects starting after October 1, I started socks! And trust me, this was NOT in the game plan-only loafers, Calorimetries and Tudoras or Cowls! But, nevertheless, it was a good excuse to join Through the Loop's Mystery Sock KAL and to have hopes of getting a pair of socks done for a well-deserving friend!

The first cuff is finished through the first clue, only I think I'm going to frog it and go down from 72 to 68 stitches as well as reduce my needles from 1 to 0.

ETA: The yarn is Koigu PPPM (color P820 56) which I purchased long ago (one of my earlier sock yarn purchases when I first got hooked on socks!). And yes, Adrienne, the colorway is definitely 'you' and Nartian's palette than mine! So see? I do purchase colors outside of my palette-but usually as gifties for others! This had been purchased with my Nebraska friend in mind-sorry, not making it your way!-lol!

Emily Stitch Socks

Wow, you all are so fast! Can I be president of the pokey club, 'cause no way can I keep up, lol. I do have a pair of socks started in CPY Panda Wool, using both Periwinkle and Violets colorways and the Emily Stitch pattern from Melissa Morgan-Oakes "2 at a Time Socks".

Birthdya knitting and other stuff.

I posted in September, but not again recently. I finished one pair of socks on Oct. 2. This is the 3rd pair on the gift pile. They're for a SIL and I used every inch of the grey/brown yarn. This man has wide feet. Yarn is Grundl Hot Socks Cotton Stretch and the pattern is Harvest Cables by the Sock Guy. There were some problems with the larger size pattern, starting with a cast on that didn't fit the stitch pattern multiple.

I have one more pair of men's socks to knit for Christmas and a Christmas stocking also.

I've started some birthday socks. This yarn is Grundl Hot Socks Sockenwolle. The stitch pattern is from my new Japanese books. I also am knitting socks for a Granddaughter's birthday. Her favorite colors are red and black. The pattern will also be from a Japanese book. The red yarn is Regia 4 ply.

I also started a Ravelry mystery sock, which needed to be orange. The yarn was bought at the TKGA convention in Portland OR. in September. The yardage is short on this yarn, so I have a contrast toe. The orange yarn is Yarn Place Chaussant. The red is Oasis Yarns Aussi sock. The picture shows the sock sole, to better show the Chaussant yarn. This is a lot of socks at once for me!

I'm also knitting myself a sweater that I have wanted for years. I just recently got the yarn, Noro Silk Garden. The pattern is by Nancie Wiseman and is called Autumn Leaves. My colors don't fit the name. That's what's on my needles right now.

Thanksgiving sock

I started this Maizy Trail Mix sock yesterday and love the pattern. It is quite easy to follow while watching a mystery video. :)
Hungry for fall color living in southwestern Australia now and already thinking about our Thanksgiving celebration.

Finished and New

Completed pair of socks. Sorry can not show them yet as they are a test knit of a pattern that will not be released until after this is over. But, I did want to include them since I did knit them in the time period. I used one of my oldest yarns in my stash. Good ole Patons Kroy. I used 350 yards for these.
The start of 3 pair of slipper/clogs I will be making. Trying to get the Men's size 13 done first.

Let's get Christmas Knitting

Hi my name is Aunt Kathy or AK for short. I have been itching to get started on my Christmas knitting and was so excited when I read about this place on MariaE's blog. Couldn't wait to join and send over a few friends too.

Here are my first two entries for this challenge. Since dishcloths use less yardage I will post them in pairs to qualify. Yesterday I finished these two, a Christmas tree illusion cloth and grandmothers lace. I used Peaches and Creme Red and Green and Victorian Christmas colors.

I am not sure how many yards are in ounces of cotton, but I would guess 2 cloths is about 100 yards... does anyone know for sure?

I am making a list of other projects to make as well

I want to make a pirate doll,
some scarf and mitten sets, Cupcake, LadyBug scarf and mittens
some felted bags,
and of course more dishcloths. And that is just what I can think of as I sit here.

I am loving looking at all your projects too... such a talented group of people here.

OK back to the yarn and needles.

Fingerless Gloves finished

One progress photo from the Fingerless Gloves I was working on in Panda Soy Stained Glass. They came ready today, and Alexa took the pictures that were taken when I tried the Fingerless Gloves on. They feel wonderful.

I measured the yarn that was left: from the 171 meter on one skein I had 38 meter left.

Hi all!

Hi all. My name is Shelly. I've been known since my first email addy as Kadezmom. For some stroke of (un)genius, I decided to try out a new name on Ravelry. I'm Momohair there. Bad joke. Bad Name. Will have it forever on Ravelry! I'm from Mn, and as the cold weather is quickly moving in, my needles are flying...trying to knit up holiday gifts, birthday gifts and stuff to keep my family warm. Naturally, this is all a self-imposed job. Good thing I love it! Yep, I'm about a 95% stay at home mom. I've gotta cram all I can in the next few years because they are growing up too fast.

Enough of the babble.

This is my hubby's hat. I started it a couple of days ago and finished it up during the Mizzou/Nebraska game. Due to the amount of arguments over calls, I might have another project done by the end of this game!!

Have a great weekend

update

In this post I posted a photo with two started projects. The small one on the right with the bamboo needles was the cuff of the fingerless mitten that I started. At the moment, one is finished and the second one is half way done and will be finished tonight. It is done in Panda Soy Stained Glass.

To be honest, I enjoy knitting with this yarn. I do like the touch of it, but you are really surprised when you wear one on your hands... the soft touch and warmth it is spreading...it sure makes me happy.

And... for one pair of fingerless mittens, I need just one skein.

Will post photos when done tomorrow, together with the yardage.

Project list

I wasn't sure what I was going to knit for this KAL, but on October 1st I found out about a Mystery Sock KAL on Ravelry that sounded like so much fun, I immediately cast on with some Fuchsia Panda Cotton. The first week of instructions were for the cuff. I knit the first cuff, put it on stitch holders and am almost done with the 2nd cuff:
I also made a list of other projects I'd like to try to accomplish during this KAL:

1. Dishcloths - I thought these would be quick worsted weight projects for when I need a break from socks. I have a stash of dishcloth cotton and they always make good Christmas gifts for my Mom (she loves knit dishcloths) and others. I also have quite a few dishcloth patterns I've been wanting to try.

2. Fair isle vest - The pattern is from the fall 2007 issue of Knit Simple magazine. I bought the yarn and ordered the circular needles I need. This will be my first big fair isle project and I'm very excited!

3. I have a pattern for Sampler socks using some Sockina Cotton I have in the stash.

4. A simple black garter stitch triangle shawl for my mom (also by request). ;-)

1 sock completed, other started

I've been knitting frantically on these socks. It's part of the Yarn Smackdown contest, in which I'm trying to beat out my opponent. This will be my second kill once I get these socks done. I just started them Wednesday afternoon, and I'm flying (which helps when it's an easy pattern). The pattern is provided by the contest director, and the yarn I'm using is Berroco Comfort Sox in White. What a dream to knit with.

Plain Jane Sock

I'm excited that I found this group (with a little help from my favorite enabler). I'm sure there will be a lot of inspiration here!

I CO for this sock on October 1. I'm calling it my "Plain Jane Sock", knitting it on 12" circs and figuring it out as I go. The yarn is Patons Stretch Socks in Bonbon Caramel. If this turns out okay, I just may make another one to match :)

Progress on Cluster Hooded Scarf

Here is a start for a hooded scarf. I still have not made up my mind on who is going to get it as a gift. I am thinking either my aunt or grandmother.
I am using Red Heart Super Saver yarn for this project, it will probably be about 400-500 yards when this project is done.

My Progress

Well I have started my Comfort Socks and then decided to cast on socks for my younger grandchild, but not liking the feel of the yarn. I am using LionBrand Magic Stripes and it is very coarse, but my granddaughter wants me to use this yarn. I'll keep knitting, but if she decides she doesnt like them, then I will use the yarn for doll clothes.

My Oct 1 starts

Here is a pair of socks that have been started. Kroy sock yarn that I have had for many years.

I am planning to use yarn that I already have for as many projects as I can. Since Adrienne has a rule on how long you must have the yarn before it is stash I will go with the wording Yarn I owned before Oct 1st.

This is a Market bag I have started.

First Holiday Project!

OK! I am knitting a pair of Tesserae socks in Sanguine Gryphon Eidos sock yarn in a gray green color. It's wonderful yarn. The pattern takes 350-500 yards, and the skein of yarn is 400 yards. I make regular size socks, so I'm sure I'll have enough. Here is a picture of my 1/2 done first sock:
I 've made somewhat of a list of other things I plan to make, like wristwarmers, cowls, scarves and such. Probably more socks!

found the time to post

Hi, Started and finished a teddy bear scarf and wristlets for a bear swap and a hat for a friend I had to bonzai out for a gift tonight. Wow, I love knitting in the round it is so quick. The yardage for the bear items will be tallied when I finish a hat for my son. I used Plymouth Encore worsted weight and size 8 needles. The hat was Luxor's "Party" in a wool blend. I used 122 yards of the fantastic purple/blue mix to go with almost anything Jill wears.

On we go to wrist warmers, socks, and hats because fall has come to the Oregon's Yamhill County. Nathan again, sorry wrong jpg file will send finished hat picture on the next post.
Blessings and Knit on,
Jody

Yeah.... I started the Carefree Holiday-or not-KAL

At first I had to get the 6 riddles and then in the evening I could start the DaVinci-shawl.... the little (very little) beginning is here:

I also started Giselle:

And today I also started the "Herbstliche Waldsocken"

webkins stuff

I started my blanket for my Webkin's penguin Fluffy and Cavie the black bear. My brother needs to in it too.

off to a great start

Hello!

Hi All,
I am excited to join this group to have some camaraderie. I started my first pair of house socks yesterday-- more like anklets because my dad doesn't believe in heat in the house until November. :-) Worsted weight wool on size 6's. I'm not sure if I'll continue sock knitting, I don't know if I have a passion for it.

I have a pair of mittens I've like to try-- and maybe a pair of fingerless gloves. The Lady's duet from KNITSCENE for the singing teacher. Pictures soon. (They say if you write things down they happen.)

Nice to meet you.

Images

I placed my finished block under the scanner this morning. My photo camera was occupied elsewhere, as my son needed it today for a school project.

The second image is a detail of the block - and now I have to block the first block. Gee...I love wordgames.:-) Groninger Blanket block 1: Used: Cascade 220 Superwash in red; 110 yards for this block.Next week on Wednesday the second block will be posted. Can't wait!

First hat done

This is the first crochet hat.
Lion Wool worsted 158yds/85g, hook H.
Used 83g for hat=154yds
It's amazing how artificial light, especially at night, changes yarn color. This yarn is actually dark purple (color 147).
Tomorrow will be chilly enough for wearing the hat.

Start...

October first - a very rainy day in our country. I started early this morning with the cuff of a fingerless mitten, in Panda Soy Stained Glass. Later this morning the Yahoo group Wolhemelblanket released block 1 of the Groninger KAL Blanket. I have been working on that one this evening, and am almost done with this block. I am using Cascade 220 Superwash for it; in red. It was a gift of Candace in the summer. The blocks will be given out on a weekly basis.

The photo is taken a few minutes ago, I will make a better one tomorrow morning, by daylight.

So my current projects:
Fingerless Mittens in CPY Panda Soy, using DPN US #1 and #2
Groninger Blanket in Cascade 220.
Planned: A sweater in ONline Riesenknauel.

Edited to add: The first block is finished now. I used 110 yards for it.

Alternative to Bows

I have been busy working on finishing my bachelor's degree that unfortunately knitting/crocheting has been a low priority.
I have been working on making miniature socks to put on Christmas presents instead of bows. These socks are crocheted, but I am also working on a knitted sock.
I also started working on a hooded scarf that I plan to give as a Christmas present. I haven't decided on who I am going to give it to yet.

Holiday Stockings

I am doing Holiday Stockings for my 2 DGSs. The pattern is WM1049 Knit Christmas Stocking designed by Allison Snopek Barta from the Coats & Clark website free patterns.
Each stocking will be a bit different so as to be personalized for each GS. I am using Lion Brand WoolEase worsted, so they can be washed.
Cast on for #1 today.
drMolly, the BeanQueen
My first project is going to knit socks for my granddaughter from Knitting Socks book. I am using Comfort Socks yarn and it is so soft. I plan on making socks for my younger grandchild next using Comfort Socks yarn in white. Then my plan is to complete the following:

Olympic Scarf
Ponchos for my granddaughters
Numerous Dishcloths
Hat and scarf for my friends daughter

I think that's a good start...Now I must get busy!!

Started

My first item is a crochet hat from the book "From Needles to Hook." I got the book many years ago when I thought knitting from patterns was too hard. I've made this hat before in wool for my middle child. So now I am making one for each of the other two and then on to some knitting.

Lion Wool, worsted: 158yds/3oz (144m/85g)
size H/8-5.00mm crochet hook

about halfway through first ball

Baby Soft Cardigan

I haven't started yet, but I plan to knit the Baby Soft Cardigan from the Knitters Book of Yarn using some organic cotton I have in my stash for this kal. I hope to start swatching today, I think I'm going to use brown for the body with brown and pink stripes for the sleeves. This will be a Christmas present for my niece who will be about 6 months old in December.

ready, set....

GO!

it's been october 1st somewhere in our world for almost a day now! has anyone started?

i am still clueless but i am thinking i want to try making a pair of mitered windowpane socks. i will be selfish and will be making them as a gift to ME! me! mE! they look like they will be fun to knit.

i do have plans on making a herminone knit cap for niece, socks for dh and for dbil, maybe knit caps for my nephews, and a couple of scarves, just for heck. i doubt that i will finish all of these. i never do.

just a reminder that you have to be signed up by midnight (somewhere in the world) tonight to qualify for the welcome drawing. of course, you're welcome to join later as long as there is still room.

Newbie

Must make myself a list of what I want to make for this KAL - I know I want to make a beanie and fingerless gloves, a scarf or two - so that's a start. Looking forward to keeping up with this group.

New here and making plans

Hi! I just joined and am looking forward to getting several Christmas gifts done--and a pair of socks for me. I have two hats (fun slip stitch in 3 colors) to finish so I can cast on for my Spider Web socks on Oct. 1. They will be black Cherrytree Hill with beaded spider and web, but I haven't found the right beads yet. Then I need to do socks for the men in my life--husband, son, sons-in-law and brother in law in Artyarns Ultramarino in the colors of their favorite football teams. That will make the New Years Day games more interesting, since they don't all cheer for the same teams.

My knitting and crochet ambitions

Last week I made a small list of my knitting and crochet ambitions. At least 7 WIPs. I know there are more and some are becoming UFO's, or maybe soon piles of crinkly yarn ? :) For my list of new projects, I came up with at least 10, including 3 shawl KALs. There are just too many patterns out there tugging at my heart. LOL

So, for this KAL my plan is: two crochet hats for my daughters, Laughing Carrots sweater for my son, and as many socks as I can manage.

Intro Post - Spudd

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I should write a little intro. :) I'm Spudd on Ravelry. I'm definitely planning some baby things to be knit for this KAL, because my sister-in-law is expecting twins, due in February. Unfortunately I am in the midst of a sweater right now, so my output for the KAL may not be too high, since I really, really want this sweater (Forestry, from Fall '08 Vogue Knitting).

I look forward to seeing what everyone will be knitting!

Hello!

Thank you so much for letting me join you!
I am an Art History student working nearly full time with an asset management company here in Copenhagen. This leaves far too little time for knitting, so I really need to get started on the Christmas presents now. I don't have any family, but it's such a joy to me that there's an increasingly longer list of people (and cats) to knit for.

On the list:
1: Scarf for J. I have decided on Henry from Knitty using a lovely silk/baby alpaca blend in black. 800 meters, close to 80.000 stitches. I hope he'll appreciate it.
2: Sweater for J. I have a lovely organic and fair trade cotton and have cast my eyes on a VK pattern, but the name escapes me. This is actually a very belated birthday sweater, which I started thinking about in July, but have not yet cast on for.
3: Hemlock Ring Blanket for lovely friend and colleague C. I have yet to find the right yarn.
4: Sweater for Siamese wondercat Laurenz.
5: Sweater for Oriental wondercat Vincent.
I've been threatening to knit them sweaters for ages. And what do you give a cat who has all the toy mice he could possible ask for?
6: Sweater for JM. He's nearly 3 and will get the sweater with cats on it from Norsk Strikkedesign. He loves cats. He really loves cats!
7: Fetching fingerless gloves for JM's mother M.
8: Christmas stocking for L.
9: Christmas stocking for W.

Oh my, I'm going to get busy.

Halloween Knitting

I found Isela Phelps' Candy Corn Bag pattern on Ravelry today and decided I really need to make bags for my niece and nephew. The pattern calls for Lamb's Pride Bulky and to felt it, but my stash hasn't got feltable wool in the appropriate colors so I'll be using some worsted weight acrylic (doubled) and modifying the pattern to suit the gauge I'll be achieving. I can't wait to get started on October first!

As soon as I finish up the bags, I really should start the sweaters I'm knitting them for this winter! I'm using the Cricket Pullover pattern over at Umme Yusuf's blog. Fortunately the niece and nephew are 5 and 3 years old, respectively, so this is actually doable with the knitting time I have!

My Holiday List

I'm getting really excited about knitting for the holidays, so here's my list:
1.) Dumpling Bags: very cute felted round bag (Interweave Knits, Fall 2008) I'm planning on making 2 for the girls at work to use as gift bags for their gifts.

2.) Felted Pears: (Holiday Interweave Knits Gifts, Holiday 2006) I'm making a few for my mom, since she loves decorating with fruit.

3.) A scarf- still deciding on the pattern, will be for my mom

4.) Bunny stuffed animal: (from a book: Knitted Toys by Zoe Mellor). For my little cousin who just turned 2 earlier this month, she loves bunnies.

5.) Puppy stuffed animal: (from a book: Knitted Toys by Zoe Mellor). A request from a co-worker for her granddaughter, since I have made quite a few of these for baby showers. Very adorable.

6.) Classic Teddy Bear: fully jointed teddy bear for myself to add to my teddy bear collection. (Interweave Knits, Holiday Gifts 2007)

7.) Peppermint Twist knit Socks: (Today's Creative Home Arts Magazine, September/October 2008) These will be for my sister

It seems like a long list to get done in a short period of time, but a lot of them are quick knits. I'm hoping to get them all done, plus some. See you all on Oct. 1st with speeding needles to get projects done.

Is it ok to be a little bit selfish?

as I am planning two projects for the KAL...
1 is a sweater for me, as I really need a few. I bought a really big ball of yarn (500 grams/1650 meters and that should be enough for a sweater in my size. (in yards: 1888.4)

2 is a set of wrist warmers in Panda Wool/Panda Soy. The idea is already in my mind...

And after all the knitting done for my kiddies recently, I thought it would be nice to knit for me this time ;-)

OlympicSox prize

My OlympicSox prize arrived on Saturday! 2 pretty skeins of red Panda Soy.

I can't wait to try this yarn!! I still haven't decided what I want to knit during this KAL, but I'm sure it will be fun.

Also, many thanks to Steph G. for the KAL button! It looks great and I've already added it to my blog.

button, BUTTON, we got a

...BUTTON!!

thank you, steph g. this is the first time i have ever been able to get a button posted on a blog. of course, this may be the ONLY time i will ever get a button posted on a blog. remember to save the image to your own computer.

if you are using blogger, the trick is to:
  • "add a gadget"
  • "add HTML/JavaScript"
  • copy and paste this code to the big blank space: blogger will not let me show you what to copy and paste as it is html code and it makes blogger get confused.
i will try to figure out a way to post it so blogger does not think it is code. but that will be later

if you don't understand this, don't contact me because i don't have a clue.

i love you, steph g. you are my hero. now to see if i can get this dang thing up on my own blog.

Howdy!

Howdy! I'm Steph G from Ohio and I just joined in this afternoon (Thanks Adrienne! *grin*); this is going to be such fun! :) I have a few ideas that I'm tossing around for my projects...I still have a few days to scheme and plot! LOL I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's projects and maybe making a few new knit pals. :)

Yarn Holiday

I just got my Crystal Palace Panda Soy yarn today in the mail, from the Olympic Sox contest. Yea. It feels like a yarn holiday. I received 2 skeins of velvet blue. Very pretty, just the perfect color to go with jeans. I'm thinking they will go towards socks, or a pretty scarf. Thanks again, crystal palace for donating the wonderful yarn. Your yarn is absolutely to die for, especially when used in socks.

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Yeah! Yarn!

I just received 2 balls of Panda Soy from the Olympic Sox contest. A very pretty Cocoa Mint and a wonderful 270 yards! Whee. What to do? I can not wait. My daughter picked up the package and wants it bad. But that is not going to happen yet! She is only 7 but to her credit she can cast-on, knit and purl. She will be passing me up soon for sure.
Thanks Dr. Laura and CPY!!!!!
