Clogs are us....

Here are 13 of the 20 pairs I made in 2 weeks. Yes I did get a few felted. All are Fiber Trends pattern.
First time every making the child size clogs. I am looking forward to seeing them felt up. They are the light pink ones in the middle.
Otherwise these are Christmas gifts. I can not even post about them on my own blog.
Just as I was working on the 19th pair my daughter told me her clogs had worn a hole in them. Guess I am not done clogging yet.

As we know there has to be a start picture.....this one above was started Oct 2, well finished Oct 2 also. Below, I used leftovers from the other clogs to make the inside sole on this pair. These are the bright pink pair in the photo above.

52 Week Challenge- my knitting last month

This is a project for September that I wanted to finish by summer and now it is finished, but summer is gone. A long and loose fitting sweater out of cotton in a rich shade of red, not pink as the picture shows.

There is no decrease in stitch count, only taking the pattern itself to shape the garment. As in ganseys I put my initials on it. Now I can´t get lost :-).

Here is a new scarf for the upcoming stormy weather. It is a big one, 50cm x 2m, not yet actually, only half way through it, made of two cakes of yarn with long colour runs.

The new project for October is a long jacket. First, as always, I did a sleeve and now am knitting the collar and band. Yarn is of camel and alpaca and merino.

Then there are socks. I needed a new pair for me and used my Bergtrikot design.

My plan for the Holiday KAL

OK, Adrienne asked for our lists, so here's mine:

1. a Prayer Shawl for my friend who has been having a rough time lately. I chose this yarn in a color I think she'll like, and I think she'll appreciate that I knit this for her:

That is my number 1 goal for this KAL because I'm not always good at sticking with large projects and this should give me motivation to finish it!

2. I'd like to knit a pair of socks for my Dad for Christmas. I haven't decided on yarn or a pattern yet, but something in worsted weight most likely because that's what he prefers. He sleeps in them.

3. I want to attempt the Solid Socks mystery sock pattern using my red Panda Cotton. This looks like a very challenging pattern already and we're just on the first clue!! But I'm posting it here, again, to motivate myself to try it:


I'm also doing another mystery sock that I plan on being my November finished project. I'll post on that later!

52 week KAL October socks

Love this pattern by Lorraine Ehrlinger: Bamboo socks. I used almost all of the 100 gm (437 yds) skein of Cascade Heritage (had 3 gms left). Color is closest to the finished pair on the table. The pattern says Men's medium, but fit Fred perfectly and I usually knit a Large size. I will make more of these for him at his request. :)

So, do you have a list?

debi thought it would be fun to post a list of your objectives and then to see how many you actually finish by the end of the kal.

i don't have a list myself. i figure that if i finish anything at all, that will be gift enough for me! :)

so, who wants to start?

i should tell you that debi has been on a clog kick and has knit like 300 million pairs of clogs in the past two weeks (actually i think she said 18 pairs). so if any of you are thinking of gifting clogs, you might just be able to sneak that onto her list ... she probably won't notice that extra 20 pairs.

carefree holiday (or not) kal

will officially start monday, october 5th.

we are still deciding the rules but they will be fairly relaxed and easy.

you will get to knit whatever your heart desires; whether it be for a gift OR NOT! so knitting for yourself will count too. we might even allow ufos! see how easy?

i will be thinning out the ranks of our members after the mystery sock kal is finished. if you haven't posted finished mystery socks, i will be removing you from the blog unless you leave a comment on this post or email me at carefreekal at gmail dot com that you want to participate in the holiday kal. i have started a list over on the sidebar.

Mystery Sock

I didn't quite finish in time but these beautiful mystery socks are high priority so they will be finished soon! I love the Dream in Color Smooshy yarn in Beach Fog with the pattern. 52 week challenge - cathy

I just realized that I had not yet posted a cast on post here for one of my 52 week challenge projects!



I am knitting the Sept. 09 SKA group mystery sock designed by Nancy Bush. It was a great pattern and I am almost done with the pair. I'll be posting them as my October finished project soon. I hope to finish up the second sock this weekend!

Mystery Sock KAL (at last!)

I finally finished my sock. Love the pattern. I should have done 70 sts on the leg and decreased to 60 for the foot as it is a little tight on the calves.

I did the bit of fancy heel and the fancy instep and toe. It ended just before my toes perfectly. I used Araucania Ranco Solid yarn in Caribbean as I couldn't find anywhere that sold CPY around here. Pretty nice yarn, but not alot of stretch which may be my problem in the calf.

Cynthia's Mystery done

It was a dark and stormy day ... Not very good pictures, but the socks are done! I will wear them with my clogs tomorrow to work. Woo hoo! What a great pattern. I used DGB Confetti Superwash in some unknown blue color. (I lost the band.) The beads are from JoAnn's and are supposedly size 6 clear beads, with an iridescent crystal finish. I used two beads per motif on the leg.

I just finished my socks and submitted them for Charms homework in the Ravelry Harry Potter Knit and Crochet House Cup group. Here's a copy of the note to the professor.

Dear Professor Cattiekins,

I am handing in my homework, but I had some trouble with it. I did figure out what I did wrong and I hope that helps. Let me explain.

I was practicing the aguamenti charm as assigned. I made a small fire beside the lake and prepared myself mentally by standing in the water so that my feet and ankles were immersed. I thought this would help me to focus on water and make the charm easier. My intent was to use it to put out the fire.

I flourished my wand and said the charm and nothing seemed to happen, although my toes felt odd. I did it a second time and still no result other than an odd sensation on my feet. A third try extended the odd sensation to my ankles, but no stream of water was produced. I tried to step out of the lake, and to my dismay, realized that lake mint had grown around my feet and ankles. When I tugged my feet loose the twining plant had formed socks around both feet!

I saved them to show you and I believe my error was in pronunciation. I must have said “Agua-minty” instead of “Agua-menti” I’m sure I will do better next time.

What a great pattern this is! It was a very fun knit, no boredom in this one!

I finished them and I love this pattern. It was fun to knit up.

I used yarn that I had in my stash. I didn't use Sock Summit stash I'm still fondling it.

The yarn is hazel knits artisan sock in Sanguine Peach. I like how the pattern looks in this colorway. I did the Just a Bit Fancy on the heel flap and took the instep pattern down to almost the toe and started the fancy toe. I wish I had started to toe decreases earlier but I like how they turned out. That you, Adrienne for a great pattern can't wait for the next one.

Sarah's Mystery Socks

I knit these out of ShiBui yarn (SockC anime) on Addi 1 circular needles doing two socks on two circulars. I ended up changing the toe design (still not sure I'm totally liking it) and using the plain heel. I also knit with 70 stitches to begin for the leg, but decided to switch to 60 stitches for the foot. If I do it again I'll be using 60 stitches for both. I have size 9.5 women's feet, but they are narrow.

Thanks for creating the design. I enjoyed the design even if I had to take them off my needles twice to work as a test knitter on another sock pattern.

i was sick

they told me to go to a doctor weeks and weeks ago, but did i listen ? no. am i so sick, coughing like i have hairballs the size of grizzly bears, that i can not finish my mystery sock, let alone anything else ? you betcha.
at least i can see everyone else's gorgeous socks and i know what i'm doing when i get well...as long as i can squeeze it in beside our next KAL.

Yarn Used for Socks

I forgot to post the yarn that I used when I posted my photos. I used ShibuiKnits Sock. I loved the way that it knit up, but for some reason I used almost every single inch. I think I had about 6 inches left of each skein when I finished the socks, and that is definitely too close for comfort. If I use this yarn again I will definitely buy an extra skein.

I did finish the second baby blanket. I so love this pattern and how it works up into these blankets. This photo even though taken outside the shade surprised me on how dark it showed up. But the colors are so true.

mystery sock and 52-week September update.

Hi, well I am soo behind! But, knitting hard! Here is the first sock for the KAL. I used Happy Feet on 2.25mm square needles. I love this pattern but I scream around row 7 to 10 of the leg pattern. I keep making it harder than it is (rather than trusting the pattern.) I thought the second was going to be the same but I am fighting this part. It will clear up in another few rows. Plus, I tried to knit at church today, WRONG thing to do. The President of Compassion Intl. spoke today and I cried all over my sock to speed the blocking process. But, I need to rip a row because I was not paying attention to what I was doing! I hope you all have a great day!

My sock is more of the correct color in the picture with my big calves (or one calf!)

52 week challenge for September

I finished "Gabriel's Wings" for my September 52 week challenge. I used two skeins of Knitpicks Risata sock yarn @196 yards each, and about the same amount of various patterned sock yarn, so my guess is about 700-800 yards altogether. I added a crochet border around the edges. Love how it came out!

I'm several days behind the front knitters.....

...but I am finished. The sock on the left is what I did when it did not occur to me that Adrienne is a genius. I know, I could (should?) have taken it to the frog pond, BUT every time I wear these socks, I will remember that over thinking things is not always the best solution. Don't worry, Adrienne, I'm not putting them up like this on Ravelry....I have a different shot for that.

Thanks for hosting such a fun and beautiful kal. I'm sure I'll be knitting these socks again in more colors.

I used Maizy in an old color called tan suede.

belated knit items to show you

these are in Mochi-+, a long gauntlet wrister, about 3/4 up arm [want to do a longer one] and a matching hat .
used the rainbow colorway for the hat and gauntlet.
LOL, any guesses on which came first, hat or gauntlet?

here's a 2nd hat, using two colorways - babyface and jungle. it's gauntlet is next and will go up to elbow i think.

wow! 10 pairs of socks finished so far! and i LOVE them all. of course, i may be a bit partial here, just saying.

who else is working on these? would love to see at least 20 more pairs posted by the end of the month. (or is that wishful thinking on my part? come on! you can do it!!!!!!) remember, the more pairs finished, the more prizes there will be!

3rd toe is the charm for mystery sock and September project

I frogged the previous toe(s) and Adrienne sent me star toe directions and NOW the socks fit me perfectly. I was swimming in them before. Next I will knit a pair with the correct length of the instep 4 row pattern. Even spending most of the time at the frog pond, I have still enjoyed knitting this lovely sock. I used Maizy by CPY in the "sea gray" color which is a light teal and lovely in person.
Great experience doing this mystery sock and I'm enjoying looking at all the finished projects using different yarns and colors.
When do we get to play again? :)

Mystery Socks!

Here's my pair of Mystery Socks! The yarn is Lion Brand LB 1878 in Claret, which I over-dyed with blue food coloring because I was tired of the original color. These have the plain heel and and the fancy instep.

Thanks for the great pattern! A KAL ended up being the motivation I needed to actually finish a pair of socks.

52-week september and mystery sock!

Hi, had to stop on the socks and do a dishcloth and scrubbie for my MIL's birthday. I used tulle cut into 1 inch strips and Peaches and Creme. The tulle is kind of rough to work with but after you use these for the first time you will be hooked and need to make your own for you. I know it is crochet but I have not found a pattern for a circle in knitting that I like (any ideas?) After both circles are done they are put together. My MIL loves them and they clean all of our pots without damaging them (plus they are machine washable.) I no longer buy sponges but make my own! So much cheaper and cuter too. Super fast project I will probably finish them in a day or so. I will add the yardage on the finished project. Then, back to the socks and a dishcloth set for my Aunt Judy who is moving soon.

Socks

I started these after frogging the first clue of the Mystery socks. Why, I don't know, but this pair had to become a pair of prayer socks. (Secret Prayer Sock Swap) The design is made by me and beside praying for my partner I also found comfort when I picked my knitting back up after the sudden passing of my pappa. A special pair they are...

I used CPY Panda Superwash Evening Blues (2 balls) and 350 meters in yardage went into this pair. Enough to make this count as my September project.

Okay, I'm still working on the mystery kal, but I do have a fo for September. This yarn is from the Sock Yarn Cinema Club, and I'm finally done with that pair of socks. (we're not going to discuss the # of wips I have, are we?)

As usual, my pictures don't match color wise. The first one was in the middle of the night when I got the *great* idea of taking a pic of the sock in progress with the part of the movie that inspired the yarn. Yep, I'm hopeless. The other one I took this evening on my daughter's feet. I used about 390 yards of yarn. It was a fun knit and kept me company for a few swim meets. Now it's time to make progress on what I'm calling Maizy's Mystery.

Two! Two mystery socks that don't fit! Ah ah ah!

Well I finished my mystery socks! They are too big, but since they are my first pair of socks, I forgive them. I think I will run some elastic through the cuff to help hold them up.

One is being (poorly) blocked on my ghetto hanger blocker, and the other is dry already. I'll probably pull the wet one in to shape more as it dries.

I used Knit Picks palette, and the colorway is "Orange". Real original, I know, but it works! The beads are size 6/0 Dyna-mites, square holed, silver lined, orange rainbow.
